Still removing dirt Getting a push up the ramp by the skip loader. Notice the number of vehicles in the photo. A well used dumptruck worth modeling. This gives an idea of how deep we are now.

Moving the dirt ramp again......... Putting in more boards in the shoring. The telephoto on my new Cybershot is nothing short of fantastic. The second photo was taken from the same location as the first one. The second photo is of the back wall in the top of the first photo.

Still digging. Note the dump truck being loaded on the way down into the pit. That is so he can make a run at the grade from the bottom instead of doing a standing start.

The augers are gone. The hole is getting deeper. Every truck needs a push to get up the ramp now. The bucket on the little backhoe does turn all the way around, controled from the cab. Here it is sideways:

Doint composite or pan photos can do some strange things. There is only one dump truck on the right of the photo. Also see the second backhoe bucket. ;D we must be getting down to the bottem. The front dump is below the backhoe.

At the start of the day: at the end of the day: Taken from the far corner looking back. The camera is pushed thru a chain link fence and being held over my head so I had a hard time keeping it level.

I went over and talked to the city planners the other day. I was told that the cable placed the the horizontal holes were called soil anchors. The whole of the steel, wood and concrete that formed the retaining barrier are left in place after the construction is finished. No idea what the pipe in the last couple of photos was for. The digging is finished and the building has begun. and a closer view:

In the dead of winter the construction continues with the workers wearing the standard Southern California work uniforms. And for a little closer look...... Putting a prefab foam form on a column. That big black pipe that was put in the ground is for a hydraulic elevator. There is a second one in the far corner. You can see the base of the shaft in the pan photos. The mixer was backing up to the pump that you can see in the left of the pan shots.

OK, the bottom floor is dry enough to work on. The supports are in place and the forms are being place for the second floor. A big surprise to me is no beams I guess the rebar in the floor will act as the beam. First the over all pan shot from the same corner. Some close up shots taken from down the ways. And another pan shot taken with the camera pushed through a chain link fence.

Now we are putting down the re-bar for the second level of the garage. Where I would be putting in heavy re-bar, they are putting in some kind of blue tubing. It is light enough that one man can pick it up. I have know idea what it is. The bottom ramp has been poured and the scaffolding is in place for the ramp up to the next level. The dirt ramp is being used as fill behind the retaining walls. No more vehicles in or out of the pit until we reach the ground level with the construction. Looking at it from the front of the project: And from the other side. Note the inset on the right. That will be the ground level opening into the garage. Another shot of the skip loader: And a little roller that is hiding.

Here is the little roller in action. It has a thumper that helps pound the dirt down. Oops! Don't tip over!! Shovels saved the day!
