Dear All:
As of September 2006,Ford stated that the production of the Police Interceptor will not be interrupted in the near future.Hence,as I see it,that will be around beyond 2010.

Ah, but the question must be asked, "Will Ford be around beyond 2010?" Basically, what this tells me is that Ford doesn't have a corporate clue how to replace the Crown Vic. Or, perhaps closer to the truth, doesn't have the money to develop a replacement.

Dear All: According what I read on Wilkipedia, this is the reality:a big blank as far as the Vic/Marquis replacements are concerned. They even did the dangerous game to replace these with a fwd,but they gave up,for they know that 500/others are just not selling, period!!!

The Five Hundred was not a replacement for the Crown Vic; it was a replacement for the Taurus. Actually, the Five Hundred, Freestyle and the Fusion were intended to replace the Taurus.

Wow. I know what the Five Hundred looks like (easy, it's a large Passat, like an American Skoda Superb), but when I try to recall the other two my mind draws a big blank. This from a person with a usually near encyclopedic knowledge of cars, even the uninteresting ones. I know how to tell a Taurus G from a Taurus GL at a glance, but I have not even the faintest idea of what a Ford Freestyle is. Sounds like a forgettable showcar from the '93 Detroit Auto Show...

Dear Bill: According to Wilkipedia, the Vic's replacament may be called a 500 and this is supposed to be a larger (perhaps rwd) sedan. They are looking at the past, where police units were either Customs or 500.Again,one of the blank propositions which are coming out.My opinion? Leave it alone!!! Nick K Dear Skunk: Freestyle = new minivan from Ford.Myself,I do not remember seeing one. Nick K

Nick,
The Freestar is the minivan. The Freestyle is a crossover based on the Five Hundred.
And, yes, it's pretty forgettable.

Actually, Freefall would probably be most descriptive.

And I even have Maisto's Freestyle from the Transit Authority series.Too equal names,at least on my mind. I already saw (last year) a Magnum Police unit at the streets of Northridge;wonder when I began to see (if ever) the Chargers.

The Chargers don't seem to be hitting California yet; haven't heard of many. They are still being evaluated by a lot of fleets. The Texas DPS just got some and I hear the Houston Police Dept. is going to evaluate them.

I have seen a Charger as an Oakdale, MN police car. That is a St Paul suburb. Mostly they have Chevy Blazers, and one Camero.

The Illinois State Police is running a test fleet of about ten. Cool looking cars, nice to see Mopars patroling the highways again.
I had the opportunity to put one to a test this past summer at a Chicagoland emergency vehicle show. Ed Sanow editor in chief of Law and Order magazine asked me to run one of the Chrysler Group exec's thru the road course in the demo Charger, it was an honor and a blast.

Dear All:
That is the nice feature about the Charger:the Patrol Unit can reach 150 mph,as the Holden Police Versions, while the Vic reaches 130 mph (and is tought that this figure is enough for it).
