Dear Sirs:
Talking about vehicle production,an average of 15,000 Peugeots were sold to the US in the early 1970's.When someone mentions Peugeot to me,the 505 is the first one that comes to my mind.I even knew someone who had a Break/Station Wagon model. This car is just that: an average sedan.By the way: did it ever graduated as a cop car?
( A yes or no answer will do.More details could be added to Police Cars thread).

The 505 has been used as a police car, a fire car, ambulance and even rally-raid car. To know more about it, just search for " Dangel 505 " on google / images.

Looking at the small picture in SAIs catalog I think the 505 is a resin model. It will also be available as a kit, which supports that theory ...

Ah Ah Ah Ah!. ;D ;D..Sylvain!!!! That's exactly what I thought ;D ;D ;D....and as you can see the subject is not fading away!. ;D ;D..so I assume we have to review our opinions and consider the right place of the 505 in the "collective memory" of car lovers all over the world! ...In a way, I will definetively have another look in my mind about this car!... Nick, I' m really surprised about the number of 505 sold in the US during the time of its production!. .are you sure the 15000 models aren't the total of Peugeot sales during the 70's? ;D....Sorry about this, but as you mentionned sales in "early 70's" and as you know the 505 started in 1978...I feel like to call into question? ...but I may be wrong! ...Of course, 15000 cars is "epsilon" compared to the tenth of millions of vehicles sold in USA in the meanwhile...! ;D What I remember is the sale of 600 Peugeot 505 to NYC taxis in 1979 or 1980 maybe? ....(I've already mentionned this) but I didn't know that the 505 had been dealed to US in that proportion. About the Estate/Break/SW versions...I would add to Olivier's list some interesting versions of Dangel 4x4 PEUGEOT 505 in EDF GDF SERVICES blue delivery (Electricité De France/Gaz De France)...national public company (still, but for how long time?... )...

Dear JeanMarc:
These figures are given by the 'Standard Catalog of Imported cars,1946-1990:
Number of Peugeots sold to the US (when the 505 was avaliable;in the US,it debuted in mid-1980):
1980 12930 1981 16725 1982 14323 1983 15241 1984 20007 1985 15636 1986 14296 1987 9422 1988 6713 1989 6095 1990 4292
The above figures refers to all Peugeots-not only the 505-sold to the US.Most of the time, there were only two models avaliable at this period.

For the early part of the eighties, a few 504 and a very few 604's were sold here (I've only ever seen one US-spec 604, and it was about to be broken for parts... ). 1985-88, Peugeot's lone US offering was the 505, joined by 1989 405's. A couple of thousand more Peugeots were sold in 1991 (2,223 January-July) and then it was no more. Only in the US could you buy a Break/Familiale Turbo, from 86 to 91. The Turbo SW or SW8 as it was known here only came with an automatic. The Pugs are now orphans, quickly disappearing from our roads.

Dear Sirs:
Magazines from the period cited that the Peugeot would not come to the US because the sales came down to these scant units.Indeed, these are a rare sight now;someone I know has the estate/station wagon, but I do not know what is under the bonnet/hood.

More info: the new SAI Peugeots are made in the Czech Republic. Now look at the last paragraphs of the H&K interview at the website. Anyone see a possible relation there?

They're Czech?!?!?
Anyone know of a place where I can get these yet? I hear rumours that they are gonna cost 'round 30 Euros. Ouf!
I am definitely going to make an exact copy of my own 505, with US-spec headlights and HUGE federal bumpers. The headlights suck (60W bulbs give more light) and the bumpers add like 100 kilos to the weight of the car, but I want an accurate copy nonetheless. I'll see if I can get the original color...

As for a source for SAI's Peugeot 505s, Martin Eggersmann in Münster ( www.eggersmann-modellautos.de) lists these for 18 euros a piece (not yet available, though). However, I have mixed feelings about his reliability: His inventory usually is rather low, so he may cancel an order without letting his customer know. The prices are fantastic, and he always charged my credit card only after the models' delivery (with the correct amount) - but still, I prefer to get what I order. Happy hunting! Marc

I agree - don't order there unless you have lots of patience. He offers the Renault Estafette for 22 Euros (official retail 38?) ... let me know when you want anything, Münster is not far from here.

Sylvain just made mention of this site www.lauto-rail.com in the "new models" thread, and when looking closer on some pictures of the new Renault Estafette I came upon this one: train.lauto-rail.com/photos/S_A_I/003531_3.jpgDoes this mean that all of the SAI models of indefinite origin are made by V&V? Maybe V&V can even be persuaded to sell directly to some budding entrepreneur (we are looking at you, Christian )? They may of course have an exclusive contract with SAI. In any case I am glad to see V&V expanding from their hitherto strictly East European portfolio into other neglected areas. Whoopteedoo.

Does this mean that all of the SAI models of indefinite origin are made by V&V? Certainly all of the trucks. I am still wondering about the Peugeots. Maybe V&V can even be persuaded to sell directly to some budding entrepreneur (we are looking at you, Christian )? I don't know, the models are probably exclusive to SAI. In any case I am glad to see V&V expanding from their hitherto strictly East European portfolio into other neglected areas. Whoopteedoo. Well, I am sure that they would do anything if you pay for it.
