After an absence of two years, I am looking forward to coming back to Europe this coming February for a vacation. I will be in Barcelona and surrounding area and I was wondering if anyone knows of any great hobby shops in that area that carry 1/87th scale vehicle models? Thanks for your help.

Rocafort is in my opinion the best modelshop in Barcelona. Well I was working there two years ago ;D There you have all kind of 1/87 models. Herpa, Rietze, AWM, Wiking... etc etc... even High Tech Models or V&V. They also have a lot of Herpa trucks. Other modelshops in Barcelona: Mabar: www.mabar.es Here you may find some "sold out" models. Aneste, Ibertren. It depends on the day you go there. and "El Palau del tren" which means (The train palace) C/ Diputacio, 216 Barcelona. This one has a lot of Busch, Wiking, Rietze and Brekina models.

Thank you Christian and Albert! I am staying on the Passieg de Gracia in Eixample and from my map, it looks like Rocafort is close by my hotel. I am really looking forward to my trip to Spain. Everytime I come to Europe, I end up almost having to jettison some clothes so that I can fit all the models I have bought in my suitcase! (Doing my best to help the Eurozone economy I am particularly looking forward to seeing the Gaudi architecture and the Gehry Guggenheim in Bilbao. If I have time, I hope to make it to Toulouse and Carcassone as well. And tapas...I can hardly wait.

Mark, if you like Gaudi's architecture, two buildings you should not miss in Barcelona. Start by going to the Casa Milà, also called La Pedrera. Great building, and on the last floor there is a museum about Gaudi's architecture. That's why I think it's best to start by this one. And don't forget to go on the roof! The second one is the Casa Batllo. Really fantastic. Both are on the Passeig de Gràcia. Of course, there are many other Gaudi's buildings in Barcelona, but these two ones!!!! And there are many, many, many other great buildings in Barcelona, but… hem… yes, I know, maybe not the place to talk about it… hem… I wish I could go back there very soon…

I am particularly looking forward to seeing the Gaudi architecture and the Gehry Guggenheim in Bilbao. In Bilbao there was a modelshop called Lugano. I suppouse it is still there. The last time I visit that shop was in November 2000. I bought lots of 1/87 cars. Here you have the address and a mail: C/Jose Maria Escuza ,27 tel/fax: 94 441 88 55 E-Mail: luganolibreria@teleline.es if you like Gaudi's architecture, two buildings you should not miss in Barcelona. Rest assured, you are not alone. I just finished floor plans for my dream house (to be built when I have that dream job...), and I am playing with the idea of making a 1/87 model. Should be fun, but sadly I do not have an H0 scale Aston Martin Vantage V600 to go with it.

(Doing my best to help the Eurozone economy Do like I do (with all my shopping, and sometimes my dirty clothes as well): Mail it all back home! Especially for a backpacker it is hard to carry fifty fragile toy cars around. Wikings also have a tendency to melt in the sun, as I have discovered to my chagrin...
