It took twelve years for me to get the 57 Mercury and Oldsmobile done. What other long completed projects are out there?

Whew, I can't imagine staying with a project that long. The projects that have been most successful for me have been the ones that I stay on until finished. I don't believe I have ever spent more than about 15 hrs. on one (not continuously) from start to finish. If I've let something go more than a month or so, It probably is still sitting in pieces. But I don't claim to have the patience of Job.

Dear Sirs:
Albeit Jack is a tad methodical, I can say that his longer project - in order to research the details of the real vehicle - was the AMG Metropolitan bus that he did to a costumer on late 2002. By this time, there were none on the streets, and info was on the faint side. But one of these was located thanks to a buddy of his. Total time for this project: six and a half months because he also had other - easier - projects to do.

I have been working for 19 months now on a Simca and a Maruti. Neither is anywhere near completion. Of course, my method is to work on a number of projects simultaneously, to overcome my lack of patience (is it ADD? or ADHS to you Germans ;D).
If I don't have the distraction of other cars to work on, then I won't be able to allow for the time for paint to dry, etcetera, and my models would end up looking awful.

I reckon the one for me was a Kibri kit for a Daf 95 tractor and Scheurle low loader trailer which I completed over two years; I started it on new years eve, and finished it on new years day! ;D ;D ;D

Good point! In fact it was a lot earlier than that: 1992-93. A week before my 16th Birthday!
