I have a few questions about both the Athearn and the Jordan 1/87 Ford Model A's.
Athearn- I really like the Athearn models, and have nearly collected all six colors of all three body styles. I even plan to buy a few extras to swap chassis (and fenders). That way, I can have a few with sidemounts that originally came with a rear mounted spare, and vise versa. The only thing that really bugs me about them is the solid wheels. The rubber tires are great, but the solid wheels cheapen the appearance of some really nice models. Has anyone done wheel swaps on these? What wheels did you use, how do they look, and will the car still roll? I know for a vintage hot rod appearance the wheels from the Athearn 55 Ford pickups would probably look great, but what about stock looking Model A wheels?
Jordan- I have been looking at some of the various Model A offerings by Jordan, and plan to buy the hot rods. previously the only Jordan Model A that I have ever bought, was the woody wagon. That one I dismantled and attempted to combine with an Athearn Model A chassis & fenders and front end up to the cowl ( the Athearn wheelbase was a little too short to allow it to fit right). Anyway, I see myself building at least three hot rods, a coupe, a roadster with the top down, and a roadster with the top up. Now my question is, how interchangable are the Jordan hot rod parts with other Jordan Model A's? Would making a stock Jordan coupe and roadster be possible with parts from the stock Jordan woody, sedan and pickup? And would hoodless hot rod woody wagon, pickup, and sedans be easilly made using the hot rod parts? I know the woody is molded in tan, what color are the hot rods, the sedan, and the pickup molded in?
Meanwhile, I'm also thinking about converting a couple Athearn coupes into roadsters using the Jordan hot rod roadster roof. Has anyone tried that? Maybe an Athearn roadster pickup would be in order as well.
Maybe, if I'm not out of line here, being a member for only about ten days, maybe, just for fun, we could have a little contest. Everyone whos interested could modify an Athearn or Jordan Model A, post photos, and we could all vote on the best one. And the winner would get..........nothing.
