Interesting!! What I was originally talking about on the Boley was not the type of or the gap between the individual tracks, but the over all length of the tracks compared to the over all length of the tank itself. They are at least 1/4 inch or more to long. The only way to change it is to change the whole track unit including the wheels. Then the front of the tank would have to be changed. It would just be easier to buy a Roco model. But it is interesting where a misunderstanding will take us and what can be learned.
Back when I was knocking the model in the picure that Eric put on, it was done with tounge in cheek. The model really is not that bad. The only reason that I would not buy it is that it is not in my time period.

Would Life-Like's models be counted as some of the worst? I'd like to take the hollow Olds Toronado or Cadillac Eldorado (or whatever it is) and make an Austin Powers "pimpmobile", but there is soooo much work to be done even to the exterior panels of the model. Speaking of Austin Powers...has Wiking considered making a Jaguar E into an A.P. car with the Union Jack on the hood, etc?

I know what you mean, I have attempted to turn one of these Life-Like Cadillacs into something more presentable myself. Had to give up though, the exterior of the model has strange mould seams and sinkholes and correcting that would have taken more time then completely scratchbuilding a model. Releasing models from moulds that are that worn should be forbidden The A.P. Jag is a nice idea but it is not very likely that Wiking would ever release it. I guess that it is time to get out your airbrush and lots of masking tape !

Hi, for me all the models from the big four are good, even some others a bit rare like the Lancia Delta Integrale from Co.Met are ok for me. I haven't a model in my collection that I dislike. Except one: the VW Polo (last generation) from Wiking. There's no big mistake, it's well detailed, metallic paint, every thing but the scale. The car it's almost as big as the BMW X5 from Herpa and actually as big as the Audi TT from Rietze... I don't know, maybe all my collection is not in 1/87 or the Polo is not in 1/87.

Daniel, could you post the dimensions (l/w/h) of the Polo ? The dims of the prototype can probably be found at the VW site, we could easily do a 'scalecheck'.

Sure, here they are: Lenght: 44mm Wide: 28mm without mirrors (30mm with mirrors) Height: 17mm
and the dimensions (taken from the swiss carbible "Katalog der Automobile Revue 2003") of the real one are: Length:3895mm Wide: 1650mm (with mirrors) Heigth:1460mm
By the way, excuse my english as I'm a non native speaker (I'm from Spain).

Thanks for posting the dims Daniel, I checked what the original l/w/h should be if converted to 1/87 and came up with this: lenght: 44.77 mm width: 18.95 mm (with mirrors) height: 16.78 mm Length and height are correctly converted but it looks as if something is definately wrong with the width of the model..... In case anyone wants to redo the mathematics, the scalecalculator can be found at: www.1-87vehicles.org/scalecalc.php. And Daniel, I wouldn't worry, your English is waaaay better then my Spanish ;D

I dont have this myself, but the Masudaya Ferrari 512BB seems like a winner... I have one myself.... and you're absolutely right. The other Masudaya models aren't much better either, we've got pictures of those on the site. Another one that came to mind is the APS Collection Volkswagen T2 pickup, it may not be a winner but it is definately a runner up in my opinion ;D

Just purchased Herpa's MB 280 SL: I guess bashing Herpa's Chinese efforts is rather redundant by now, but the incorrect wheels, badly modelled shape and missing window frame really grate on me. I dont know if Herpa's Alpine A110 is the worst, but as one of my favorite real world cars ever I was very disappointed to see the H0 version get the shape so wrong - it looks as athletic as a Daewoo.

I think we can find some good samples of the worst models ever made with Jouef serie II ;D or MPC ;D....but they worth to be kept in a collection...Indeed, how many manufacturers of Peugeot 504 berline or Peugeot 104 ? ....there are also some good choice in MPC range (Peugeot 403 familiale, Cunningham, MG-TF and many unusual American cars)... Am I out of subject when considering these "penny-toys"? :-/I don't think so, as they are collectible subject for our scale.

It reminds me… I’ve got one question about these MPC models. Most the times, they are sold as HO scale cars, but most of the models I’ve had in hands seemed to be really smaller than HO scale. So could someone tell me if I’m wrong or only too… "integrist" about 1/87 scale? ;D

Indeed, how many manufacturers of Peugeot 504 berline or Peugeot 104 ? Two if you are referring to Jouef...Martin Fredrich also makes them in resin.
