I would estimate that in a few weeks, you will be hearing about some new models. Some blanks on my list will be filled in. Oh, and a brand-new model that only one of you knows about will be ready for shipment late next month...

The first Austro Daimlers have already been shipped to Busch. They should be arriving very soon (as in any day now).

BHH's website just listed some of Masterpiece's models for pre-order. Among them was what they called a "modern American walk-in van" in 3 different paint schemes. They don't mention a make or model for the van just that it is suitable for the '60s to the present. The only pictures they have are side view computer renderings showing a generic boxy van. Does anyone have more details or where to find better pics of this vehicle? Thanks.
P.S. This is the first of what I hope to be many posts on this messageboard.

Dear All:
Hm,excellent. Based on the picture I just saw,the Stepvan seems to be either a GMC/Chevrolet or a Grumman version. Good thing, for these are quite common in the road and up to now the only ones avaliable in nearly 1/87 scale were made by Mattel (the front detail on these toys were accurate).
The Jeep is also a good addition. Up to now,is a unique model, albeit it resembles a bit with the Jeep Rescue show Truck, which was rendered in miniature.

Okay guys, time for some answers: The American Walk-In Van is generic; it was designed by Masterpiece. Of course, most walk-in vans are pretty generic as they are aftermarket bodies designed to be mounted on a medium truck frame. The reason the van is generic is that Masterpiece couldn't get anyone to respond when they made inquiries about licensing. So the Masterpiece model is slightly different than other trucks on the market. By the way, Lee, the Walk-In Van was the mystery model; the Airflow was announced at Nuremberg in February. Incidentally, the graphics for the Specter Laundry Van was designed by Atlas, I designed those for the Miracle Bakery Van. The one Atlas is showing was an early version. Here is the latest version. We're thinking of making the "ad" part of the package insert so it can be used as a billboard on a layout. My list isn't as ready to be filled in as I thought. There have been some changes caused by problems getting licensing or reference info. In fact, there some changes being made over the weekend. At this time, there are a lot of American models in the development queue. They range from WWI to vehicles that haven't even been unveiled yet. It's definitely going to be a couple of years before all the models can be produced. Masterpiece is looking into some English cars (no, not Armstrong-Siddley) but it is very difficult. They either get no response, the run-around or demands for outrageous license fees. However, the search goes on... Atlas will be the exclusive distributor for Masterpiece-branded models for the United States, Canada, Great Britain, Australia and New Zealand. Busch is the exclusive distributor of Masterpiece-branded models for Germany, Austria, the Netherlands and Switzerland.

Bill,
Right now, 1/87 is the hottest scale for vehicles and American entries are really hot. Motormax and Reel Rides are doing great covering the 70's and 80's, and Ricko is doing great covering the current period. One era that is getting the short end at least right now is the 90's. Hopefully, in a couple of years we will see a Ford Explorer and second generation Ford Taurus from this era. And how about this, not one Ford Mustang has ever been made from the 1990's as far as I know. I feel the three vehicles mentioned here have strong sales potential if they are quality pieces.

Vito, I agree about the Explorer and the Mustang. Even I would like a model of a white GT 5.0 Mustang. The second generation Taurus? I don't imagine any modelmaker will be interested. I expect that the first generation Taurus will appear sooner, notwithstanding the Williams Bros model.

Now we can start guessing which models they will produce for us! Will it be a really old one like the Lincoln? Or a '60th car? I'd like a real old Vauxhal as well as the '60-'70 models (Victor Cresta) exept the Opel lookalikes. Lotus would be great too. And Wolsley..... I can go on for a while. There is hardly anything in HO yet! ;D ;D Cor.

Skunk,
Let's face it, this hobby can surprise you. Did you ever think that we would have HO scale versions of the AMC Pacer and Gremlin? I never thought that would happen! And Motormax appears to be doing well with these releases. So who knows? Ford is easy to work with and Motormax likes the sedans apparently. Also, Atlas has done a third generation Taurus and for model railroaders many can justify putting 10 on the layout if they come in multiple colors. Maybe Atlas will do the first generation, which would be excellent too.
