Bill,
I didn't say RPS is the only manufacturer forcing me to model modern, I meant that my modeling year will be 2007 because of all the 2008 models being introduced. Ricko has the 2007 Caliber, and my year was going to be 2006, then RPS came in with more recent vehicles.
Yes, there are others, and Ricko right now is the most influential manufacturer of the 2000's. Masterpiece will have a major role as well as RPS and of course, Busch. And that's the plastic side of the hobby. High Speed is doing great things also and will have a major role on the layout. I must also mention Trident, who have made some decent models.
There you go Bill, did I forget anybody?

Bill,
You stated that the next vehicle in development will be a Ford, is there another manufacturer that RPS is considering, perhaps Chrysler? I know that GM is out, unfortunately. If RPS considers Chrysler, they would have an outside chance of doing a minivan, one of the most frequently seen vehicles in the US. Yes, I do have quite a few versions from Busch, but it's dated if you're modeling 2007, which RPS forced me to do!

If enough people called or e-mailed RPS and stated that they would love to have a Lincoln LS in HO scale then I think there is a good possibility simply because I was told it's an idea. If the Town Car and Navigator come out and sell well then it could become a reality.

Nick,
RPS told me that the Lincoln LS is a possibility, so that's why I mentioned it. Actually, when it was first introduced sales were pretty brisk in Chicagoland. I think if the Ford trucks sell well, we'll see more cars and SUV's from RPS.

I really hope that RPS will eventually sell their products in more hobby shops because I really want to be able to see it in person first. We'll see how this turns out, but the models look great so far. If RPS makes the Lincoln Navigator and Town Car, then I may have to get the champagne out! Add the Lincoln LS to that list and there will a major celebration in Chicagoland!

I understand that Busch has become a distibutor for Ricko and Masterpiece, which covers American vehicles, but I can't understand not utilizing something that already exists in their line. I certainly don't want Busch to come up with completely new tooling on the E-350. I want them to use it as is with a generic body if need be to avoid licensing costs.
Busch has an excellent reputation for quality, well deserved as a matter of fact. Mark had a good point about airport shuttles being done for European and American transport companies, which I think would sell well. Busch has chosen to avoid American vehicles lately and that bothers me, simply because I like them so much.
Even if they would offer generic contracting companies on their high cube van it would be appealing to many modelers, just like the Masterpiece step van. As long as the sides, ends, and rood were painted silver, it would be great. Remember, this is tooling that already exists.

As far as modern US buses are concerned, 2 are out, the GM fishbowl from Busch and the newest release from Holland-Oto. Both are excellent models but there are problems with each not related to tooling: With Busch, they had an excellent chance to do the CTA's latest paint scheme (Chicago Transit Agency) and they blew it. They did a generic green and cream version, which came up short. Holland-Oto has an excellent Coach USA bus, but of course it will be nearly impossible to buy it in the US.
Also, why can't Busch make an airport shuttle bus or mini school bus with the E-350 Ford cab? Are they done with American tooling? I
I just need some Busch and Holland-Oto to come up with some new paint schemes and better distribution respectively.

I personally wish for the new Holland-Oto buses to be available in the US. They look very sharp, and Coach USA is one of my favorite liveries. I'll try to order this one if possible. The buses are already available in schemes that look great so I won't even bother hoping for new tooling.

Bill,
That is a quite impressive list for possible Oldsmobiles! Next time you meet with management at Reel Rides please mention that modern Oldsmobile is virtually non-existent in HO. Any choice from that list would work for me and many others I'm sure. I can recall a very crude resin Magnuson Olds Cutlass 442? and of course the beauty from Model Power. That's it!

Nick,
If you can think of Universal or Paramount movies or TV shows with the Oldsmobiles you mentioned, e-mail Reel Rides. Who knows, it's worth a shot! I am a big Oldsmobile fan; the Cutlass Supreme ruled here in Chicago in the 80's as far as sales. The Delta 88, Toronado, and Aurora are all cars I would love to see in HO scale. Of course, a popular movie is in order; even if these are to be found, a movie that was a dud at the box office won't work for our cause.

I'll take these from Masterpiece because Jeep is hot and Dodge is cool:
1. Jeep Liberty (2007) 2. Jeep Compass (2007) 3. Jeep Patriot (2007) 4. Jeep Commander (2007) 5. Dodge Charger (2007) 6. Dodge Magnum (2007) 7. Dodge Intrepid (1998) 8. Dodge Ram (Original) 9. Dodge Aries K car (1985) 10.Dodge Dart (1972)
If 3 out of the list make it to production, I'll be happy!

Sorry for the late reply, but here's my top 3:
Ricko Dodge Caliber (love that car, need 2 more colors!) Model Power Ford Crown Vic (love police cars) Model Power Olds 442 (an Olds 442 in HO that's well done!)
The list for 2007 is large and growing by the week it seems.

Ok, let's call it indirect competition; I'll give you an example. There was a member on the Atlas forum who models the current period, just like me. He was very talented and had many scenes of streets and parking lots on his layout. A perfect candidate for modern Ricko and Busch vehicles. Do you know how many Ricko and Busch vehicles I saw? Zero. nada, zip. Why? Because of Walmart and the Malibus, he was putting the 2.00 vehicles on including plenty of exotic cars from Lamborghini. I called him on it and he said he wasn't going to put expensive cars and trucks on his layout. Apparently, anything over 5.00 is high for a vehicle, yet he was buying HO scale brass diesels at 800.00!

It's amazing that Walmart is competing with hobby shops for a source of HO vehicles. I never expected this but it is very welcome. The availability of the Fresh Cherries has been terrible though around Chicagoland and I wish that could be corrected. Yes, every outlet is important in the expansion of our hobby. So if Walmart wants to offer decent quality HO vehicles at a really cheap price, I welcome them and wish that it continues for the forseeable future.

Great looking structures Lee! That is something that would look good on most modern layouts! Maybe a tad smaller in length though! Thanks for posting the photos.
