This is a rather strange request. If I were in France after the Normandy invasion (D-Day as we in the States know it) and I was an American G.I., what kind of names would I see on the signs on the front of a small rural commercial structure? Say for instance a flour mill, wagon repair shop or a carpentry shop. Not particularly formal names but how the activities of the shop would be spelled.

Thanks Lee but they're kind of hard to read. Actually, I've settled on a wagon repair/builders shop. I need to know what to put on the sign. I'm going to make up my own decals for it. Those signs at Missing Lynx have just the look I want though. (great military modeling site, one of my favorites)

"Oh la la!", that seems a question for me or keroliver… In fact, I'm not sure. A flour mill would be a "Minoterie" (rather a large one) or a "Moulin" (rather what you're looking for). A carpentry shop would be a "Menuiserie" or a "Fabrique de meubles" if your carpenter mades pieces of furniture. But a wagon repair shop? Frankly, I don't know. I will try to find out.

It's a "Charron", of course. metiers.free.fr/ac/c003_d.htmlYou know, for a small french commercial structure in the 40's, I'm not sure a sign is really necessary.

"Le plaisir est pour moi"! Now, then, your sign could be name + "Charrettes - Charrues", or name + "Charrettes et charrues". Now what you need is a typical normand name. Here are a few lists of some: www.geneattic.com/normandie/nomsnorm.htmnom-de-famille.linternaute.com/noms/40/1/calvados.shtmlnom-de-famille.linternaute.com/noms/102/1/seine-maritime.shtmlFor the forname, could be Jean, André, Réné, Gustave, Jacques, Martin, etc… Typical old french fornames. "Voilà…"

Chester,
I just had a look at you gallery, and I've seen your "Normandie 1944" diorama. Nice job! All that is missing is french women kissing american soldiers!
And, to stay on the the topic 1/87 vehicle, a Brekina Traction Avant with blackout lights and "FFI" painted on each side.

I'm just sorry it's so hard to see but to the left of the door is the "Charrettes" sign I made. And thanks!
