Dear Sirs: Hongwell is the manufacturer which is offering a myriad of 1/72 scale vehicles. These are close to 1/87 and the cars from this manufacturer are extremely detailed,as their 1/87 counterparts. It is interesting to note that Shuco is offering the Hongwell models and their own 1/87 series. Some of this: Chevrolet 3100 pick-up;new item;very beautiful model; Jaguar 'S' Series Nissan 'Z' series-the new one Alfa Romeo sedan and Station Wagon Audi sedan ................and the masterpiece: Vw Kombi. That is a very nice item. I am sure that there is more, and most of the models have all the details as an 1/87 one.It is interesting to note that Hongwell also modeled a Willys Jeep, and that is so fantastic that all levers are there-amazing for a 2" model!

I modelled 1:72 for quite a while before I settled in to1:87. I am impressed with Italeri military pieces. I especially like the suspension and drivetrain work they did with the Dodge T series.

Dear Sirs:
According to the latest issue of MAR,1/72 scale is getting quite popular and of course,Hongwell was the one who introduced its modern appearance; the older Shucos and some of the Penny Toys can be considered at this scale.
As it is known already,Schuco and Yatming 1/72 scale cars are manufactured by Hongwell. There are other manufacturers, however.
Below, the Yatming versions,as 2003: Lexus SC 430 Nissan 350 Z Volkswagen W12 Nardo BMW Mini Cooper with painted and plastic headlights Opel Speedster Vauxhal VX220 Audi RS4 BMW E46 M3 Jaguar X-Type Alfa Romeo 156 GTA Alfa Romeo 156 GTA Wagon Alfa Romeo 147 GTA Jaguar S-Type BMW E65 745i
I have some of these and they are very detailed;as 1/87,is a big surprise to see so much detail from such a small car.

Many of the Corgi Jr. pieces are 1-72. I did their Cadillac-Gage V-100 Commando over and it is 1-72 right on.

I like my Hongwell/Schuco Isuzu VehiCROSS due to its rarity as a model. I also bought one of their 280SL's, as I intend to use the rims for another project.
They do, however, remain no more than toys to me.

They do, however, remain no more than toys to me. Dear Sirs: Hm. Well, these are best-sellers and made 1/72 scale grow to leaps and bounds; three years ago,no one would mention about this scale. Further,Hongwell's 1/43 range is a threat to specialists manufacturers suchs a Brooklin because is producing accurate models for a fraction of the price. Other manufacturer,Automaxx-Joy City offered the following: BMW Z8 roadster BMW M3 BMW X5 Mercedes-Benz C Class Mercedes-Benz S Class Mitsubishi Pajero, long wheelbase BMW Mini Cooper As a final remark,Hongwell's BMW sedan in 1/72 is not only short of spetacular, but it also offers a half-lowered window at the front doors. Well, very nice feature,to say the least.

Often we see pieces on ebay that claim to be HO and are actually another scale. A great percentage of these are 1-72 mainly because it is the closest to 1-87 in the popular scales in which models are offered. Many of our 1-87 military gaming brothers frequently mix 1-72 with 1-87 because of a need for a specific vehicle and 1-87 military figures have been pretty sparce U.S. in particular. I began modelling in 1-72 and I compare many of the problems we face in 1-87 because of the size are the same. the whole point of this rant was to prep you for a site in which the fellow super detailed a 1-72 M1-A1 Abrams. Even if you're not into military and /or 1-72, you must see this gentlemans modelling skills: www.buffiesbest.com/models_armor.html

Further,Hongwell's 1/43 range is a threat to specialists manufacturers suchs a Brooklin because is producing accurate models for a fraction of the price. Nick, Sorry, but I can't let this go. You may not earnestly compare high-quality small-series makers and simple, toyi-ish products such as these Hongwell items and treat them for like. Hongwell's or Maisto's 1/43rd scale models may be good value for money, but they are far from overwhelming - and they are meant as mass-merchandised toys rather than aiming at collectors. The quality cannot even go with good large-series makers such as Minichamps or AutoArt, let alone the specialist makers you refer to. Moreover, specialist makers will usually concentrate on the odd prototype the bigger players ignore, so they are on quite different battle-grounds. I would prefer if you took into consideration at which slice of the market you look! Also, the 1/72nd scale market is quite focused on toys - scale toys, but still toys. We are talking 2 euro-models here, sold through mass-merchandise outlets rather than specialized hobby shops. Most of these items will end in children's hands, next to Matchbox, Siku, and Hot Wheels. (I don't argue there isn't a collector's community for items such as these - but it is a smallish share of the market.) Marc S.

Dear Marc:
My reply:
Look closely at their 1/72 BMW.It impresses me that it has the thrid light and the window is halfway down.Toy? This is a question of judgement, becuse,as I said before,at times is dificult to separate toys from models.
Same to their 1/43 Intrepid. That is a jewel - at least for my eyes. If they are toy-ish,as you insist, they have a good-massive,actually- detail for a toy.
And I know that you do not like to hear this, but MAR was the one who stated that the specialist makers are losing to Hongwell, and that their details is,if not for another word, adequate.
As I said: just check closely and without any bias their 1/72 BMW. I do not think that you will change your mind, but may like the amount of details on it.

Nick,
I hope you didn't take any offence from my post, because I certainly did not want to be too harsh. I just couldn't stand that -to my mind- mis-placed comparison.
As for Hongwell and others, I certainly appreciate what they are able to do, especially at the price they demand. I have all of Schuco's and Widea's 1/87th scale die-cast models because they are excellent value for money - and I really like them. Also, I placed orders for everything Ricko will offer in 1/87th scale.
But: Just take a 1/43rd scale Minichamps or AutoArt model in one hand and a Hongwell piece of that scale in the other. You will see, and feel, a difference: that certain something that's hardly covered in words. That's what I am talking about.

Dear Marc:
You were not harsh and this is why I started the toy and models thread;after all,I collect both and trust me,understand about the Minichamps and definvely about Auto Art (they have a 1/64 scale series, you know and I do have all of them; all of the hobby literarture is raving about this series). I did not saw another Hongwell 1/43rds, but in terms of proportion and detailng, their Intrepid is halfway there.
