Hi all,
Currently changing a uk model fire truck into a New Zealand one for my diorama. How do you guys normally remove decals from 1:87 models? I was thinking a small sander or something and then repainting it? Also to note its a metal truck.
Cheers Nick

Nick, Since the truck is metal, soaking in a strong solvent would work. On metal trucks, I use lacquer thinner or any comecial paint stripper. On plastic, I use Castrol Super Clean. The decals should come off with the paint.

Thank you for the information, is there any otherway of removing them without removing the paint. As the truck is already the shade of red I require.
Cheers Nick

Nick, Try, of all things, a pencil eraser. It may take many passes, but it won't do as much damage to the paint as sandpaper if you're trying to save it. The paint can be buffed with your choice of polish if you do any damage with the eraser.
By the way, does anyone use polish on their models?

If the decal is not covered with a clearcoat, you should be able to remove it with a decal setting solution. It softens the decal then you should be able to wash it off with water..

By the way, does anyone use polish on their models? No, but I see it sold in the hobby shop for polishing models.
