The new models mentioned in Wiking's newsletter are certainly nice, but that's it, nice. No revolutions. The wording (unfortunately only in German) of the announcement makes me rise a brow. It would be hard to surpass the amount of self-praise and arrogance ("Only Wiking has the courage to make niche models!" ) displayed in that article.
Sorry guys, I seem to be in the mood of 'bashing' manufacturers, but that's how I see it.

Dear Christian: This is sad, considering that Wiking is such a classic manufacturer.I remember when I started to collect it in 1979 and how each model was so far apart from anyone else..............and a good selection, too. Now,let's see what is new from AWM and Albedo..................................

Anyway, what's so wrong about the Herpa Renault Alpine? It's no Herpa standard, but its also not a standard Herpa. I think a high tech model of this type wouldn't pay. This one would have fitted the I.M.U range for some reasons, so I compare with their other products. If I.M.U had made this model, it wouldn't have been better. It just feels as if this is incontrovertible proof that Herpa cares less about its customers than it does about the companies. It's not that bad of a model, but since they have the ability to do so much better if they chose to, it makes me feel somehow slighted. I think that taking a chance would be good for Herpa. All of this from someone who always chose Herpa over Wiking! Nowadays I am not so sure any longer... Now imagine if they went out on a limb and started a series of "golden age of rally" cars in the correct liveries - they already have the Escort, the Alpine, the Mini... All we need is a Stratos and a Saab 96. And a Sunbeam Lotus. And a Fiat 131. And a Fiat 124 Rally. OK, so maybe all of those won't happen...

Frankly, the only thing magic about these two models is, "Poof! The quality has disappeared!" Never before have I been so close to actually typing 'LOL'. ;D This outsourcing thing doesn't really bother me, employment issues and such aside. I can live with 'Magic' quality - that's not my point of criticism. Also, they are quite capable of producing more than ok models in China, just look at Brekina's Porsche 917. No, what really, physically upsets me is the kind of ignorance Herpa has shown in recent years, peaking with this nearly useless release of two toy cars. At some point in the 90s they just lost it. Before that point they were releasing Fiat Cinquecentos, Jeep Grand Cherokees etc. on a bi-monthly basis. Now we can be glad about a handful of new car models a year. I guess part of that can be explained by Herpa's increasing concentration on the truck model market. A mold for a truck recoups it's investion much quicker than that of a car model simply because they can make more variants of the trucks. On the other hand that has always been like that and still Herpa managed to make interesting automobile models ten years ago. So ... what has changed? And for the sake of on-topicness and a few smiles: www.automobilia.de/enews.htm (although ... only one new transkit?)

It´s nearly the same as last year - the best came first, Busch and Brekina. They take a risk and -I think- they are successful. Wiking, well, I agree with Christian, it´s nice, but were are some new passenger cars (except the Opel Rekord)? And Herpa, it´s only to be sad about, if you compare it with their program some years ago. The AWM news can be seen at www.automodelle.com, there will be only the SAI-Renault Clio as novelty of the passenger cars. The Schuco-news are online (www.schuco.de): A lot of passenger cars, but except the Porsche Carrera GT wellknown from other manufacturers: Why do they do that choose??? At last you can look at www.norev.com under "catalogue" the Citroen C2 and Pluriel are to see in our scale . At least a positive surprise!

The Norevs look really very nice. Meanwhile, it's a shame about the misshapen headlights on the SAI Clio, but I guess that can be fixed.

Dear Sirs: I agree that Busch and Brekina are the best;Norev can do decent models;Rietze has a good amount of Buses and Herpa and Wiking should try harder. But it seems that attending to the big Corporations needs is more profitable.................... Albedo,at least, started on the right note since the beggining:truck models only. www.albedo-modelle.de/indexframe.htm

The 2004 page has just been updated again, AWM, Automobilia, Trident and Wiking news has been added.
I did not add Albedo, as far as I can tell Albedo has no new models but just adds the former Memo models to their line.
Just waiting for Rietze and the smaller manufacturers now.....

The Wiking 'Bobcat' will not be made because of licensing troubles I hear. Strange, considered that they could just have left the name off the model.

No really new models, but I’ve seen today in a model shop two versions of Brekina’s 404 I knew nothing about: Taxi (in black) and French Fire department car (red, warning light on roof). And really fine numerous versions as "Tour de France" cars for SAI, but that’s no news. By the way, did you know that some MFM kits were available in France under SAI name? Good thing, I must say.

Seat Altea by Rietze??? ;D Really nice!! Yeah, but the Vectra GTS is axed and the release of the Citroen C5 is anything but certain. I suspect that the SAI Peugeots will be resin kits ... Sylvain: Were these MFM/SAI models kits or built-ups?

Just read about the SAI news. Wow! That really fits my interests. I didn't know SAI makes their own models.
Skunk, that ralley series you were talking about, I think, that could be a great success. These ralley cars were quite popular in their time. Many collectors grew with up or even were involved in the ralley scene. In Germany there was the popular ADAC cup and severeal hill climbing contests. This would really be a good sign towards the collecting people not only for them who generally collect in 1:87!
