I think it's fair to say Brekina is becoming firmly established as one of Germany's premier modelmakers.
I liked the Volvo Amazons and Mercedes Ponton models, but the new Opel Rekord is truly outstanding. Every time I look at mine, I find something new to like. Based on the quality (and quantity) of detailing, I think it is the equal of Herpa's promotional Mercedes SLK.
The Brekinas of the past few years have been reasonably well-moulded; they just needed some paint and detailing.

Dear Sirs: I agree about Brekina's proeficency on modelmaking, but I dare to say that Busch is not lagging behind either.Their releases, such as the GMC TDH bus,was at the collector's wishes for a good while. And the first Benz,Audi racers and even the Puch 500 are good additions to a collection. To my view, these two modelmakers are putting out products that are imaginative and desirable and hope that Wiking (well, they are turning around too) and Herpa take note of their activities.

Wiking is doing some very nice things, too. Especially if you are a fan of agricultural and light construction models. I can't wait for the little Neuson front-tipper coming in April. Something to go with the Schaeff excavator and last year's John Deere 6920S was just outstanding.
Busch is a very good modelmaker. Indeed, they are the American model fan's best friend. In addition to their new vehicle models, they have some neat stuff coming in their model r******d line that will be a lot of fun for diorama builders.
Herpa I can't figure out. When they put their minds to it, they make some of the best models available. Unfortunately, they have become a promotional products manufacturer more than a model company. There is no depth to their product offerings. Busch and Wiking make promotional models and Brekina has its "Werbemodelle", especially the nice Deutsche Post sets, but they all make other models, as well. I think the Wageners need to seriously consider where they want to be in a few years. The promotional market is going to the cheap Chinese models and collectors want more than a steady stream of BMWs.

Dear Sirs:
Agree completely with BillC.I also noticed that the small manufacturers also came with very pleasant news this year,be it the Peugeot 505,buses and 4-door opels.I also agree about Herpa's stale position.I mean, when I discovered these in 1981,they were the greatest and they were pushing innovation for 1/87 scale.Now..........is only promos. I liked Igra's release-Scania buses;Mo Miniatures agricultural tractors are interesting and the Opels from this other company were good news.

I was really pleased to see Wiking's quad/ATV whatever you call it.
While Busch and Brekina are doing very well at modelling unusual cars and brands, Wiking seem to be really looking at new kinds of vehicles to model. Maybe they will offer a good motorcycle, a Ducati or such.
And I must say that it is very sad to see the number of releases (Wiking's Bobcat for instance) curtailed due to licensing issues. Makes me wonder how many things were considered or planned but never saw the public eye. Licensing problems seems to be the new trend, and it makes me feel like I live in somebody's nightmare vision of the future...

Wiking's withdrawal of the Bobcat really puzzles me. They apparently have the tools for it, why throw them away? They could have just given it a generic name as it was already proposed last year.

Maybe they can rerelease it now that Mattel let go of the Ferrari license? Was the Wiking Bobcat announced as a Bobcat? Because then Bobcat would be able to prove in court that it is not a "generic". Lawyers suck.

Wiking never called it a Bobcat or anything but a skid-steer loader. However, it is my understanding is that is was to have been a John Deere. It may have been that John Deere cancelled the project, meaning Wiking would no longer have had the license to produce it. On the other hand, it may have just been postponed, meaning the model may yet be produced.
From a source at Spielwarenmesse I understand the 6-wheel ATV is the more likely to see production, although I think Wiking would find the 4-wheeler sold very well if they made it.
Skunk, don't forget Busch's new Harley Chopper. It's a very nice-looking bike.

But that's my problem. My hope is that someone will finally model a nice Japanese or Italian crotchrocket, a Ducati 996 or a Yamaha R1 or whatever.

Dear STANHAS87 - I went through these toy fair pictures once again, but I can't still find any pictures of Chevy SSR, Plymouth Prowlers or PT Cruisers. (By the way, the PT Cruiser excists in 1/87, both as a resin kit (BS Design) and as key chain).
