Dear All:
Granted, the big majority of the recalled items (see www.mattel.com and click at recall info) are dolls or action figures, but a diecast item was also affected, the Cars Jeep Caracther whose reference number ends in 07 EA. There will be a $7.00 voucher given to returned toys (for Mattel Products). Is estimated that 9.5 million items are affected by this recall.
To make things more interesting, the Jeeps which are appearing at eBay are disappering quickly, for, once these will be taken by the recollection centers, they will just disappear; these items are not allowed to be sold since they were confirmated that they have unsafe levels of lead at their paint.
As it was stated, one of the Hong Kong suppliers from Mattel acquired paint from a third party, something that is not allowed by the Toy Company, for they want to inspect and approve all fases of their Toy Manufacturing. As this moment, only the Jeep is at risk, but I would not be surprised to learn that more items are at risk, and that even Matchbox may be affected. The other are dolls/action figures which a magnet device which was not deemed safe; as of now, the magnet is better located.
To make affaird more interesting, this was my personal experience: two weeks ago, I went to Burbank's Target in order to hunt for the Wellys which are sold at the $1.00 section. Did not found anything I did not have, but there was, a Cars Movie Military Jeep out of its pack, just sitting there. I got it, bought the item and that was that. Today, I discovered that its Reference number is #0787 EA, and as I made a quick run at Mattel's site, my vehicle is affected by unsafe amount of lead at its paint. I just had a specially done locking cabinet done for me (I will get a camera soon, so I will be making several displays with it to be photographed), so this item will go there, so is not exposed to no one. I do not know any/ or have any children, so there is not a risk for infant exposition to. Alas, Target marked this car at its base with the letters M T or M F; up to now I did not knew why or how come this thing was out of pack, but now I know better.
