See by yourself at SAI: SAI Peugeot 203 Peugeot 505 Peugeot Partner / Citroën Berlingo Saviem JL20 Once again, (after the Porsche 917) I will clean up my stuff and pack everything away.

This 505 appears to be an injection-molded plastic model, not a resin kit as I first thought!
The quality seems on a par with SES and the like.

What do you all see in this 505 Peugeot? For me, it’s one of the dullest cars Peugeot ever made! It's simple, really. While I am very tired of the 203, the 505 is something completely new in our scale, plus, it is a much needed model of the 70s and 80s era. And besides the novelty factor I also like the prototype.

Sorry to say it, but… What do you all see in this 505 Peugeot? For me, it’s one of the dullest cars Peugeot ever made! I must agree with Christian - it's unusual in our scale, and it was a rather common sight on the streets of most European countries. A great addition to any 80's diorama. I lived in Sweden, and I remember being nine years old when the 505 Turbo was introduced in the 180hp model, which I thought was a ridiculous amount of horsepower... I wanted one desperately, compared to the Volvos and Saabs on our streets, this was a very exciting car! Then, ten years later, we moved to the states, where French cars are rare as hen's teeth. I found a 505 Turbo S for sale, my dream car from when I was ten, and bouhgt it right away. Here in America the 505 is rare and interesting, almost nobody knows what it is although other Pug owners will flash their lights at you. It must seem funny to you French, but here the 505 was marketed as an example of "Gallic Charm" and "European Seduction"... and compared to what else was on offer over here at the time, that wasn't too far from the truth!

Dear Sirs:
Since I would like to see the Dodge Diplomat and St Regis graduate to this scale,I welcome cars-even if they are considered dull,as the two above-that were not modeled in 1/87 before and hope that the manufacturers will continue to do that.

Don’t misunderstand me. Any new model on HO scale is good, especially if it has never been reproduced… and even a 505. But I didn’t know this 505 Peugeot was so popular. For me, it was mostly the typical French taxi of the 80’s. By the way, that’s maybe why SAI (mostly interested in model trains stuff) has decided to reproduce that car, as they were common in front of every SNCF Railway Stations in those years. What I would like to know is if this 505 is really SAI product (and that would mean that SAI finally manufactures its own car models, which is not the case today) or if it’s manufactured by someone else for SAI.

Dont worry Sylvain, I know that the 505 is just another taxi/bourgeois sedan - incidentally, the upper class father in the (excellent) film "La vie est une long pleuve tranquille" drives a 505 Break, as an emblem of how sedate and ordered his life is... I find the 305 very interesting too, and that car is even more boring. I think that it may be because nobody saves those boring cars so they all disappear - and then when they're gone we realize just how big of a place they occupied in our lives and streets. And those boring family cars of one country are always exotic to someone else, I know that for at least one member of our board the Renault 12 has a very exciting and exotic African flair. To me myself it is bizarre that the Saab 900 is seen as quirky, eccentric, and different here in the states - in Sweden it is nearly the most pedestrian choice one could imagine.

skunk,
You’re right about "those family boring cars of one country" exotic to someone else. They are always the more typical cars, specific to one country or one period.
I didn’t remember the 505 in "La vie est un long fleuve tranquille" but you’re right again, that’s just the idea! Good film, by the way…

Dear Skunk:
The same applyes to the (larger) american cars.In some countries they were considered as the very 'exotic land barges' or a typical 'american car' and some people out there like them.
The same thing is said about the Camry:boring;yet, people buy that puppy. So,it comes to show that tastes varies from person to person.
I like boring cars, too.Give me a Pontiac full-size sedan from the 1970's at any day.It is,at least,an extinct item that one can see on CHiPs.

I would be quite near Sylvain's opinion about 505 which was a very common car and probably not the best designed in all Peugeot's production ....for myself i prefered much more the 504 , but Pininfarina was behind and I'm not sure that 505 was the same designer origin ? ....the worst designed Peugeot up to me were the 305 and the 304 berline (The coupé and cabriolet was better) Though excellent cars, it's funny to see what image Peugeot could have in sweden compared to Saab or Volvo...but let say that in France, Volvo and Saab have always had luxury image (more than never since the 80's for powerful SAAB....considered at this era as Porsche and other BMW as " yuppie's car") ;D

Pininfarina was credited with the 505, but I wonder how much work he actually did on it? I must say that I am quite surprised at the level of interest in the 505, I thought mine was an unshared passion.

I would be quite near Sylvain's opinion about 505 Jean-Marc, I was waiting for a word from you. I had in mind that the 505 was not considered in France like one of the best Peugeot, but with all this interest from elsewhere ;D , I was beginning to think that I had missed something.

"Non ..Jeff t'es pas seul !..." ; ;D (Jacques Brel's song) ....In fact it's a little bit like if Peugeot 505 have had bigger success at export than in France? ;D...what is refuted I guess by the number of cars selled in France compared to other countries ? ;D ;D....
