This thread is for modifications that can be done to a particular model to improve appearance. When you have a model that is a disappointment and have a way to improve it, please share it here even if posting similar content elsewhere. We can all benefit from you suggestions. For some models the trick is to recognize what is needed. I suggest writing the Model Name in color .

I don't think any of us will deny that stripping the paint off a diecast and repainting will improve most of the diecast trucks offered. I could name a bunch like the beer trucks, the Ton (Tonkin) Volvo and the newer Malibu pieces. The latter are good to scale and proportion but heavy on the chrome and some of it, like the grilles are incorrect. This the Freightliner Columbia with new grille and paint scheme for Sunbury trucking of Fredericton, N.B. public.fotki.com/stryper50/1/trucks/freightlinercolumbia.htmlAnd the Tonkin Volvo VNL780 easily improved with a paint job and some decent Dennis Aust wheels. public.fotki.com/stryper50/1/trucks/avnl2.html

Cor, the first thing about the CMW White 3000 that bothers me is the grille/bumper which is too thick. Sand it thinner from the back, cut the grille louvres out and add your own. Then I found the tires are just awful little black rings. Finding a tire to fit the CMW rims would help. The chassis is way too thick but correcting it is a lot of work. I did this when they first came out (4 or 5 years ago??)

Many plastic models are cast in fairly thick plastic. This can be a problem sometimes because it forces manufacturers to place the wheels too far in under the body, making the model look narrow and wobbly. The best (worst) example I can think of is the Praliné Citroën CX, where the rear wheels are so close together that it looks a bit like a four wheeled BMW Isetta.
The easy fix? With a razorblade or with a Dremel, simply hollow out the plastic on the inside of the wheel wells, which allows for a wider, more realistic looking track. I don't think I have any pictures at the moment. This method also works for lowering cars, which can otherwise create problems fitting the wheels.

I'll do something with it, but the major problem is that I bought a lot af them for merchandise and cannot get them sold! I ordered direct from CMW at the time. Later I found out there was an agent of them over here, who was able to sell them to me for a lower price! But then CMW's policy changed that they had to buy double numbers of them. In stead of 6 in each colour they had to buy 12 of them. Then their agent said: I don't want to go on with the 1/87 models. Bad policy! Our market isn't so large! And I didn't want to pay too much anymore by ordering directly! Very frustrating model this White. After all the other cars we expected the same quality of this trucks but ................ Glad that I have the Ulrich Model myself Cor

Cor, that trailer is actually the diecast piece from Imex. With a diiferent landing gear and tires and the addition of the spare tire carrier, I think it's a better (and cheaper) trailer than the CMW piece. I hate those bulbous, out of scale running lights on the CMW trailers
