Pardon my ignorance, but how are ads that run on this board selected?
Imagine my dismay to log in and see a lame ad for a political campaign staring at me.
Tell me that the insanity has not spread.
Thanks.

Dear All:
Forgive me, but the last thing I wish to see here is any of the Presidential Candidates Faces at this board; after all, I consider this a fun / vehicle site, so normally, if the case, should be Vehicle ads. My opinion, for I do not run this site, so I myself ask which one is the criteria for Advertising in here. My apologies by asking that; I am curious myself.

how are ads that run on this board selected? As far as I have been able to determine (Eric may know more about this) the ads are chosen at random and are not selectable by the admins. You have to remember that unlike the main site the forum is hosted for free, so we have very little influence on its design as a whole. I wish I could get rid of the campaign ads, but I can't. There is one possibilty: at the bottom of the board is a link to make the forum ad-free. $7 buy 50,000 ad-free page views. This can be split up among many members, so if we have enough people donating a Dollar from time to time, that would be the solution. I don't know how many page views the forum gets per month though.

This is exactly why I decided to go for paid hosting for the main site...
The ads are chosen at random indeed, we have no influence here. As you may have noticed they are model-related most of the time and come from Google Ads. This time however, the ad is funded by ProBoards themselves. Apparently they deem it necessary to express their political views and bother us.....
As Christian said, there is a possibility to get this board ad-free. Feel free to do so if the ad bothers you, I will ignore this ad just like I do with other ads.

I am curious as to what those outside the US see as the ads on this site? Or is the primary campaign ad seen throughout the whole world.........
I signed up for a month of ad free. Lets see what happens. order placed: Feb 4, 2008 5:31 PM PST
