Dear Sirs:
Due to the fact that the 1/64 scale thread is not acessible right now and lost its views twice, this thread is a continuation of it.
On the 1/64 front,it is impossible to find the new Superfast models.Ebay is already offering them, specially the 2006 Corvette.I like the ideia that these comes with a box;hence,if these are liberated from the blisterpack,a box is still avaliable to protect it.I do not know the complete range of it;I will check around.
An Impossible model to find is Playing Mantid/Johnny Lightning Nash Metropolitan. As far as I know,a regular and a Coca Cola version was made, but one can not find these at the stores.Ebay is offering the Coca-Cola versions, mostly.
Hot Wheels Maserati Quattroporte is also impossible to find.
Jada Toys offers the Import series-Lexuses,Mitsubishi,Honda and Toyota- and the several variations of their low-riders.One item I like is their circa 1972 Chevy Pick up.Their 1953 Chevrolet is one of the few models of this car at this scale and an 1962 Cadillac is offered as well. I have to hit my listings and report the exotic makes avaliable at this scale.Number one,Ferrarri.
By the way, there is an East European make offered at this scale-the Trabant,by Maisto. My version is green colored.

Dear Sirs:
Mattel has the Ferrarri trademark right now.In the past, manufacturers such as Kidco made models from the 308 GTB along with Zylmex;the Testarossa was molded by Mattel and Matchbox and so was the F40.As Mattel grabbed the trademark, some interesting models, such as the Enzo and 465 appeared and these are very well reproduced.

Dear Sirs:
Lamborghini is a very exotic car.I saw only one in person in all my years in America.
Matchbox did reproduced the Countach,Marzal and Diablo.
Hot Wheels had models of the Countach and Diablo and now the Murcielago version.
Welly had the Diablo and Murcielago version.
I do not remember how it is called, but Tomica choosed to reproduce the Lambo SUV besides its Countach.
Playart had a model of the Lamborghini Miura.
Zee Toys reproduced the Countach. Its sucessor,Motormax, still offered the same model thus far.
Maisto does offer the Murcielago (no interior, unfortunately) and did molded a Diablo as well.
If a road test is performed,Wellys Diablo is the best of the lot;Playarts Miura is not bad;Tomica's models are excellent and the Matchbox offerings are quite good.
And,yes,I am sure that there is more.

i found this website awhile back. it's from a collector up in washington state. this guy is a collector of primarily 1/64th cars, although he does have stuff from other scales. his knowledge base of everything ever made in 1/64th is extensive. every month, he and his contributors put out a newsletter on various subjects pertaining to their scale. you could spend hours (trust me) looking at the archives of newsletters, his listing of makes and models, etc. it's both a bit of a stroll down memory for toys long gone, as well as being made up-to-date on who's making what diecasts. after spending time here, you're bound to add to the "i wish they made this _______ in 1/87th" thread. www.breithaupts.com/toycar.html

Dear kl993:
I have the above-mentioned site on my favorites. This is a good way to write here at this site and on this thread and the Vehicles in 1/87 I will present the articles as that.Notice that at the Lamborghini entry,I did a 'road test'. I will do the same at the 'vehicles in 1/87 thread and talk about both manufacturers and makes.
Thank you for the info.

Dear Sirs:
Talking about memory lane,it happened to me twenty years ago: I was strolling at Toys R Us and found this series of cars made in Hong Kong. They had a little motor and the cars offerd were the 1980's Olds Cutlass coupe and the 1982 Toyota Celica. I settled for the Oldsmobile. It looks good and unless I hear otherwise, this is the only model of this car in any scale. There are far more of the Monte Carlos, including the one which had the rear bubbletop. Incidentally,I never saw this model again, either,be at the toy shows, swap meets or eBay (fact is,I would not know how to look for it at eBay- Hong Kong generic model? Nah,just under Oldsmobile Cutlass).

Dear Christian:
It is at the bottom of the page two of the 'off topic' section. And it can be checked: no one can post any threads on it.

Dear Sirs:
A review of 1/64 model vans:
Tempo Matador,by Siku. A very acceptable model.
Volkswagen,1st generation by Playart,Lone Star,Matchbox,Playing Mantis/Johnny Lightning,Welly,Lindberg.
Is interesting to notice that the one from Playart has the bumpers as it should be,but these do break easy and the middle doors do get lost also. The Lone Star has the most opening features- the middle doors, rear cargo hatch and engine;it one of the best of the lot.The one from Playimg Mantis is top notch.Wellys version is in between, and it comes with or without motor. The first vans from Matchbox were in the toy-ish side but (introduced in the early 1960's) but the ones which solldiered on by the later part of the decade had middle opening doors and lowered or raised roof.By 1999,it was re-launched (new tooling) as the transporter and this particular, first model is almost impossible to find.Color variations kept going to the present and even these are a challange to be encouterd. The roof is opened, and there are not any opening features; otherwise,it a bit below than the Playing Mantis version.
The Lindberg version is a plastic kit and is decent.Raised roof.
The second generation was captured by Siku and it offers a sliding door feature; so does the one of Zee Toys (one of their best castings) and Tomica also made their own version of it;that is the best one. Matchbox also had a model of it,and the plastic roof would rise. The one from Mattel is the one that is a custom version and has a surfoard on it.The original is a 30 year plus scarce item and some of the surviving ones traded hand at thousand of dollars deals.A replica of it was made in the 1990's.
The third generation of it was made by Hot Wheels.Decent model, authentically cast, raising plastic roof.
The fourth generation was captured by Maisto; decent results, but not fantastic.
The current generation of this van was made by Matchbox, and that is a good casting, but the one from Playing Mantis/Johnny Lightning is a tad more decent.Welly is also offering one,but up to now I only saw its photo and looks good.
Dodge van models are replicas from the one of the 1970's from Zee Toys-good effort, and it was by itself until the beggining of this Century until Playing Mantis/Johnny Lightning released their version, from the same period.Goes without saying that the latter is better.I am quite hoping for a model of the late 1990's.
Ford vans does not include the one from 1971 or earlier, but it start from the circa 1977 one by Yat Ming,Majorette and a recent one by Playing Mantis/Johnny Lightning. In this case, even the one from Yat Ming looks good, but the Mantis one is the better of the lot.Matchbox has the current one avaliable;it is a decent effort.
British Ford vans from the 1970's have their model from Zee Toys;has opening features at the rear. The Ford Transit is well represented as well, specially by Matchbox but the current renditions of Corgi Jr are worthwhile efforts but this time the Matchbox versaion is the best one.
Chevrolet vans are quite well represented. The Corvair based van should have a copy, but that is not the case.Lindberg has a version, plastic kit, from the one from the late 1960's and this is quite common to find.Next,Tomica has a model from the 1970's in several versions, and it up to their good Standards. The one from Matchbox is fine and it comes as a standard or 4 x 4 model and this particular model been around for a good while. The newer one is made by Maisto (also avaliable at the Tonka series) and Motormax (the location of the rear lenses is wrong, however and there is almost not a detail at its front end). I believe that the one from Buby is a Chevy, from the 1980's.
GMC vans have only a couple of models I know: the one from the TV show A-Team by ERTL (1980's,of course) and the current one, reproduced by Playing Mantis/Johnny Lightning.
Toyota vans from the 1980's are captured by Majorette (nice casting) and transformers (whoever did that). The current Previa is repoduced by Tomica.Good model. I need to give a look at the other japanese vans.because most of available models from Tomica are of versions that did not made to the US,specially the Nissan and Mazda versions.
Honda Odissey is also made by Tomica.
The Dodge Caravan. Well, that is a legend by itself. The first generation was made by Matchbox and it came as a Vegas Show promo (very expensive now) or conventional model.Another scarce item: the Chrysler Voyager version, made for the Belgian Market.Wish I could find that.Hot Wheels came with a new generation, but the front grille is from a Plymouth (or they intended to reproduce an European model?) and a crude model by Yat Ming.
This does not cover it.Next, the less known Vans.

Dear Sirs:
Ford Thunderbird.
The first generation of this vehicle was molded by Kidco, and this is a so-so model, not that easy to find.Playing Mantis/Johnny Lightning has also a version of it.
The second generation was molded by Matchbox in 1960,and that was the first number 75 of the 1-75 series.Toy-ish; the Playing Mantis version is by far better.
The third generation also included a four-door sedan, but that did not graduated to 1/64. Mattel made one,but it is too custom; again, the Mantis came with a decent version.
There is only model from the Thunderbirds from the 1970's,and that was offered by Yat Ming.Very reasonible item; Yat Mings were very well casted and at times very detailed.
Equally, the Thunderbird that is not in anyone's wish list-the one from 1979 to 1982- was molded by ERTL and ACTION as a Nascar Racer.
The final design that lasted up to the late 1990's was molded by ERTL (circa 1983 model),Matchbox and Majorette (mid-1980's models). The Mantis did some as racers.
By all means, this is not a complete list.

The best one has to be the Mazda Bongo Friendee Wagon... I dont know if a model was ever made of it, but the name!

Dear Sirs: There were less models of Japanese cars around ten years or so ago.Only the sporty ones would be molded;the sedans and other types would be mostly ignored.Ebbro, the 1/43 manufacturer, did covered a spot in here or there. In 1/64,Tomy from Japan is the one which offers a good array of japanese vehicles.Incidentally, this manufacturer was not sucessful in the US due to two reasons: for one, since their models were very accurate it would cost around $1.70 (late 1970's dollars).Hence, most of the mothers would pass these. Also,a big amount of their lineage were japanese cars, and at that period these were not this venered. Hence, they were around from the mid-1970's to the late 1980's;then one could get these at the mail-order outlets and now,as everything else,at the Internet (read eBay). Today's models are,as everything else, done in China for Japan ( and the collectors are hounding the japanese-made ones). Their non-japanese prototypes were extensive as well, from the Rolls-Royce to Volkswagen to the 1975 Dodge Coronet. Their japanese models are extensive. From Toyota one can find the Corolla,Land Cruiser.Crown and the current Megacruiser and Rav4.The Lexus brand is represented with the Toyota Celsior sedan;so is the Scion, with the sqarish wagon's model or Toyota bB. From Nissan, the Bluebird,Skyline,President and the current Micra is avaliable. So does the Infinity,as the Nissan Skyline sedan. An interesting item is the 1978 Datsun pick-up.In reality, this vehicle is similar to an El Camino, but it is a car with two seats and a pick-up bed. Suzuki is represented by a Micro MPV. Daihatsu Midget is modeled. Mazda models includes the RX7 and the current RX8 and Bongo van. Mistubishi has the Starion,Pajero and the current Lancer SVO. Subaru models includes the Legacy Wagon. Honda models includes the Accord,Civic,,the Vamos and the current CR-V.Accura is represented by NS-X sports cars. Isuzu models includes Elf trucks and 117 coupe. Missing here is the Hino Sedan and no one modeled the Austin-type japanese cars or the ones from the late 1950's and early 1960's.Yet Tomica has a special edition of the First Toyota-1938 AA sedan. Also, the Datsun 1500 sedan has a limited edition model as well. Of course, this is only a sample of what is avaliable. There are many more japanese models, specially from Tomy. The site below lists their models. hellototomica.com/index_e.html

Dear Sirs: One of the books on diecast I have puts a question mark near the Olds Vista Cruiser that might be done by Lindberg;it seems that this site does the same.I been looking for this item, and I was not sucessful. Yesterday,on my 'shopping walks',I found a 1/64 model of it and this one is not a deformed blob.Take the big block and modify the wheels and it will look very, very good. Funline started business by offering monster trucks from Ford,Chrysler GM and Jeep. The bodies are plastic, decently molded;the 'monster stuff' if deleted will create a nice vehicle. They did also offered no monster trucks from this vehicles and molded the only 4-door Dodge Dakota pick up that I know and they were the first to offer a model of the new Jeep Liberty before Matchbox or Maisto. They also offer the 'Muscle Machines' series and these are customized blobs at best.Yet,unique models, again.were offered such as the 1965 Chevelle Malibu 2-door wagon.1956 or 1957 Oldsmobile and some others. The Vista cruiser is theirs,a 1970 model, and the proportions are,to my amazement, all right-and that is a pleasant surprise. They also expanded their series, such as the haulers-imported racing cars that properly modified,as Jack did, they loog great, and a diecast range from Jesse James series and that includes the new GMC sierra pick-up and a 1957 2-door Chevrolet Handyman Station Wagon (like the nomad, but it had a vertical pillar at the middle of the rear window). Finally, the monster garage, where this converted cars really do their stuff. Their site is listed below, but they do not list the Olds Vista cruiser or the Malibu Wagon. And I agree:most of the Muscle series are blobs. But the monster garage and Jesse James are decent creations. www.musclemachines.com/index.asp
