Dear Sirs:
This movie will come out on October 8th, but I already got its poster. It is called TAXI and features a very souped up Crown Vic. I will see that; I do not go to the movies that often unless the right vehicle shows up.

Ah Yes, just found it. It's a remake, in New-York instead of Marseille and with a yellow Crown Vic instead a white 406 Peugeot.

The first TAXI was a fantabulous movie, especially the insane scooter tricks in the beginning.
Here in the US, "French cinema" has a certain cerebral air about it - TAXI was quite a surprise!
The 406 would be extremely easy to make, its even the same colour as the Herpa 406 Touring version.

Dear Sirs:
I saw yesterday the final installaments of the original Men In Black. Good trickery to that Ford LTD Crown Victoria.
Jack told me that he cam model both: the Vic from TAXI and the LTD (using the 1/64 Matchbox piece) from Men In Black. To be seen.

Dear Sirs:
I just saw my favorite movies: Speed. Some details below:
1. It debuted in 1994, and it was big with the movie viewers. It is interesting to notice that when its script was viewed, it was considered a dull movie at best.
2.Its main carachter is a Canadian GM bus. This fits well, because Santa Monica was the last authority who got the final of the TDH/T/fishbowl series.Accordingly, when Keanu Reeves jumps from the Jaguar towards the Bus, the GM nameplate close to the door is highly visible.
3. Dennis Hopper is quite known; this movie made superstars out of Keanu Reeves (Jack Traves) - of the Matrix trilogy fame - and Sandra Bullock (Annie) - of Demolition Man,the Net fame.
4. The producers actually ran out the money while filming, but they managed to get it done.
5. 12 buses were used at this flick. Two were blown (and what scene that was!), one had the hydraulics that permited it to travel on two wheels, and other was used at (50-foot?) jump. Others were used for exterior shots, and one bus had a front end modified for the cameramen (it had a compartment added to the front end, so it they could film all the shots needed for the driver - Bullock - and the interior of the vehicle. Incidentally, the actress did not drove it; a driver locked at the roof of the modified bus did so.
6.Incidentally, the bus which blows at the beggining of the movie was not a GMC TDH; it was a Grumman-Flexble 870. When it debuted in the early 1980's, it was a new bus, and it was discovered -quickly - that the frame had serious problems. SCRTD and NY bus got rid of them quite quickly because,as they stated, they were not safe for the pothole-ridden streets of either New York or Los Angeles. Its replacement, the Flxible Metro, in 1981, came without this problems and remained in production until the late 1990's.
7. The jump was like this: more than 50 feet, at a height of twenty feet. As a precaution, the driver was at the center of the vehicle and it seat was on 'suspended' position. As the scene shows, the rear end is pratically hitting the ground. Also,as it landed, a tire blew and there was body damage at the rear (remember, 18 tons are landing). Special effects completed the 'ilusion' of the jump.
8. Keanu Reeves made most of his own stunts at this movie, from jumping from that Jaguar convertible towards the bus, at the elevator shaft, under the bus and at the fight with Dennis Hopper at the top of the Subway car. Special effects were required for the latter stunt.
9. Other vehicles included: Keanu's vehicle at the movie was a circe 1969 Ford Bronco (the original Ford Bronco); and circa 1982 rear -drive Oldsmobile sedan, white one, appears at Freeway and street shots; same thing can be said about a Lincoln Town car of the same color. When Reeves is driving this gentleman's Jaguat XJS convertible is followed by a blue Ford Taurus (then you know: he asks the owner: do you have insurance? The owner goes: why? And Keanu opens the door, brakes hard and lets the bus 'run over the bus'. Cars that were hit included a Nissan/Datsun 280.a good amount of 'parked' cars at a freeway off-ramp (including a Ford Pinto and a Chrysler from the 1960's and a 1980's GM Station Wagon).a Ford Taurus and Tempo,a pontiac GTO and a Crown Vic Cop car. Also,a Oldsmobile fastback from the 1970' shows up at the Western ave shot and Hollywood Blvd,at the end of the movie.
Police cars included Crown Vics - these were the majority - Caprices, a Dodge Diplomat unmarked car at the Downtown scene, and at least one Ford Taurus black and white.
Other vehicles included a GMC semi truck and flatbed trailer (when they were at the 105 freeway) and airport support vehicles (when the bus blows). Also,a special airport bus shows up -MAN maybe? - when the passengers were transfered from the City bus to the latter vehicle. And - that one for the bus enthusiast - a GMC RTS bus, 8000 series from SCRTD. There are more, you know.
10. Miniatures were also heavyly used. The final subway scene used these as the subway cars fly off the track; the final scene at Hollywood blvd used a real unit, but that particular filming required a good amount of trickery as well. The elevator that fall with the hostage also required miniaturization.
11. The bus stop reads Santa Monica Intercity Bus; in reality it should read Santa Monica Municipal Bus Lines; the schedules shown at one shot are accurate. About the fleet number -2525 - that is innacurate as well.
12. When this movie was shown for the first time at network tv, one of the real buses were being given away provided one could be answered at the phone number given at the screen. This woman won it, but she was unable to keep it.
13. That is based on the movie comments outlined at this movie book:
Speed: ..... and it defined action movies, good movie,et all...............
Speed II: BOMB......
Yes,that were a second Speed movie, and that included a boat instead of a bus, and Keanu did not came back, but Bullock did.
14. The theme song from the movie received an Oscar.

In 1970, an absolutely beautiful French actress by the name of Genevieve Gilles starred in a movie called "Hello, Goodbye". A terrifically inane movie about an ex English garage mechanic that woos the wife of a French baron whom collects rare and expensive cars. Bad plot and worse acting but the automobiles in this movie are fantastic. The male lead drives a Mini and the Baron collector has vintage DeLahaye and Mercedes, etc. as well as modern for the day cars like the Lamborghini Muira. Worth the watch just to see the cars.

Dear Sirs:
Goldfinger - James Bond #3 - is interesting because it features the Aston Martin that would get on cinematic history. Likewise, it is also the first movie ever to feature the Ford Mustang. This is like to say that the Mustang started its movie career with Goldfinger. The Villain's Rolls Royce is also an interesting piece, and the International Loadstar that show up when Fort Knox is being raided was pratically a new model then. Oh yes, there is the Lincoln Continental which is crushed, a Ford Ranchero which pick up its remains and Felix Leiter is aboard a Ford Thunderbird, current (for then) model. Some of the villains also chase the Aston with what I think is Mercedes 300 sedan and at the end of the movie another selection of Lincolns can be seen. Oddjob drives Bond with a Ford Wagon and after the Fort Knox attack Leiter is aboard a 1953/54 Ford Station Wagon, military green color. A Dodge Power Wagon carries a laser cannon (!) and Jeep Willys can be spotted at civilian (at Goldfinger's farm) or military forms (at Fort Knox). There are others as well, such a Ford F100 pick-up and more.

Just watched the excellent movie 24 Hour Party People. Only one problem, the films (anti-)hero drives a Peugeot 505 Station Wagon, the face-lifted model, that is nearly ten years too new for some sequences. Sex Pistols certainly did not play their first gig in 1986...
There is also a pimped out Ford Transit (lots of pink teddy) in an important role...

Does anyone remember the Jaguar E-type hearse in Harold and Maude? There is a candidate for a conversion if I ever saw one. Hope no one already mentioned this...

A terrific documentary about the resurrection of a Cuban musical group is called "Buena Vista Social Club". For me personally, the music really shines in this flick but I am struck at the street scenes of Cuba. It is like one stepped back in time by 50 years. All of the vehicles are 40's and 50's American cars. Some in need of help but most are clean and shiny as if new. It would be a real treat to cruise the streets of Havana with a camera, just taking pictures of the cars there.

I'm not sure, but I wonder if I have not read somewhere that some of these old american cars of Cuba have been declared historical monuments.

I have been slowly purchasing pre-1959 American sedans and a smattering of Russian iron, in order to one day build a Cuban diorama. Now I just meed a couple of Citroën Saxos for the tourists to drive around in.
