Marc,
With your knowledge and expertise of the European market, I think the Lexus RX 300 if made by Masterpiece or Ricko would sell very well in both the US and Europe. We're not talking about medium quality manufacturers, just 2 of the best in HO right now. Chances are, this particular model would be high quality and collectors would be buying quite a few of them. If you think that a Lexus makes sense at this time then I hope manufacturers reading this think it's time to go for it in HO. I know a few model railroaders who would be willing to buy a Lexus too!

What an interesting and enlightening thread this has been. I'm in agreement with most people who seem to think that a Japanese vehicle will sell and in much disagreement with naysayers who think that any Japanese vehicle wouldn't sell. This especially includes Ricko.
Mark Maticek's last statement is an excellent one (reply #137). Fiat Punto? I'm 100% Italian and I never considered buying that car! Some cars astound me when they make it to HO scale and I wonder how they sell. I will say this: I want something different, something new to add to my collection and the layout. A vehicle that appeared on US streets at some point in time is a must. The more common the vehicle, the better. Right now, what do you see on the streets of America? That's right, Japanese vehicles everywhere. And they are not commodities, just everyday, practical cars that people KEEP, not throw away. My wife has a 1997 Honda Civic with 140,000 miles on it and there are no plans to throw it away.
Ricko, it's a shame that you will have to follow in this case, and not lead. I would be willing to buy quite a few Lexus, Mazdas, Hondas, etc. to help out your cause. Whatever makes a fairly decent business case for Europe and the US I would try. Once again, check Marc's list, it's pretty good. And oh, I totally disagree with your marketing people, who says they're 100% correct? Maybe Masterpiece will be that company to do something from a list of vehicles that has appeal to both markets.
Another thing, I'm done buying Mercedes Benz, BMW, Porsche or even Audi in plastic. Diecast, yes, because it's cheap here at Walmart. I will spend 16.00 for a beautifully done Lexus in HO; who wants to be first?

Mr. Ricko,
Go back to Marc Schmidt's list, anything from there is very good to me. I think you really should think about doing a Lexus because luxury vehicles seem to do well in HO. Of course, you would also be the first manufacturer to make a Lexus in HO if you should agree to it.
I would love common, boring sedans such as the Accord, Camry, and Altima but I know that my best shot is with Motormax.

Mr. Ricko,
Thanks for rejuvenating the US market because your models were worth every penny. You helped to make 2007 an excellent year for modern American vehicles. I'm looking forward to next year too.

Marc S. has a good list over there; I like all of the vehicles on that list with the Toyota 2000 GT being my least favorite. My personal favorite would be the Lexus RX 300 followed by the Nissan Murano. I would still buy 1 Toyota 2000 GT as opposed to 10 each of the Lexus and Nissan models if multiple colors were offered.
The list is very good because in order to have succesful sales of HO Japanese vehicles both markets have to be included in my opinion. Therefore it makes sense to include vehicles that are sold in Europe and the US. I would love to have common Japanese sedans, but I think Motormax might be the one to do that if they have good sales of the '82 Honda Accord.

Mark,
Thanks for that link, I never saw that car before! I'll buy one from Ricko. Mr. Ricko, have any ideas for something modern?

Guys,
Was the Toyota 2000 GT sold in the US? I don't seem to reall it, obviously it's a little older than I think. Can somebody post a photo of the real car? I'm all for it if it looks good!
I like Mark's idea for a model that Mr. Ricko would like for a contemporary model. Subaru, Mazda, Honda, Lexus, etc., they all work for me! My personal favorite: Honda Civic, any year from 1995-2007.

Everybody has good opinions and thoughts on this forum and that's why I appreciate it so much. Many good points were made, but I think it would be good to have Japanese vehicles made from all different types such as sedans, SUV's, and coupes. As far as eras are concerned, I would like to see vehicles from the 1980-2007 period.
Once again, I will buy any quality Japanese vehicle from Ricko as long as it was sold in the US. I'm not a true collector, but I will buy most vehicles that were sold in the US. Yes, it's time for some Japanese vehicles.
Mr. Ricko, one more thing. I know that some on this board don't like plain sedans but top sellers like the Accord, Camry, and Altima could really surprise you with sales! Consider this, they are everywhere you look in the US, therefore I will buy many and put quite a few on my train layout in parking lots and streets.

Mr Ricko,
Even though I'm enjoying all of the modern American vehicles out or coming out, I would buy just as many modern Japanese vehicles as well. Let's face it, about half, if not more of the new cars sold in the US are Japanese right now. Try to find out who is easiest to work with as far as licensing, then go from there. I personally would love to see any Lexus, Nissan, or Honda. My wife drives a 1997 Honda Civic and man would I love to see that in HO! I'll go on record saying this: If any Civic from 1995-2007 gets released by Ricko in 5 colors I'll buy 4 of each color. That's how much I want that car! Of course the 1997 version would be a plus!
Actually, I'll buy any quality modern Japanese vehicle simply because it's an untapped market when you consider mainstream sedans, SUV's, or pickups.
If a survey is allowed on this forum I'm all for it!

JanS,
Do you know how much the Holland-Oto Coach USA buses are in US dollars? That is a model that I had hoped for and I have found it! Thanks for the photos, they looked really sharp! If they're reasonable, I'll have to order these! Maybe BHOH has these from California?

There is no doubt that the Malibu line is getting stale lately, with no new tooling for a long time. It will be interesting to see just how long Walmart will continue with this line.

The Malibu line is in need of some freshening and it's time to get the first release of the Reel Rides in different colors in Walmart! I know some, not all of the Reel Rides will be in different colors but a few here and there would be nice. Is this still going to happen, or is Reel Rides waiting after the second release?
If somebody from Malibu is reading this, the second release of the trucks was a bust. New tooling is the way to go and I have an idea: a day cab version of the International Eagle. This is one of the biggest voids in HO trucking... (day cab versions of class 8 trucks).

The Rosemont show is only 45 minutes away from me, so I'll be talking up a storm to all of the reps who will listen! Hopefully, Model Power and others will come through with a couple of more modern vehicles for collectors, and I'll report back to this forum when I get info from the show.

Marc and Bill,
Thanks for the information, are all of the previously announced police agencies coming out? Of course, I'm hoping for Illinois State Police and some darker colors for the Crown Vic. Also, that NYC taxi would be a good release.
