Well then I will try for some better detail photos for you Chester. Here is a couple of pictures from another construction site that is four blocks away. This shows what is going to happen with the I beams and the treated timbers. Over on the other site there were a couple of pieces of equipment that I couldn't get close to and had to use telephoto to capture them: Here is a pan shoot of the other site. The railing you see at the left and right of the photo is a straight line. Hey Jerry! Wave to the folks.

There is a new toy, I mean piece of equipment, on the job site. This one looks like it would be fun to play with. ;D He is digging out between the I beams so the wood timbers can be put in place. Here you can see the recessed areas for the ladders. They have started putting the timbers in. Break time with the always present roach coach. The big guy is digging at the other end now. These were shot through the front gate. You can see the steel plates with the ribs and the rock that is put in the driveway to keep the roadway even. Of all the various construction sites around town, this one is small enough that I can get good closeup photos of what is going on. The plastic fence is just low enough that I can see over and get pictures. The big one on Brand has high wooden fences and takes up three blocks so getting in good photos is almost impossible.

They are now digging out the third level: My camera decided to go south for the winter so I am now looking for a new camera. Any suggestions?

We seem to be having some problems in that the auger is still in the same side of the site. Here are some closeups. Lots of hoses. I don't know what this does other than it has a diesel engine inside it. I guess it is an air compressor. Here is the cement mixing station And more of the auger itself i53.photobucket.com/albums/g60/leenehlsen/Building%20on%20Broadway/construction10013.jpgThis is the rebar bundle that is going in the hole And a overall pan shot of the construction site My new camera is a Sony DSC T-10. All the photos in this posting were taken from the same spot. Great little telephoto lens. Just wait until you see what it will do on close ups. ;D

Frankly, I've never seen this type of construction. Perhaps these techniques have to do with the care taken to "earthquake proof " there on the west coast. I do know there are some substantial differences in residential construction there from what I've seen elsewhere. Great pics Lee, hope you're having fun with the new camera. By the way, does the newer Sony have a manual f stop?

I have never seen this type of construction either. The methods that we are seeing seem to be uniformly done on all sites. Look at the pictures at the top of page two, which is a different site. Those rods sticking out 2/3s the way up the wall are horizontal wall anchors. The same thing we see being installed here. I hope to capture photos that will make some sense of what we are seeing. To answer Chester's question about f stops. Not by name as we know it. I have a choice of fireworks, snow, beach, hi-speed shutter, landscape, soft snap, twilight portrait, high sensitivity, program (which has five options) and auto (the one I use. ;D) I haven't played with the various choices to see what happens. One great thing about a digital camera is that you can take all the pictures you want without any cost beyond the purchase of the camera.

Having a manual F-stop is nearly indispensable for taking pictures of model cars. I love your composite shots, Lee, I have to figure out how to go about that.

Now they are working on the front wall so I could get some shots of the horizontal auger from a different angle. Boy, is it dirty. ;D I would love to know what this does What they are putting in the holes is four pieces of cable, not re bar, with two PVC pipes. Then a cap plate is added and the cable trimed. I guess the orange paint means that that one is finished. They moved the dirt ramp and are digging down some more.
