I may have briefly mentioned this before. On a diorama message board that is usually dominated by large scale modelers, a gent by the name of Ken Hamilton (I've brought you some of his work here before) has put together somewhat of a challenge to the regulars there that has grown quite a bit. Ken has built a speed shop diorama in 1/87 and asked that folks there build a 1/87 scale vehicle to be presented as entrants in "car show". There is a field next to the garage that will be filled with the efforts of the modelers in a car show format. To date there have been 50 entries and some by folks such as our own Richard Olsen and Clare Gilbert fom Sylvan Scale and myself as well as many on the message board there that have never done anything in 1/87 scale before. The closing date for the Kruise is the end of the month at which time Ken will assemble all of the models for a photo session. Here are some preview shots of the fairgrounds and some of the cars. I look forward to being able to show the final photos when they are available. The back of the speed shop. The registration table has already been set up and T-shirts for the event will be on sale. Some of the early arrivals. And the Kruise sponsor

I was wondering when you were going to mention this event. So far there are over 60 vehicles entered! Richard OLS-O-N (by the way)

Ken's a very talented guy. I have his book "How to Build Creative Dioramas" and the techniques shown produce some great results. Now it seems the police have some interest in one of the entrants as to it's street legal status. And Ken built a bunch of tables for vendors at the show (incredible work for 1/87)

No offense to Ken or to CMW, but I wish it had been a Ricko Charger in that photo of the cops!

Dear All:
It seems that the concepts of dioramas is spreading because, for 2008, Motormax is releasing a series of this items (sorry, not in 1/87, but who knows, if they sell well - I am pretty sure of that - they may do some more for the train folk).
The ideia above is a very good one; I liked what I saw thus far.

I'm in the process of building several car dealerships that will probably end up as dioramas because if I put them on my train layout there won't be any room for the trains.

Sweet! Does one mail the models to Ken, or how does it work? I might let my modded VW DoKa out of my hands for a while, just so that there will be some foreign steel on that lawn...
