Albert, Here's an idea that you may be able to adapt for a soft convertible top regarding the texture : modeltech.tripod.com/vinyl_top.htmMy thoughts are that if you built a wire frame and covered it as above.

Good idea, but sometimes the painting will desolve the glue on the tape.

Yes, a wired frame would be the best solution, and cover it with masking tape painted. A nice solution, paint the masking tape to get the vinyl look.

I have been thinking about a wire frame, using clear plastic wrap instead of the masking tape. That way one could leave the window clear as well.

You wouldnt get the nice texture of masking tape, but that might be too coarse for our scale anyways? I guess one could always mix ground up chalk into the paint.
