Dear Sirs:
On terms of military vehicles, two manufacturers produce a good amount of these-Roco and Trident. The latter also offers kits.Models of US,German,French and UK tanks,Transporters and other vehicles are offered. Also there is miniatures of the Willys,AMG,Peugeot,Volkswagen,DKW jeep-type vehicles. On terms of kits, there is this Czeck manufacturer who offers models of ZIL,ZIS,Ural,UAZ and GAZ military transporters and Jeeps or tanks.Czeck prototytipes are also molded. On the diecast range,Zee Toys were on the most prolyfic,by offering US,German,French,UK,Japan Tanks,Transporters and the Willys Jeep. Some of these were offered as Motormax models as well. These are quite well done, but Roco's vehicles are the ones that have superior quality. There was this American Modeler who offered a Russian Tank.Likewise, there are military vehicles molded by the Russians.

Dear Sirs:
It been established that Wiking has a long history of HO models.Their first models did not have even windows and these were considered 1/90 scale. But in all, their 1955 or 1956 Chevrolet truck had a lot of details, such as suspension, drive axle, interior, etc. Their array of models is also impressive. The first one was the Willys Jeep and that had a good amount of different castings. Also, from these period there is the American Sedan (looks like a 1950 Ford Fordor) and a Horch-looking sedan. There were also the Volkswagens, the bug and the Van (Kombi). Makes modeled included Mercedes ( a good array of these),BMW ( starting with the 501) Opel (1951,1954 Kapitain,1951 Olympia,1953 Rekord),DKW coupe and,to my big surprise, the 4-door sedan and also the Wagon;Porsche 356 with the Split window at the beggining.Eventually, the Kaiser Jeep came along,as well as the Jaguar Sport (I believe that this is the XK120),the Lloyd and Goliath Coupe and the Borgward Hansa.Modern cars include the Volkswagen 411,1500,Variant and Passat and some of the current Volkswagens,BMWs,Opels and Mercedes. As stated, their range is extensive. Also vehicles such as the Volkswagen K70 and the first Unimog,Tempo Matador pick-up,Tempo Dreirad,Dkw pick-up were molded as well. Their veteran car range includes Horch,Mercedes,Rolls Royce,Citroen,Borgward,Audi,Tatra,Ford (1949 Taunus)and there were a newer Rolls Royce avaliable.Newer cars form Mercedes,BMW,Audi and Volkswagen are avaliable. This manufacturer offered a good range of vehicles in it history.Next, the trucks and buses.

Dear Sirs:
Dodge,White,Magirus,FIAT,Mercedes L5000 were the first batch of trucks made by Wiking.I am unable to tell what kind of Dodge truck was done by them, but all the others seem right, including the FIAT.A German Ford was offered as well, along with a 1955/1956 Chevrolet,Conventional and Cabover model. Bussing,Henschel,M.A.N.,Mercedes,Krupp were offered as well in several model, body types and trailers. Also, several of these trucks were used as promos for other companies, including Breweries. At this case, the truck is identified by the Company that is being promoted and as a second reference,is stated that is made by Wiking. The other HO manufacturers have similar arrangements. The buses are from Bussing (at least four models, including the Senator) and Mercedes (Several models, including O302 Post Bus). These either have city Transit liveries (such as Berlin) or are used as promos (as explained above). The Unimog was modeled in several generations of the real vehicle, including,I believe, its first one.Tractors and Agricultural equipment can be found in good quantities and some other vehicles such as Boats, trailers, helicopters,Caravans are modeled as well;hence, this manufacturer have a bit of everything for everyone.American cars include the 1964 Chevrolet Chevelle,1957 Continental;trucks the Dodge,Chevrolet,International and a semi tractor (cabover) that is only describe as an American truck (I can not tell what that is). There were vehicles in other scales, and these-the original ones-are scarce items. Some of these were reissued, but on limited numbers. One can say that this manufacturer is a true 1/87 classic, but as always will happen, competition took over its high post.Look at Matchbox.

Dear Sirs:
They are the non-Ho manufacturers.Yet,they managed to offer models the no one bothered to reproduce. The problem with these is the fact that at times, the scale of this cars can approache 1/90 rather that 1/87.Or 1/80.Oh,well,if is unique... Most offerings will be trucks, because a semi-trailer or conventional truck does approach the three inch size. Matchbox had a line of mini-cars,circa 1/90,and the only one that was not reproduced by no one was the circa 1987 Ford LTD Crown Victoria. If one puts one of these against the Busch Version,it is very apparent that the Matchbox version is on the 1/90 scale.Too short, and lower too. Their trucks,on the other hand are more varied:Bedford, circa 1964 Dodge Dump truck.Volvo 'F' Series and one the first Kenworth T2000 was made by them;yet it looks as an 1/90 scale. There are the Pets and Kenworths, but mos of these approach 1/80 scale.Their DAF cabover is nearly 1/87 job. Mattel did offered a Ferrarri 250 in 1/87;also a Ford model 'A' 3-window coupe and panel van plus a circa 1984 Chevy S-10 Blazer on nearly 1/90 Scale.Trucks include a Ford CL series as a wrecker and a LTL with a 'steering' trailer (there is a steering wheel at its trailer;so one can 'manuoever' it around.A GMC General was offered as well. Also, the trash truck that I asked about at the 'question' thread,a Volvo/GMC/White garbage truck completes the HO picture. Majorette kept their 1/87 offerings with buses, such as the so-discussed Saviem Paris bus and Neoplan Highway bus.A Kenworth T600 tractor was also part of their offerings and so was a Bernard that was offered as a semi-trailer and conventional truck. Finally,a Renault Cabover truck is avaliable as a garbage truck. In the US,these were also called Macks. They also had a Mercedes Cabover truck. Yatming offered a copy of the Majorette's Semi tractor, was the First one to mold an HO Ford 'C' truck and also had a Peterbilt Cabover and a Ford CL series. The latter was used by Imperial Toys as a semi cab and trailer version. Playart did offered a Scania City bus (at times it was used as an airport shuttle) and a circa 1/100 Scania semi tractor. The most ostanding 1/87 pieces from this company was a set of 3 ALF fire trucks that were offered by model Power as well (some of the Playart cars were offerd on Model Power Packs as well). Zee Toys was a tad more prolific.Light trucks included a Willys Jeep and trailer and a Dodge Pick-up,similar to Roco's.On Highway trucks, there is a Mack Cruiseliner and an International Cabover plus the Pets and Kenworths;there was a construction series and some of their vehicles included bulldozers, tractors and the like. Finally their military tanks includes the Churchill,AMX;American,Russian and Japanese tanks are also inluded.Their sucessor,Motormax are still offering the Zee Toys models. Welly is a newcomer to the HO range, but their Mercedes-Benz Actros semi tractors look good. Realtoy does offer a range of semi trailers in HO,but these can be put on the toy range.Mind you, their vehicles are well done. Maisto did offered two cars, both with a keychain: a Porsche 911 and Lamborghini Countach.Trucks includes the Ford Aeromax,Kenworth T600,S&D garbage truck and a mid-sized Mercedes truck (the last one has to guess it). Plus the one which asked what that is at the 'Questions' Thread. Playing Mantis/Johnny Lightning had the 1957 Chevy Bus,AMX military tank and a Utilimaster Stepvan in several liveries.By 2001.rumour had that this company would launch a series of 1/87 vehicles, but nothing seems to come out of it.Their monopoly series offers two vehicles at their cards;the smaller are suposedly 'N' gauge vehicles. Norev is primarly a 1/43 scale manufacturer, and its 1/87 cars are also well known.Old vehicles include the Peugeot 404,Renault Dauphine,Panhard Coupe.New models include the Renault Kangoo van.And the so-discussed Saviem bus. From the Mini-Jets diecast series there is a series of older Volvo 'F' series with several bodies and liveries and a range of Renault trucks. Bburago offered a series of models with keychains.Nothing special here. Siku had some of their trucks compatible with HO;now this manufacturer is also offering cars.It is normal, since the latter is associated with Wiking. They made 1/55 scale popular. Schuco also offers a line of 1/87 vehicles now.Their interesting one is a Porsche sports car.For years in a row this company had a range of 1/90 scale vehicles and the DKW van was one of these.1/43 and 1/72 scales are also offered by this manufacturer. CMW got to business around 1998 and their first offerings were 1/24 scale cars.By 2000, their 1/87 diecast car debuted.Hudson Hornet,1966 Dodge Charger,Chrysler 300.1948 Ford Wagon,1961 Chevrolet Impala are some of their offerings. The current 1978 Impala and 1967 Ford Custom is one of their current offerings. They also model 'N' gauge vehicles. Smart Toys is a toy manufacturer.Yet,they also offered a range of HO vehicles such as construction equipment,a large dump truck,a Volkswagen Bettle that is offered by Boley now and a semi-trailer that is used to haul heavy construction equipment. The latter was also offered by Boley. Kinsmart is also a toy manufacturer, but they offered a 1995 Chevrolet Caprice in exactly 1/87 that had a little motor. The latter is also offered by Boley;the 'Kinsmart' logo was not removed from the chassi at the Boley offerings. Road Champs is famous now because it modeled the first 1/43 1991 Chevrolet Capice. In the past,it offered a Corvette,Camaro and Datsun Z in 1/87 scale with a motor.Trucks were offered as well;these semi trailers are on the 1/90 scale range and are the usual Kenworth,Peterbilt semi tractors. Motor City is a very high quality 1/43 scale manufacturer that offered a series of pewter-based models.Hudson,Chevrolet were molded.A copy,of,perhaps,Alloy Forms miniatures. Hongwell entered to the 1/87 range with an oustanding Willys Jeep that is offered by Boley. Golden Wheels,as Hongwell, has many connections with other manufacturers; they specialize on the promo field. They offered an ALF,Ahrens Fox (I was informed about the latter) in 1/87.They also launched the IMEX division, and their 1939 Pet and the recent 1950's International tractor are part of their offerings along a Ford F6 truck. Boley by itself started as a toy manufacturer in several scales.By 1999 or so they released their HO line, and these were copies from Busch or Wiking ( Plymouth Fury,Chevrolet 3100 pick-up and Mitsubishi Pajero 4-door),Smart Toys (Volkswagen Bettle,Construction vehicles and a semi-trailer) or Kinsmart ( Chevrolet Caprice with little motor).Their trucks-International or GM-are their doing, and the 2001 International models debuted prior the release of the real models.Fire trucks include models from Seagrave and S & S,plus the International and GMC variants.1/72 vehicles, such as the new GMC pick-up,are offered by this manufacturer.New releases include the Ford LTL truck. Tyco is the well-known slot car manufacturer.Yet,they had a range of Ho cars to fill their trains. The 1968 Camaro,AMC AMX,Dodge 'L' series cabover truck and a Pet Cabover truck were molded by this company. Cox is a manufacturer of trains or large, gasoline powered vehicles.HO vehicles include a Pet Semi tractor,a tank and some construction equipment. Revell, the Plastic model manufacturer released a series of 1961 Chrysler Co.Cars.Monogram did a series of HO's such as Indy Race car,Chevy Lumina Race car.And Lindberg made the ALF fire truck.
And this is not all..................more to come.

Dear Sirs: For a brief amount of time.Minichamps (Paul's models) did offered a range of 1/87 vehicles.A series of racing cars were molded ( Formula and opel Calibra racers.Models of the former do not appear so often in 1/87). It seems that this series sold poorly;hence this HO series was discontinued. The Old Cars company, who mostly models cars and buses on 1/43 scale also did offered some truck units in 1/43. NZG offers trucks and construction equipment in 1/50 scale. An airport bus was molded in 1/87 by them. Norscot is a manufacture of CAT vehicles models, generally on large scales.1/87 vehicles are being offered as well.High quality casting. Tomy or Tomica is a toy manufacturer. However, one of the few AEC Routemaster buses was molded in 1/87 by them; a circa 1/90 Volvo artic bus is also part of their roster.A Mazda Minibus and a Nissan Cabover truck is also part of their offerings. Lledo offers vehicles on several scales, including 1/43.Due to any reason, their buses are 1/87 and these are AEC's or the recent Bristol Lodekka Double Decker City Bus.They also molded a GMC Scenicruiser but it measures to 35 feet. That never happened in real life, because GM used this bus in order to convince the transportation authorities about the benefits of a 40 foot vehicle. In the end, they won and all Scenicruisers were 40 footers (12 meters). Some french companies such as Minialuxe did offered HO vehicles-most french prototypes.
The number of 1/87 ( or 1/90) scale vehicles made by non-Ho companies are quite large and by all means the above listings are not complete. Surprise manufacturing can still be forthcoming and the biggest selection are in the commercial vehicle range.

Dear Sirs:
The number of the SUV's in 1/87 may not be this outstanding, but at this scale, variety is the key, specially if the pick-ups and light trucks are added.
Trident supply the Chevrolet SUV's: the Van,Pick-up and Suburban. The latest-and very delayed-is the circa 1995 Ford Crew Cab pick-up.I will not add the military types that are avaliable as kits. Busch offers the (S-10 type) Blazer-claimed as 1995 and 1997 model years. As I read, their Chevrolet 3100 pick-up is very sucessful and it is offered in several variations ( and was copied by Boley). The Blazer is also offered by Williams,as a kit. Check the full-size, 2-door Blazer that is offered by Kibri. Ford products are not that badly represented. An Explorer is offered-as a kit-from Williams. The 1956 pick-up is also avaliable by the latter.Varney gave us the 1948 F1 pick-up and panel van;Alloy forms has the 1951 panel van and 1956 pick-up.A circa 1979 pick-up is offered by Life-Like and they too did not forgot the 1956 pick-up. No Excursions, but the Expedition was molded by Walthers.Other Fords include the 1940 pick-up made by Dyna Wheels and Magnuson and Ford Model light trucks made by Jordan and Campbell (Weston division;offers a Ford 'T' pick-up). The Ford Bronco was molded by BS Design. Japenese offerings includes the Mitsubishi Pajero (2-door by Rietze and 4-door by Wiking) and a Mitsubishi-not Toyota as I thought- crew cab pick-up by New Ray. Simple model, but one could give it a lot of detail and its picture is elsewhere at this messageboard. The Toyota Land Cruiser from Busch is an welcome addition to the SUV/Pick-up scene. The Mercedes 'G' type wagon is also molded as a Puch by Herpa. There are ohers, such as the model 'A'. Dodge is represented by the circa 1975 model Pick-up by Roco and Zee Toys. The current RAM pick-up was molded in diecast by ERTL and as kit by C&D. I also understand that there is a resin model of the current RAM crew cab (not bad!) Roco also molds the Peugeot 'Jeep' Type and Volkswagen Iltis.....oops,I forgot.Military models. But now you know. There is a non-military version of the UAZ Jeep and an Eastern European (I do not know the make;I have it) Jeep Type Vehicle. An wishful addition: the Shangai Jeep. Hey,it may happen! Oh,yes and now we will go for the most fundamental of the SUV's: the Jeep itself. The Willys version was one the first models offered by Wiking.Zee Toys,Matchbox and the Hongwell-made Boley molded this vehicle, too. The Kaiser version is offered by EKO,while the AMC version was offered by Roco. The Gladiator pick-up is avaliable assembled or as a kit by N.J. International. The Gran Cherokee is a Herpa product, and a show-car Jeep-the Dakar-was molded by New Ray.The Station wagon was offered by EKO and Bachmann ( the latter was-weakly,as I was told-powered model).Promotex molded another model of it. The little known FC cabover series pick-up ( Mula) was offered by EKO; Anguplas did offered the EKO versions as well. I was told that the Aro-Roumanian SUV-never saw the light of the day.Hm. The DKW had its Munga;Roco has a semi-civilian (Fire vehicle) Version of it.Its cabover,pick-up version was both offered by Wiking and EKO.Wiking had a Tempo-Matador pick-up. From Volkswagen, the Touareg is avaliable by Wiking. So is the 181 ( the thing) type. BMW's X5 is a Herpa product. Nissan Patrol is molded-as a kit-by BS Design. Land Rovers were offered by Wiking and EKO (2-door version;EKO's is open) and EKO molded its 4-door version.Range Rovers are offered by Herpa. New item:Greg's Garage 1949 Studebaker Pick-up. I love these..........to me,their trucks were good looking,too...................... I also avoided the car-derivated pick-ups.Hence,no el Caminos,Rancheros,Greg's Garage's Hudson pick-up and any Australian UTE that may be rendered by Weico. Or the Skoda pick-up by Igra. That may just cover it.No: Durangos,Liberties,Escapes,Rav4's,4Runners,X-Terras.

Trident supply the Chevrolet SUV's: the Van, Pick-up and Suburban. Trident also made the large K5 Blazer used by other manufacturers. The S/10 Blazer was basically the same through 1998, which was the last year Busch offered. Grille treatments were the primary differences. Don't forget the 1997 F-150 SuperCab made by Atlas and the 1951 Panel Delivery made by CMW. Rietze offers both 2-door and 4-door versions of the Pajero. There was also the little Suzuki SJ410. The Mercedes Geländewagen is also offered by as a Puch and Peugeot P4 by Roco (as you mentioned) and in various versions by Herpa and Wiking. There were civilian sales of the P4. The Roco M880 model is based on a 1977 Dodge W200 pickup. A few Iltis (Iltises? Iltii?) can be found in civilian hands. After the German Army switched to the Geländewagen, VW sold the Iltis tooling to Bombardier in Canada. The Canadian Army adopted the Iltis. Some surplus Iltis vehicles were sold to civilians. Matchbox also offered a version of the Gladiator pickup (more OO that HO, however). Roco offers the Willys M1/Ford GPW version, which can be converted to some of the early civilian "CJ" versions. The Roco "civilian version" is an M38A1. The real CJ5 had different cutouts in the side for doors. Incidentally, the CJ5 and FC-150 well also "Kaiser" products. Maybe in model form; it's been around for years in reality and a company in the southern U.S. has been saying they were going to import them under the name "Crosslander" for about three years. The MUNGA was sold in civilian form as the "Cross-Country" in a number of countries, including the U.S.A. The Porsche Cayenne and BMW X3 are also made by Herpa. A promotional version is available from Nissan. Roco also offered a Land Rover model as part of its Miniaturmodelle line.

Dear Bill:
Some few points:
1.The above list is by far not complete.Thank you for the additions. It reinforces my saying about variety of SUV's in this scale. 2.What I meant about the ARO was model form.It was listed by Berolina, but I was informed that the manufacturer never molded it.ARO's are also built in Brazil and Portugal (Portaro).
3.Matchbox's gladiator is 1/76 scale. 4.The Mungas and Iltisses that I refered to were the model form only.Unless you know otherwise,I only know of Military or public service models of these.Incidentally, the Munga-and it was called a Candango-was built in Brazil for a very brief amount of time. And I forgot again: the Matchbox,Hongwell-Boley,Wiking,Zee Toys versions are military vehicles-the models,I mean.Hm!
5.Busch identifies their Blazer as 1995 and ooooops.....1998 models;I followed accordingly on my list input. 6.Bruder also offered the 2-door Mercedes-Benz 'G' series. It is a 'simple' model.
7.The entrance of the Jeep CJ5 is narrower than the CJ7-and the entrance shape of the latter is more 'squarer' as opposed to its predecessor.Suposedly, the CJ7 was a tad longer in order to be more stable.
Thank you very much for the input.I am trying to identify that East European Jeep that I have, but unfortunately I can not post no photos. That one is a civilian version; painted red.
Another interesting project: New Zealand's Trekka Jeep.

Dear Sirs:
American cars in 1/87. Hitting the basics, one should list what is not avaliable in this scale-from the major manufacturers-and the results will be several from the 1920's,1970's to the present, allowing conversions and cottage industry to fill the gaps. What is avaliable is fascinating because one can get samples of the better known models and some oddities as well.Manufacturers such as Alloy Forms,CMW,Gregg's Garage and Stoney Mountain gave many samples of the 1930-1960 cars;Busch gave these too, along with some vehicles from the 1970's,1980's and 1990's and there always the small manufacturer, and as Joe,the cottage industry.Sure, there are not any Chevy Cavaliers or Berettas in there but these can always be converted from something else. And there are Studebakers,Hudsons,Packards and Nashes up there-even Kaiser's Henry Jr or Nash Ramblers! No bad,eh? In all,one may not find the current Malibu,Bonneville,Aurora but there are Neons, the newer Chrysler 300's (altough these are keychain models). As it was explained,a car like the Bonneville or the Camri is not used by the public agencies;hence its use is very limited On the next post, let's see what is avaliable from the major manufacturers and some of the small ones, too.

At all one thing was noticed:no 1910's,1920's Chevrolets.Very few from the 1930's,1940's and very few from the 1980's and 1990's.I remember a kit manufacturer who molded a line of 1920's Chevrolets, but this I let to the other members to say if that is right.
