Dear Sirs:
Got it: the Olds Vista Cruiser.Jack is ready to modify it;the exposed engine will go,along with the wheels. He did liked the proportions of the model as well.I will see the results of his work on a month, more or less I am pretty sure that I will like the results.
I also won an a couple of Mercedes from Welly (c280 and 600) and an Audi from Maisto (new one) at eBay.Hence,I am doing quite well.
If I see the Olds at eBay,I will post its picture.

Dear Sirs: Until 1997.Welly was a very unknown manufacturer. They existed since the 1980's,and even then the 'Welly' logo and a number was printed at the chassi.Around 1997, they offered a line of 1/43 scale Chevrolet Caprice Police cars that had a little motor.By 1998,their first 1/18 scale model range appeared and today this manufacturer offers vehicles in several scales, including the odd 1/36 and 1/40. Their 1/64 range is by all means interesting. There is a 1968 Chevrolet Chevelle SS396,a 1953 Chevrolet 3100 pick-up (nice model),a Dodge Ram pickup, one of the very few GMC Yukon SUV models,a current Alfa Romeo Convertible and their masterpiece is,by all means, their 1965 Pontiac GTO.I mean,it is not as nice as the one from ERTL's Muscle Car series, but is good enough. They also molded a Peugeot 206,the new Bettle and a 1970's Buick and it does not stop here.A Land Rover discovery is also present, along with BMW X5 SUV,Mercedes A and S class,Lamborghini Diablo,Audi TT,BMW 3 series and the 2001 Chevrolet Impala. There are civilian and Police,Taxi models of the 1991 Chevrolet Caprice;and civilian and Police models of the 1999 Ford Crown Victoria and the latter is so nice that even has the Ford Oval at the front grille and at the rear. Their Porsche 356 convertible is also quite well molded. Models from the past includes the Chevrolet Pick-up, Porsche 911 and the Ford Sierra.;there are more, but these are not that nice.A good selection of Audis is avaliable and the unavoidable Corvette,Camaro,Firebird and a nice 1970 Mustang were modeled as well. Boley did distributed these brand and at eBay is not unusual to see Welly products under Boley's name.Contrary to Maisto's practice, their little cars have interiors. The police Vic has computer detail! Not bad for a 3 inch long car! Dear Sirs: I discovered these guys at eBay and never noticed that MAR mentioned them once in a while. It is Biante,an Australian manufacturer of 1/18,1/43 and 1/64 models. The latter ones seem to be at the same level as ERTL muscle cars;lots of detail. Goes without saying that the main subject are Australian cars;several generations of Holdens are molded by them and I am interested in the Monaro most(it is a case of Opel Rekord/Chevrolet Opala badge sharing). Also they do have a good variety of Falcons and Australian racing vehicles (specially the ones from Kmart and that was MAR's coverage).Of course,Utes are molded too.An enormous surprise would be a 1/64 model of the Leyland P76 sedan, but I do not think so. As stated,on the Holden front, there are several generations and models of this maker avaliable. The Fords are seen limited to the Falcon, specially the newer ones. There are Commodore models as well, including the one that became the new GTO. They also seem connected to Auto Art. Their vehicles can be seen at their site; the 1/64 models should be searched as Biante Minicars. www.biante.com.au/

Dear Sirs:
This is a little comment about this scale.
Granted, most of the cars are toys, but by being so,the manufacturers of these can offer a wider variety of models. The American Muscle series from ERTL can be called models, because these had all the details from the real cars, and the chassi was not held by screws or rivets,as the real thing, and most the underframe detail were separate parts. Also, the engine block had the right color,as the real vehicle.
State of the art has different peceptions over time. The first Matchbox models were considered as so at their time, and the above-described ERTL model may look crude years from now. This is a concept that one has to aware of.
The other is the definition of toy.At cases,it is difficult to do a clear definition what a toy or model is.Some of the Matchboxes can pass as models;yet some Solidos can be considered toys and the early Wikings were at the between yet some of the 50 year old Wikings have an amazing array of details.
Taken these facts on consideration, from the modern 1/64 manufacturers,Welly will give a lot of detail for their vehicles, and these are dollar toys.Yet,their Vic police cruiser has computer detail at its interior,a good amount of detail underneath and some of their NYPD versions were sold between $35.00 and $81.00 at eBay.The other cars look good too but these are just that-toy-ish renditions of the real car. However, their Mercedes vehicles and 1965 Pontiac GTO are very well captured and their 2001 Impala looks good at the photos (never seen the real thing).Along with Motormax, these are the second highest detailed toy one can get.
Motormax is what used to be Zee Toys.Yet,their newer cars-introduced 2001- are very well detailed, but the wheels leave a lot to be desired.Source of many unique car models; hope that they keep up.Adittionally, these are easier to find than the Wellys.
Playing Mantis is a top of the line model;yet it pales when is put opposite to ERTL's Muscle Machine replicas.Yet.the models are well captured and it is the source of several unique models, including the Nash Metropolitan and Tucker Torpedo. All in all,Tom Lowe's company is always modeling a replica of a vehicle that was not on 1/64 before.
Small players include Auto Art which are extremally well captured vehicles. As one magazine article put it:it seems that the company used a magical wand and reduced some of their 1/18 models to 1/64.I did not heard if new models will be released in the future, what would be a shame.Golden Wheels also have a selection of cars, and their Checker and 1950 Chevrolet are quite good renditions;the same can be said of their circa 1950 Oldsmobile coupe. It seems that like Hongwell,Golden Wheels is also connecetd to many other firms.Tiger Wheels -based on Pyerto Rico, but the models were from Anson- are fair to spectacular renditions, but the wheels are not that good. The Buick Riviera and 1970 Maverick are the superb pieces.
Matchbox,Mattel and Maisto are all well known by now so not many comments will be made.On Maisto's case, too bad that their 1/64 do not have interiors.Up to now, this company has the highest line of show car models.I will list these in the future.Their show car offerings are still current.
Realtoy and Fast Lane deserve some credit, too because they also released several unique models and/or were quick to offer new models of Jeep Gran Cherokees or Mustangs.Lately, fast lane is offering bizarelly painted Motormax models;yet,at sets, some of their older and/or non-Motormax offerings are avaliable.
Siku popularized 1/55 model cars.Again, except for the wheels at same cases, the cars are very good replicas and good source for German car models.Majorette is a good source for french models,as is Norev, and both companies make very good reproductions. The Renault Fuego and Simca Horizon from Norev are very good.Incidentally,Majorette was the first who offered top pf the line 1/64 models;the ones from Matchbox came prior or after these.
Tomica completes the list and their vehicles were scaled and well reproduced;mostly japanese replicas.Give these a tweak or two,and they will look good indeed. There are many replicas which were very good reproductions of the real thing, but their special series Toyota AA tops them all.
There are more,of course, but these are the major ones. One thing to be remembered is: these are considered toys, yet,at least, there are a replica of a specific vehicle that no one ever did, such as the 2000 Cadillac de Ville.
Is not only that, but the Hong Kong and Chinese junk also did offered lots of interesting models, but as it is stated, these are junky. An example may be the 1972 AMC Matador from the generic Chinese sources. It is interiorless, the shape of the body is not that right, but the front grille (that is the way one can determine that is a 1972 model) and the rear detail is correct as well, but I can garantee that it will not desintegrate with time, just like this.Hey,this a $ .33 toy when I got them! They also did on of the first 1966 Pontiac coupe at this scale.
Newer additions to the scale include Jada Toys.Good stuff, residing on the 1/55 scale.Problem is,they concentrated too much on ultra-modified lowered cars and most of the detail is irregular,as opposed to the llow-riders made by Revell. These too, were considered high notch models;their 1947 Chevrolet Fastback is better than the one from Hot Wheels and Jada Toys.Is lowered, but all significant details are there.
And this will go on and on. Pictures will be added as found, speciall from ERTL's muscle machines.

Dear Sirs: Anson Models are known for their 1/18 scale vehicles;some 1/43 scale cars were molded as well. In association with this company of Puerto Rico,a new series of 1/64 were introduced around 2001 or so.Mostly these were Volkswagen Vans with several liveries, but a Chevrolet Chevelle,Camaro,1966 Buick Riviera,1997 Ford F150 pick-up,1955 Chevrolet pick-up (described as a 1958,but this vehicle does not have 4 headlights as its prototypes) and a Porsche.Critics stated that the whells are their lower point;otherwise these are very well executed models. These vehicles are not found elsewhere;either at eBay or the Tiger Wheels site.Anson got bought;yet, the Tiger Wheels seem to be in business.A Ford Maverick just has been released and its roster included a Ford Ranchero from the 1970's,but it seems that will be a future release. The only model of this vehicle-but again,I never saw it-was,supposedly made by this company whose vehicles had lights thanks to an AAA size battery. These vehicles are.in all terms, very scarce. The site below show pictures from their limited edition products. www.tiger-wheels.com/index.html

Dear Sirs: Pictures,Pictures. Auto Art's 1/64 vehicles,as they appear at their site: www.autoartmodels.com/pages/oldpage/junior.htm As it was stated on this toy magazine: these little models are like someone magically reduced Auto Art's 1/18 scale models to 1/64. As I understand, all the details are there, and the wheels look good, too.

Dear Sirs: Norev is primaraly an 1/43 scale manufacturer. Its story has been discussed elsewhere and is quite known. The first vehicles were molded in plastic and later, the company switched to diecast. This company also ventured to other scales,1/64 being one of them. Their 1/64 cars were their 400 series, and the following was offered: 400 Citroen BX 401 Ligier JS2 402 Matra Bagheera 404 Citroen GS 405 Peugeot 504 406 Citroen CX 407 Renault 12 408 Citroen Dyane 409 Renault 4L 410 Mercedes-Benz Ambulance 411 Maserati Boomerang 412 Bertone Trapeze 413 Renault 30TS 414 Peugeot 604 415 Simca 1308GT/Talbot 1500SX 416 BMW 633CSI 417 FIAT 1315 418 Porsche Turbo 419 Renault 14 420 Peugeot 3055R 421 Simca/Talbot Horizon Plymouth Horizon 422 Renault 18GTS 423 Volvo 264 424 Ford Mustang 425 Mercedes-Benz 280SE 428 Citroen Visa 429 Volkswagen Golf 430 Alfa Romeo 6 431 Peugeot 505 432 Fiat Ritmo 437 Renault Fuego 438 Ford Escort 439 Talbot Solara 450 Renault 9 460-468 A series of Chevrolet trucks, but as the discussed Dodge truck from Majorette, these Chevys also have different details than its American Counterparts. It is known that Norev went out of business for a while and then came back;in the process, new vehicles in 1/64 were molded.A list of these will be avaliable at the next post. These 1/64 cars were also known as Mini-Jets. The new 1/64 range of cars does not appear at the Norev's site; probably these are not being made any longer. As it is the case, pictures from the new-and old - vehicles will be taken from eBay as they appear or from a site that may have an article on these. Below, some excelent photos from a Norev 1/64 Citroen C2: cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=223&item=6923627795&rd=1

Dear Sirs:
A few months ago, thanks to eBay, I discovered that High Speed brand of cars also existed in 1/64,and the offering was a 1969 Oldsmobile 442.I was unable to bid, but I have the auction on my records.
Yesterday, someone I know gave me this olds as a present. The detailing is there, and this is a very nice model. Now I am curious if they molded more cars at this scale.
At eBay,High Speed is the same as Internet Services, and the Internet is of no use, either. As I know, this company was the one who manufactured Reader's Digest Gift Vehicles which were given away if someone subscribed (and at the same hand, these are Impossible to find) but they were molded in different scales than 1/64.Hence,I came to assume that this Olds is something on the scarce side.I will keep checking eBay on the meantime.

Dear Sirs: Jada Toys roster is also interesting, but 'lowered' and at the cost of loss of detail.I try to get the ones that are as 'original' as possible. They have Joe's project-1962 Cadillac 62 series convertible;also 1953 Chevrolet,1947 Cadillac,Cadillac CTS,Honda Civic,Lexus G an I series,1947 Chevy,Chevrolet Astro van,1957 Chevrolet panel van,1959 Cadillac,1971 Monte Carlo are offered.Their 1996 Impala SS is superb to my eyes. This company was umheard of by 2001 and I think that their first models were at the large scales. By mid-2001,the 1/64 series appeared, and these were all lowered cars with a good deal of detail loss. This year, new ranges did appeared and the cars are by far more detailed.See the links below. www.jadatoys.com/initialD164.html

Dear Sirs:
So far I know,it happened only twice in 1/64.Non 1/64 manufacturers tha did vehicles at this scale. Paul's models or Minichamps did some cars in this scale. There only two that I have: the Mclaren F1 coupe and the Fiat 600.High standards in modelling,to say the least and these follow scale.
These followed Minichamps detailing and were very well made. So far I know, only these two cars were done. Photos as I find them on eBay.

Dear Sirs: The first Maistos were packaged on Zee Toys cartons.Later, these had the 'MC toy' logo at their bases and the Maisto name was used from 1992 or so.Their first models were quite original and there are plenty of details. The latter are still present, but current 1/64 scale Maistos do not have interiors and are fitted with dark windows so one does not notice that. This company molded vehicles such as the Trabant,Citroen 2CV plus Peugeots,Mercedes,BMW,Volkswagen ( either the bug or the current Golf),Plymouth Prowler,Honda Civic,Toyota Celica and many others.Their SUV selection is a good one too-from Suburbans to the Ford Escape (I hope that I am not wrong when I state that this is the only model of this vehicle). Also, they were quite enthusiastic about (modern) show cars including the Saturn version that became the latter's SUV-and the Sky,plus two from Oldsmobile that never came to production since the make is extinct. Its founder its a Thai Gentleman who is a vehicle enthusiast as well.Cars were made in China or the Thai republic at times. Maisto's vehicles in other scales needs no introduction. Another interesting model molded by them was the Ford Jeep from second world war (Willys was not capable to manufacture the quantities required by the Armed Forces;hence Ford manufactured this vehicles as well, and these were identical to the Willys counterparts However, something disappointing is going with the current Maistos: all 1/64 vehicles do not have any interiors and this feel very cheap albeit that their graphics are terrific. Their line up is added below. www.maisto.com/products_toy.asp?id=42

Dear Sirs: Code 3 started business by the late 1980's and one of their first articles were mini-fire trucks;some of these were compatible to 'N' Gauge. They also had a series of Ford Crown Victoria State Police cars in 1/24 scale. By the 1990's,their Seagrave Fire truck was introduced and it would be used for several departments without modifications. A bit later, this company would something that no one did before:mold several different fire truck chassis. The other manufacturers,if they manufacture a say,an ALF fire truck,it would use it until the mold would fall apart.Code 3,up to 2000,had at least 5 different fire trucks that I can remember of besides the Seagrave, and their Crown was a very desired piece.Unknown chassis such a Luverne from Chicago were introduced as well. Their best piece was the vehicles from the TV show 'Emergency One'-the Dodge unit,Crown and Ward La France Fire truck. The Station 51 was molded as well, and well, that was a very nice item ( the diorama people from this board would have loved it). I do not know what they are doing now;the last new item that I remember was the equally superb Oskosh Airport Fire Unit. The Fire trucks buffs really liked their stuff and were quick to point their shortcomings and it seems that these were correceted. Boley seems to be following their example and this a benefit for the HO collectors. They are offering the S & S,Seagrave,International,GMC and if I am not wrong,an Oshkosh Airport Fire Unit.Athearn,on the other hand, just has the Ford 'C' series and NJ international molds the Ford and Pierce units only.Majorette's ALF is compatible to HO,and is being used to death (even as rocket launcher,if you can believe that). The Magazine Car Toys & Collectables interviewed the President of the Company, and his comments were that he wanted to do its models as realistic as possible - meaning, close to the equipment used by this or that fire department. Their products are very well rated and one can not get these at the retail stores any longer. When George's toy show was still around (the last one was on March 2002) I would meet Code3 representatives face to face, and bought the Dodge Fire truck from the TV show Emergency one from them. This is a very nice article. The Crown Fire Engine from the TV show was made too; I am not sure about the Ward La France. They also molded the largest Fire unit ever made that is used by the City of New York; have that too. And many more. Incidentally 0and that was a very awaited model - the Crown Fire Engine was very sucessful in terms of sales. The site below shows their current products. www.code3.net/fire/ Pictures of the Crown fire engine is located below: www.code3.net/product/detail.asp?item=12951 The Dodge from the TV show is a sold out item.Pictures below. www.code3.net/product/detail.asp?item=13940 The Ward La France from the TV show was molded;it is a sold item for the TV show or other liveries.Pictures: www.code3.net/product/detail.asp?item=12391

Dear Sirs: These vehicles were released by 2002 and they are one of the few 1/64 kits avaliable,if one can classify this vehicles as such. The package contains the basic car and extra seats, tyres and wheels and different -darker- windows as well. I heard a comment that is not that easy to exchange these items, because the vehicle is only three inches long. I keep wondering. A 1/43 series is also avaliable and includes one of the few GMC Yukon Models available. The series is called the modifiers; the manufacturer calls itself Xconcepts. Its site appears below: www.modifierscars.comThe following cars were molded: 202018 1999 Honda Civic coupe si seats, wheels, tyres are exchangable;the same applies for all of these, except for the Cadillac and Ford F150 which offer an exchangable gear lever but not seats. 202028 2000 Acura Integra R 202038 1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse gsx 202048 2000 Honda Accord Coupe ex 202058 2002 Cadillac Escalade 202068 2002 Ford F-150 xlt In all, these are well molded and also can be considered top of the line vehicles. A new series of car will debut soon, and there a series that offers the 1/43 and 1/64 model at the same package, including their new release: the Honda del Sol Coupe. Dear Sirs:
It was Zee,Zylmex or Zyll.Their cars were not that well made, yet they brought up some ineteresting models such as the Chevrolet Vega and Monza,Dodge Pick-Up,GMC pick-up and RV,1956 Ford Thunderbird and many others.By the 1990's,they were releasing several different models and by 1994,they ventured to the major scales and all of the 1/64 activities were frozen.I mean, one could find the older models at this scale but nothing was brand-new. The 'toys' logo did applied, because at certain cases, the cars were not real at all.Case in point was their 1970's Ford Mustang Cobra. That piece is mostly a lump;regretably,it is one of the very few models of it before Playing Mantis stepped in.Others, such as the Dodge Charger and 1956 Thunderbird are fine and some 'custom' vehicles were modeled as well (a custom VW bug among others). At times there were not a manufacturer logo inscribed at the base, but its a number preceded by a D or P were giveaways of the brand. Also,a motorized series of little cars were avaliable. The company added the Redbox logo and there were adresses from the US and UK.Some models of British cars were produced, but not in 1/64,and these are impossible to find now.By 1994,before the name change, decent models in 1/24 were being offered and up of the end of the 1990's,the company was mostly concentrating at this scale. The British models are mostly 1/36 scale for the cars;1/50 for the Double Decker bus and N gauge for the British tube train. As the new decade opened, the name was changed to Motormax, and new 1/64 models debuted: the PT Cruiser,Toyota Corolla and Celica,Nissan Skyline,1999 Pontiac Firebird,Toyota Camri ( only model of this car),Lincoln Navigator,Toyota Land Cruiser ( can be identified as a Lexus) and a very nicely done Chevrolet Suburban.Contrary to Maisto's practice, all of these have interiors and as everything else on today's toy market, these are well molded-and inexpensive. The wheels are their weak part. When these vehicles came out,no manufacturer logo was applied; only the number (at 6000's) and what it was.The logo started to appear at the models that were released prior to 2003,such as the Ford F150 4-door pick-up,Toyota Tacoma and others. The practice at their 1/24 vehicles was the same;the latter even had two reference numbers and many collectors could not tell that these were motormaxes.
