Nick,
As with most rumors or so-called finds, I only believe it if there is proof; real pictures of the models or their presence in hobby shops. Motormax would probably love to do the Vega in HO as well as the Matador. The Matador has a much better chance I would think. Right now, I'll wait for the Maverick and Accord. Thanks for looking!

Vega wagon? Did Chevrolet ever make such a vehicle in 1:1? This is probably a fantasy right now as I doubt any Vega will be made in HO by Motormax. If this comes to fruition, then Motormax is full of surprises!

I hope they keep the Fresh Cherries name, why change it so fast? Fresh Cherries sounds much better. Then again, if they want to do modern vehicles such as 1985-2007 vehicles under the Sweet Cherries name, fine by me!

Guys,
The bottom line is this: they seem to be doing well in the hobby shops as well as Walmart. I jusked asked my local hobby shop how the Fresh Cherries were selling and they were very pleased. They may be obscure and a little odd, but it looks like Motormax is selling quite a few of them in HO.
Now, if I can only work on them so they can make some modern Hondas! They're getting close!

STIG,
The AMC Hornet and Ford Mustang are out, the Ford Maverick and '82 Honda Accord are next.

Sorry Bill, I'm not going to New York City, and I'm certainly not going to buy stock in Mattel. I'll just concentrate on CMW at the show like I always do. Hopefully, some diecast from the 1980's-2007 will be announced but I won't count on it!

Nick K,
I sure hope Mattel is at iHobbyExpo in Rosemont, IL this Oct. because we're going to have a long talk. You are correct, Matchbox would have been the better choice by far. The chance to buy modern Japanese vehicles alone would make this really exciting for collectors and model railroaders alike.

Alright guys, I bought some new Fresh Cherries today, got a 20% on them so at 3.60 a pop they weren't bad, and they certainly are not abysmal. 2 areas where the quality has gone down: mirrors and lights. There are no mirrors, but I can deal with that. The headlights are not clear plastic, nor are the tail lights red plastic. The tires are still too wide.
Let's put this in perspective: These are designed for model railroaders, not the serious collector. And at 3.60, I can't complain all that much. They were better than I thought they would be after hearing all the bashing on this forum. I will continue to support Motormax, but not Hot Wheels.

Guys,
Look at it this way, Hot Wheels has entered the HO scene and I haven't seen anything look as bad as those wastes of metal. I hate being right, when it means the end result is an inferior model. I'll take a look at them, probably get a few, but why take backward steps? If the Mustang is indeed too high, why in the world has this become an issue with Motormax? Is it the packaging?
Over on the Motormax web site, nobody responds to posts from the customers unlike Atlas, who listens and has interaction with their fans and gains valuable research from their forum. If you don't listen to your fans and don't give feedback, you will surely not enjoy success over the long term.

ponyman,
I hope you're right, I would love to see mirrors on these models. I'll keep quiet until they start appearing in stores, which I hope is soon. I can't even find the second release of colors from the first 6 cars!

I just noticed that there will be no mirrors on the next 3 cars that will be released. Now, if these are pre-production shots, hopefully, they'll be added. It looks like the Maverick, Mustang, and Hornet are close though. If these are added to the line without mirrors, it's a step backwards because the first 6 had them. Now, the price will be increased through Walthers to 4.50 each and we'll possibly get no mirrors. This is a shame because they should be included for the extra price.

ponyman,
Welcome to the forum, and I'm with you, I would love to see some newer Fresh Cherries from 1985-2007. They could start with the first generation Taurus, then some newer Dodge and Chrysler models like the Magnum or Commander. I don't mind the original concept, but I hope they offer some newer vehicles as well.

Bill,
Many years ago when Kato made their HO scale Nissan and Toyota I knew it was something special. Something that may not be repeated again, simply because there was barely a market for American vehicles at that time. I am fortunate to have known that those vehicles from Kato were special and bought 1 of each color. They still stand today as some of my favorites in my collection, if not right up at the top. Top-notch, quality models and very short-lived. If that is it for premium models of Japanese prototypes at least I can say I supported the cause.
Now, I hope that the Taurus SHO, Dodge Challenger and Dodge Journey do well for Masterpiece for those 3 vehicles alone make it a good year for Masterpiece. Throw in 3 new colors on the new Jeep Wrangler and possibly a Fed Ex step van and I won't need a Japanese vehicle now. Maybe the time will be right in 2009 for an announcement.

Bill,
Your first paragraph in reply #177 is very revealing. If "about a thousand models" of a typical 1/87 premium model get sold in the hobby channel how does anything get made? Or, did you have this conversation a few years ago? I'm hoping that the market is better than a thousand models typically here in the US, but, maybe that is the reality.
Motormax needs to get in gear and come out with the Honda Civic and Accord that they have announced first before anything else is even speculated, something that is pretty hard to do apparently. Also, diecast in HO is losing momentum at the moment, at least in my opinion. 3 examples of announcements from manufacturers with nothing but delays: Motormax, Reel Rides and Model Power.
By the way, there is a thread about Masterpiece on the Atlas Forum and you mentioned that Masterpiece is talking with a Japanese manufacturer. Has that been cancelled now? What you said in paragraph 3 (Reply #177) is probably going to happen some day but not anytime soon and not unless sales are strong for the Civic and Accord.

River Point Station could be a wild card in this someday if their Ford cars and SUV's sell well for them. They have said that they are looking at other manufacturers, but not GM. Could those other manufacturers be Japanese in nature? Who knows? They are focusing on the current scene in the US and you can't ignore the fact that over 50% of the car and SUV market is Japenese. It's not going to happen now, nor is it going to happen next year. 5 years from now if RPS has been a runaway success and they are looking to expand they could be the ones to contact.
As a matter of fact, I'll e-mail Ron one day in the future about this possibility. All he can say is no, or it's worth looking into. But I will patiently wait for all of the Ford products first!
