Made some progress on the steam ferry but this project has been on hold for a while. I managed to pick up an N scale 90' barge (staying with the nautical) and decided it made a decent 45' 1/87 scale barge. I'm canning the truck mounted shovel and am going to use it on the barge as a dipper bucket shallow dredge.

Like I need one more project but this is such an interesting kit, I had to get it. This is a brass lowbot kit from Sheepscot that has long been out of production. There's actually a small flatbed here as well as the fixings for a few winches.

Chester Please send this off to get re-etched/patterned again!!! When was this created by George, do you know why he is not producing them again?

Chester: I Agree, It Would Be Great To See A Kit Like That Issued Again Providing The Cost Is Not Out Of Reach. If George Does Not Have Any Objections To It Being Used As A Pattern, It Would Be An Interesting Project.

Speaking Of Etching, Do Any Members Know Of A Short Run Etching Service For 1/87th Items. ( Eg. Grills - Mirrors - Details ) Any Help Would Be Appreciated.

I will have to check with the owner of the shop where I picked this one up. He may very well have more. I also am going to discuss making this again with George. The original kit was $35 and I paid $25 since the wheels were not there. Dwight, I wish I was futher along with my own p.e. 'adventure'. I can't seem to get my artwork scaled out properly but I do have all of the equipment and chemicals to do p.e. work.

I picked up another solid resin Mack RD800 from Ralph Ratcliffe. A beautiful casting that came with fuel tanks and rear suspension. I put it on a cast metal frame with the Boley container frame but this has a long way to go yet.

I built this little Chevy LCF into a highway tractor some time ago and never was to happy with it. So I stripped it and built the bed and wrecker unit for the back. Right now it's just dry fitted with a coat of sandable primer. The wrecker is loosely based on an old Holmes 440 on my neighbors truck. Do the sides on the body look too high?

Chester, I am a great admirer of all your works, so even this one, but I think you are right about your hesitation concerning the the sides of the body. Looking forward to se the finished job.

Thanks for the input Bjorn, I've taken it to heart. I cut the sides down and recapped them as well as installed the bumper which will have clear red lenses in the holes. I've also shortened up the bicycle fenders that still need to be shaped in this shot and a frame mounted tool box is going just behind the cab on the driver side. Everything is still just dry fitted until I finish and mount the winch.

Thought some might like a shot of one of Sylvan's new kits. This is the Mack H63 in progress.

Chester looking good . Man those Sylvan kits are some great kits. What did you use for tires, do you have any plans for the grille area. SteveD

Thanks Steve, those tires are from CMW and fit right on Clare's rims (and really nice rims they are) I have already painted the grille with a RR tie brown that will get dry brushed with silver bef ore I'm done. It gives the impression of metal but not a shiny bright chrome.
