... matches UPS brown ? I recently found the Plano photo-etch detail set to go with my Walthers UPS van so I can finally build it ! I will need to paint the detailparts ofcourse but somehow the brown plastic the kit is moulded in seems to be too dark and I don't think I should be trying to match that colour Any suggestions ?

UPS will not release information on color or lettering nor do they authorize any copy. As to the color, I have seen a lot of talk in the past with no set answer.

The shirts are a much lighter brown than the trucks as both the picture and actual testify to. Good picture of the truck.

Aaanyway ... I just found a source for seemingly genuine UPS brown (Eric: where the Peugeot spray comes from, too).

I'll knock off a paint chip of a van and mail it to you.
Maybe you want something bigger, like a bumper or so? ;D

Dear Sirs:
By the 1980's,UPS models were unheard of because the company treated its color as a trademark-or so I heard.I got 'Federal Express' Trucks and planes with ease at my collection;UPS vehicles came to it by the early 1990's-and these were models that were approved-and distributed-by UPS at first;later,Walther's had some painted and Unpainted UPS vans; one of these is molded in 1/87 but the owner has to apply the decals to it.
Dear Eric:
If you can-or know you UPS driver-get their gift catalog. Most of the authorized vehicles that were authorized by the company is there. The painted version from Walther is-I think-no longer avaliable.I can not tell if the color is up to the standard.
By the way: did you ever saw the Busch UPS van?

I see those UPS vans almost daily, that is why I thought the kit colour (dark brown) was too dark. I haven't seen the Busch UPS Sprinter yet, but I'll start looking for one, thanks for the tip. Question: didn't Promotex (?) release a Mercedes T2 in 'parcel delivery company brown' last year ?

Here's what I've found sofar: Uniforms: Pantone 0607298 Logo (new): brown UPS0607298 / gold Pantone 123 The 'UPS0607298' makes it looks as if the brown they use is a mix based on Pantone 0607298. No further details yet, but I'll keep digging

Eric,
I was interested to read about your "package car" project as I have such a Walthers model myself. My biggest concern about the colour in which it comes is its flatness, but I agree that it appears to be quite dark. I might try just to cover it with clear coating - once I got the Plano parts, that is.
Almost more of an issue are decals. I will be happy with either the old or the new logo, but is there a manufacturer to do U.S.-style decorations?
By the way, Promotex indeed did a M-B T2 panel van in UPS-brown. Order no. is 6312. There also is Wiking's M-B Sprinter (facelift) panel van Lemke Collection commissioned for a freight-car set.

Marc,
I do not know of any US-style UPS decals, the only set I know of is the one that was (?) made by TL decals. These have the old logo and the European part of the globe but you probably already knew that.

Eric,
Thanks for your help. Truckline's UPS decals have not been listed at their website for a while, and I forgot to ask about these in Dortmund last week. I fear they are sold out. It looks like I have to either make do with the text-only decals that came with the model or stop a UPS van, take photos, and have custom decals made. The second alternative could mean a chance to compare the model's colour with the prototype's...
