I'm lloking for good trilex wheels, particularly 10.00-20 and 12.00-20 . I have tried the Promotex ones, but the tyres look too thin related to 20" rims. The older Herpa-Promotex (the ones with smooth tread) were better proportioned, but too "square". I've found these trucks that look to have nice wheels: does anybody have a good idea where these wheels will come from? Does anybody know any other manufacturer who makes trilex wheels? Thanks in advance

I usually take the old Herpa/Promotex wheels, if you cut away the outer ring of the rims they look very good. What kind of "square" do you mean? I remember them being round... The wheels on the Fiat trucks are made the same way, but with Boley IHC wheels. They are look very similar to the Herpa ones. Just the center of the Herpa front rims is more flat and Boley has rubber tires.

Lonestar Models makes a terrific 6 spoke wheel in trailer and drive wheels. It's that front spoke wheel that presents the problem. I have found that detailing the Herpa 6 spoke wheels makes them a little more acceptable (darken the holes and paint spokes a color, leave the rim a steel or aluminum color). If you look at the wheels Barnaba has posted, I believe this is what one sees across Europe, but the US wheels differ. The center hub is not as big and often there are oil fittings at the center, not rounded hubs. I have just posted a pic of a KW C500A red truck that shows a fairly true to prototypical US style 6 spoke wheel. pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/stryper50/detail?.dir=/4cc7&.dnm=cfd5.jpg&.src=ph

Here are some pics of real Fiat wheels: When I said "square" (I'm sorry if my english is not too correct ), I wanted to mean that old tyres with inner tube looked rounder in section than recent tubeless ones. Furthermore, in old tyres, the ratio between height and width was 80, so that they looked higher than the most of recent ones. Could you please tell me where I can find a picture of the Boley wheels you was talking about? I've had a look at www.boleycorp.com/1-87/ , but I've not found the wheels. I'd like to buy some of these wheels. Thanks Barnaba

Here's a picture of the Boley wheels: www.1-87vehicles.org/images/New%20Products/Boley/boley_spartan_rf_lg.jpgI don't know who sells them in Italy, because they are not actually manufactured by Boley. In Germany, for example, they are sold under the Schuco badge. Note that there are two different kind of tires for the old Herpa wheels, the ones with the "Continental" writing on and the simple hard plastic tires. The one with the lettering are ok for me

In Italy the 1/87 market is limited to the most famous makes, like Herpa, Kibri, Roco, Preiser..., but nothing from small manufacturers, so that I use to buy everything from Germany or USA. Please let me know some german or american online shops where I can buy these items. Are the wheels sold separately or have I to buy the entire truck and take away the wheels from it? All the Herpa trilex wheels I have are with the simple hard plastic tyres, anyway I have a lot of Continental ones used on '80s trucks. x cfesmire the wheels of your KW look really big; are they 14" wide or more?

I have also the Weinert wheels: they are very good, but are too large (22" rims and not 20" like the ones I'm looking for).

They are the Herpa wheels and I put the Roco 14x 24 tires on them. They sell them separately as a package with enough to do (2) 3 axle trucks with spare. One off road set ( the green C500) and the highway set you see on the red C500. However, they come with military wheels and I have opted to use the Herpas that fit nicely.

Barnaba, the Boley or Schuco models should be available in many online-shops, they are really no rare find. I'm not an online-shopper, so I can't tell the best addresses, but they shouldn't be too hard to find. But sorry, the wheels are not sold seperately as far as I know. But Cfesmire was talking of a set from Boley's Budd wheels in the wheels talk thread, better ask him again. What are your plans, a Fiat fom the sixties as on the (real truck) pictures?

Thanks for your explanation. I'd like to make many Fiat trucks from sixties and seventies. I've beginned the remake of a 697-619... series cab, starting from a Lima cab and I've almost finished it (I just need to make the windshield in vacuform and a friend of mine will make the front grill and other details in photoetched brass). This cab will be used for all the '70s Fiat series, but first of all I'd like to make a Fiat 697-300 NP 6x4 used to carry marble blocks in Carrara. After this, I'm going to make this 30tm crane on Fiat 690T2 that still works in my town: Then I have more other projects, but nothing sure.

Interesting projects! I have some 70's Fiat projects going on, too. Here's a picture: singular.piranho.de/fiats.jpgAll three are Herpa based, I only used the front of the Lima trucks. But I'm only working on them from time to time, because I have so much other projects. How you're gonna start on the 690T2 cab? Build one on scratch? I just had a suspicion, you're Barnaba from the MMT forum, right? I'm looking there from time to time for the photo content and the albums, but I only understand a few words Italian. P.S.: If the link doesn't work directly(depends on your browser), go to my site and click the little picture to aggrandize.

Your models look really nice, especially the Lancia Esadelta. Is the cab completely scratch? I've also seen your Fiats! Just one question about Pegaso, as I'd like to make one too. Is the cab scartch or comes from a kit? Yes, I'm Barnaba from MMTItalia; I'm sorry that the forum is only italian speaking but if you want me to translate something you're interested in, just ask and I'll try to do it, as my english is not very good. For the 690 cab I think I'll use a G&G rail www.gegrail.com one, even if their quality is not excellent. I'll look in my hard disk for some pics of my Fiat '70s cab.
