Dear Sirs:
Next I will deal with Matchbox.
I will list their commercial vehicles that approached 1/87 scale. My source of reference will be the Catalogue of the Model Cars of the World for the Lesney's up to 1967; and books from Charlie Mack for the Universal and Tyco period.
The list will cover the series, reference number and year when the model was released.Since this will be a complex listing, it will be reported at the next post. Comments on what it could be also will be added.

Dear Sirs:
One quick fact about Matchbox: probably they were crude, toys, the like but these were scale toys- at least the ones from the 1960's. My first one. 46 C, Mercedes 300 SE, was measured and all matches: the lenght, wheelbase, width and height. Most of the authors who wrote about the brand agree that by the 1970's,the scale issue was let to go; yet,by the 1980's,their real cars seem to go back to it. On my primary source of reference about the Matchboxes up to 1967, scales are cited for the models; there is another source which does the same. Hence, the vehicles that are listed here are based on these references and/or the ones I have in my collection.
Here is the firs list ( for the 1-75 series,it will be the black wheel collection, which lasted up to 1969 or so.The same goes for the other series). 1-75 series:
1 D Aveling Barford road roller 1962 1 E Mercedes-Benz truck 1968 2 D Mercedes-Benz trailer 1968 3 B Bedford Dump truck 1961 4 D Dodge Stake truck 1967 7 B Ford Refuse truck 1966 listed as 1/83 scale 10 D Leyland Pipe truck 1966 11 C Crane truck 1965 listed as 1/84 scale 11 D Mercedes-Benz Scaffold truck 1969 13 D Dodge Tow truck 'BP' 1965 14 C Daimler LCC ambulance 1962 16 D Case Bulldozer 1969 17 D Hoveringham tipper 1963 17 E AEC Ergomatic Horse box 1969 18 D Caterpillar Bulldozer 1964 21 D Foden Cement truck 1968 23 C Caravan 1960 24 A Wheaterhill hydraulic Excavator 1956 25 C Bedford 'BP' road tanker 1964 26 C GMC tipper truck 1968 32 C Leyland Petrol tanker 'BP' 1968 37 C Dodge Cattle truck 1966 38 A Karrier Bantam refuse truck 1957 39 B Pontiac Convertible 1962 44 C GMC Refrigerator truck 1967 47 B Commer 'Lyon's maid ice cream 1963 47 C DAF tipper container truck 1968 48 C Dodge Dump truck 1966 51 C AEC Ergomatic eight-wheel truck tipper 1969 54 B Cadillac Ambulance 'S & S' 1965 58 C DAF Grider truck 1968 60 B Site Hut truck 1966 62 B Commer 'Rentaset TV' 1963 63 C Dodge crane truck 1968 67 A Saladin Armoured car 1959 68 A Austin MKII Radio truck 1959 70 B Ford Grit spreader 1966 71 A Austin Military water truck 1959 71 C Ford 'N' series tow truck 1968 74 B Mobile refreshment bar 1959

Dear Sirs:
As Hot Wheels debuted in 1968, their free-rolling carachteristics took the hobby by storm and Matchbox who was the leader at the time reacted accordingly by introducing the Superfast series by 1970. Matchbox started with the all-known 1/75 series, but by the 1960's other series were introduced and these included the Yesteryears ( and most collectors groaned about the fact that these were not on an uniform scale),the brief lasting Major Packs and the King Size (meaning major scale). In all, even at these series an ocasional 1/87 model will be offered.
At this period another change occured: the US and ROW (Rest of the World) series. Later,it will be the case that such things as British,German and so on were separate series. These local offerings were not the rule by this period, and ended as Mattel bought Matchbox, but ROW and US series still exists. On the list below, local (German,Australian) will be not reported because they were the same as the 1-75 series but had different numbers and graphics. At the twin Pack series,1/64 vehicles were paired with 1/87; hence, unless the all combination is 1/87,these will be not reported, either.
It is interesting to notice that some trucks such as their Kenworth and Peterbilt were at the 1/80 or 1/82 scales and other rigs approached 1/90.Hence,the list below is mostly a judgement call for the ones I did not own and the real article for the ones that I own.
Hence:
Matchbox,Superfast years:1970-1982.
1-75 series.
1 F Mercedes Benz truck 1970 2 E Trailer for Mercedes Benz truck 1970 4 E Dodge Stake truck 1970 7 D Ford refuse truck (1/84) 1970 10 E Leyland pipe truck 1970 11 E Mercedes-Benz Scaffold truck 1970 13 E Dodge tow truck 'BP' 1970 13 G Chevrolet Snorkel truck 1977 This model has the right lenght for 1/87,but is is too wide. Matchbox would do that now and then. 14 H Leyland Tanker 1982 (ROW) 17 E AEC Ergomatic Horse truck 21 E Foden Concrete truck 1970 26 D GMC tipper 1970 26 H Volvo Cable truck 1982 (ROW) 29 F Tractor Shovel 1976 30 G Leyland articulated truck 1981 The cab is all right; the trailer is too short. Suitable for a double trailer. 32 D Leyland tanker 1970 35 C Merrywheater Fire Engine 1970 1/88 35 E Volvo Zoo truck 1982 (ROW) 36 G S & D refuse truck 1980 37 E Dodge Cattle truck 1970 with a couple of cows 40 E Bedford Horse box 1977 42 F Mercedes-Benz container truck 1977 44 D GMC refrigerator truck 1970 47 D DAF container truck 1970 48 F Sambron Jacklift 1977 51 D AEC Ergomatic eight-wheel tipper 1970 one if the few models with this wheel combination 54 F Winnebago mobile home 1980 also avaliable as a NASA RV and Fire Vehicle 57 E Eccles Caravan 1970 58 D DAF Girder truck 1970 60 C Leyland site truck 1970 63 D Dodge Crane truck 1970 63 H Merrywheater Snorkel, open cab 1982 1/88 64 F CAT Bulldozer 1979 71 D Ford 'N' series tow truck 1970 71 F Dodge Cattle truck 1976 with two cows 72 F Bomag road roller 1979 72 G Dodge Container truck 1982 (ROW)
Twin Pack series: TP 1A Mercedes-Benz rigid truck with trailer 1976 TP 2C Mercedes-Benz tanker 'Exxon' 1981 TP 15A Mercedes-Benz rigid truck with trailer;military version 1977 TP 19 A Dodge rigid truck with trailer; cattle carrier 1979 TP 22 A 1 Kenworth with flatbed trailer and double containers 'OCL' 1979 TP 22 A 8 K enworth with flatbed trailer and double container 'Sea Land' 1979 TP 22 A 10 Kenworth with flatbed trailer and double conatiner 'NYK' 1979 TP 23 A 2 Kenworth with covered stake trailer 'Firestone' TP 24 A 1 Kenworth with van trailer 'Firestone' 1979 TP 24 A 3 Kenworth with van trailer 'Matchbox' 1979 TP 25 A Kenworth with flatbed trailer and pipes 1979 TP 26 A Mercedes-Benz with flatbed trailer and Boat 1981
It is interesting to notice that some of the vehicles listed are similar from the previous thread. The difference lies at the type of wheels; hence,a say, Dodge truck with black plastic wheels is considered different than the one that has superfast wheels (and the number will go: 4 D for the one with plastic black wheels and 4 E for the one with superfast wheels).
On the twin packs, the years reported refers when this casting was introduced. I can not find a single reference that lists the year when certain livery came out. Since this ends in 1982,the particular livery may been introduced between, say 1979 and 1982 (eg- the Kenworth Container truck, Notice that it starts as TP 22 A 1 and the final number comes as far as 10).
Final note: this is a partial report. All the circa 1/87 models were reported so far my references are comcerned but not all of the liveries of a particular truck, van and so on.And, by now,Matchbox was a company that had several series of models and it would get huge by the next period: the Universal years (1983-1992).

It is interesting to note that the Matchbox Scammell Snowplow RW-16C was used as the casting master by Puget Sound Casting Services and marketed as a Reo in 1-87.

Dear Sirs:
The Universal period (1983-1992) from Matchbox was similar to Lesney's - the lines were varied and concessions existed even for the Yesteryears. This because since the 1980's,classic car models from before WWII were atracting less and less colectors; muscle cars were getting it.
Huge is how can be described the range of lines that were introduced at this period. Not only vehicles but other kind of toys as well. Of course, everything was oriented around the 1-75 series, but Convoy - a range of semi-trailer miniatures - were getting quite popular and it was treated as Winross and the soon to come Hartoy/Penjoy: trucks that were brand oriented. Since the list of the truck liveries is quite large, it will be divided in fases. Again, the Kenworths and Pets approached the 1/80 scale; the Mack CH600,Ford Aeromax and Scania T142 (and this is an Australian version: 'roo-bar' up front and it is RHD) are sized as their Herpa or Con-Cor counterparts; same thing with the DAF cabover. The problem may reside with the trailers: they seem too small; a realistic one from A-Line looks good with these tractors. The 1-75 range offered less 1/87 like models. Again, their Ford or Chevrolet offerings are right lenghtwise, but not so at their widht.
Other ranges that may include 1/87 scale cars are the twin pack and other set assortments. Of course, their 1/90 models that included the Ford LTD police car are from this period and all the liveries that say,a Dodge truck came with will not be listed. Also,ROW (Rest Of the World) car series got hold at this period. That means that say,in the US, the Ford LTD police car may be listed at #16,but it is #54 rat the ROW range (same livery); some new vehicles may be exclusive part of this range as it was the #1 Jaguar XJ6 police car (while in the US that number was reserved for the Dodge Challenger). At the same time, Germany and the UK had also their own car numeration that differed from ROW or US range but no exclusive vehicles except for commercial ones: they had logos for businesses from these countries. And that was not enough: there were sets for Australia,Germany,Spain,Ireland,Canada,Saudi Arabia and other countries while there were such things as Brazilian,Bulgarian,Russian or Hungarian Matchboxes. The only vehicles listed will be from ROW or US range.
Matchbox also bought Dinky name back.At first,it was a series of 1-75 models with the Dinky logo; later these graduated to a range of 1/43 scale cars including a very scarce 1/50 scale Mercedes O3500 bus. At the Convoy range it will be the same as the twin packs but the vehicles will be differently listed.Below there is an example how this will happen:
CY 01 A Tractor: Daf Trailer: Van type, with the following logos:
And so it goes.It is interesting to notice that my Convoy reference gives details about the logo position on the trailer, specific colors or country or manufacture. This will be avoided: the specific logo that comes with a specific tractor will be mentioned only once; hence one will notice gaps in the numberation.
Now that all this been explained, the listings will follow next thread, starting with the 1-75 range and then the convoys, which will be separated by four fases. Next, anything else.

I have some doubt about the Mini-Buby cars being in 1-87 scale. The seller list all his Matchbox collectibles as 1-87. But what really makes me think is this outtake from the Buby models history: As Argentina was still a prosperous country during the sixties, Buby had a succesfull decade. But at the end of the sixties, the cheaper 1/64 models from Matchbox and other competitors were fading the market share for the 1/40 models of the company. In 1968 , the first " Mini Buby" models were released. In the beginning, just were 4 models made in plastic, like the first Siku models, and they are deived from 1/40 catalogue: Chrysler Valiant, '62 Ford Falcon and Fiat 600 and 1500. Very quickly, these plastic models were replaced by die-cast models, called now " Serie 10 " , being the Valiant the only model that not remained in production. Another ebay seller described the Fiat 600 with a lenght of 5 cm. I think these models are about 1-64 scale. BTW, I found an ended auction on another Valiant on mercadolibre.com. Ending price at $ 185! www.mercadolibre.com.ar/jm/item?site=MLA&id=13501629

Dear Sirs:
I went 'hunting' today and I just saw it: Jada Toys tractor/trailer trucks in circa 1/100. These seem to be racer transportes and the tractor is a Kenworth (older and newer models). As it was statred on other thread, and as it happened in the past, large toy or model companies are molding a piece or two in 1/87 scale. The newer Kenworth from Jada Toys is very well done.

Dear Sirs: Well, there is after an extensive program of 'search and search again': the Matchbox Convoy listings. After the Superfast years, not a good amount of 1/87 castings came out at the 1-75 range. It is worthed to notice that by 2000 an International 4-door fire engine was molded;as compared with the Boley unit,it is too short (in order to fit at the blisterpack) but the the Matchbox version is wide as the Boley unit. Also, from the several 'generic' castings at the Mattel era,one of these - the glass truck - was converted to an Isuzu truck by the 1/87 scale club. I also got a Motormax Ford F650 utility truck, compatible with HO (see new purchases) at that seems a copy of the Matchbox version. I can say that the Matchbox Convoy series is fascinating because it is similar to the offerings of Winross or Hartoy: their models are sponsored by the trucking companies and these are real promos,if not anithing else and most to the models are destined to the company that is labeled at the side of the truck. I know for a fact that the DAF UPS semi was distributed by UPS only;one could not get it anyplace else.As it is always the case,I got my at eBay but this is not an everyday happening.Mattel is still modeling the Convoy series. Lucky Markets became Albertsons; Matchbox offered a semi with the markings of the former.another difficult to come out is the one from Safeway Markets. The list will cover the number followed by a CY,and there was an extensive number of different logos,a number and the logo name below the truck type and year of its release. If entry 1 and 9 had the same logo, the latter will be ommited (it is the case when the same truck had the same logo yet there were differences in casting). If there is only one truck on a series, then it will go as CY-22-A1 and the rest of the description. Matchbox also modeled Kenworth Cabover and Conventionals plus Peterbilt at the same fashion.Simce these were 1/80 scale, these will not be mentioned. There is a Grove Crane also, and I assumed that this an HO; a question mark will be laid besides it. Finally, the year of release of a series will be followed by a - ,meaning that this series kept going beyond its year of introduction. The list is a combination of regular Convoy,Local markets (such as Australia,Germany, etc.) and ROW. Here is the list, part one: CY-2-A1 Kenworth T2000 rocket transporter 1999- CY-4-B1 Scania box truck 'Ansett' 1985- CY-7-B Ford Aeromax gas tanker 1988- 1. 'Exxon' 2. Dear Sirs: The Matchbox series continues below. It is interesting to notice that while the offerings of Winross and Penjoy are restricted to the American Market, Matchbox offerings offered graphics of trucking companies from the USA and Europe alongside the major brands that one knows, plus racing - related trailers; on my opinion, this is the reason why this series is so sucessful. The only problem may reside at their size: they seem around 1/90 scale, but I could be wrong. Below, the second listing of these trucks: CY21 A DAF Aircraft transporter 1987- 1. Dear Sirs:
This weekend I discovered an old catalog that I had around my apartment and this give another Cox list besides the one that I gave above; it is a tad more thorough, and may be a complete one. As I understand,Cox produced rail and related equipment for a very short while; I am not sure.
The list - as far as road vehicles are concerned - is given below:
These trucks belong to sets:
6038 and 6039 truck & trailer with 2 lumber loads 6041 truck and trailer with 2 lumber loads and truck and trailer with two logs. 6083,6085 truck and flatbed trailer
These come separately:
6222-6 flatbed truck with logs 6231-6 flatbed truck with lumber loads 6231 Truck and van set 6234-3 Lumber carrier with lumber load.
These come with a rail wagon:
6150-5 flat car with road grader. 6151-2 half box car with racer (Championship train).
I also know of the existence of a military tank; yet it is not listed at that catalog and I do not know its number.
Published at the 1980's, that were a series of books which listed HO locomotives that are avaliable at certain year. I found this book at a library - but only one volume - and the Cox unit is shown there. The book was from the late 1970's, if my memory is not failing me. I even do not know if that publication still exists and again, if my memory is not playing tricks,it was from Germany.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe I had a slotcar ( Chevrolet Cheetah in another scale 1/43?) that was made by Cox when I was a kid.
