While I have never tried resin casting, I have tried my hand at plaster casting. Several years back, with no money (I was 15 at the time), but some imagination, I decided I would create a fleet of checker cabs, I purchased 1 original magnuson, and some rubber mold making compond (the stuff they sell for making scale mountains) and durhams rock hard water putty (hard material similar to plaster of paris, but dries hard, and less porus) and set to work. I got some pretty descent results. And found that moulding wheels and tires was easire, and now I could duplicate wheels without buying additional cars. Anyhow It was cheap ~about $35 for enough material to cast many many cars, and anyone who wants to try casting without breaking the bank I think this may be a practical way. check out the finished taxis (also one of them Is from Oddo's hobbies, and If you can't tell from the picture I will not tell you which one it is. www.dementia.org/~mark/cb1.jpg

Very nice first try at molding. Keep that imagination working and you will be surprised to find just what you really can do.

I made some sample castings in plaster once from one of my master models. It's indeed an easy way to make multiples but I had a few problems with air bubbles resulting from the viscosity of the plaster. I wasn't really determined to produce anything serious though.
