Regarding the conversation in the Topic: What is the future of 1/87th models? regarding the availability of a representative cross-section of the German car market of 1988 versus now. Marc provided us with some impressive statistics homework.
Some nitpicks, although I must also agree with the point made by Marc.
Miber's Escort and Mazda 323 and Rietze's Mitsubishi Galant should be added to 1988 I think, bringing the total to 34. The Rietze 626 was the previous generation and is rightly excluded.
On the newer list, the inclusion of Schuco's Corsa and the Yaris (I have a bunch and they are of dubious quality) may be discussed - but so could the Herpa/Miber 205 Rallyes of yore.
Anyways, it is still true that there is still serious variety for the German collector, at least equal to the situation of 1988.
Also taken into account would have to be the longer lifespan of models in the past. They seem to change much quicker nowadays, making things harder for collectors and manufacturers as well.
The most interesting thing is looking at the lists of car sales in Germany, then and now. Always loved lists, of any kind. ;D What strikes me is how Japanese cars have nearly disappeared from the lists over the last fifteen years, while German products (and variety of products, from Porsche off-roaders to VW luxury cars) have made a resurgence.

Skunk,
I appreciate your input. I added the models you mentioned to the list in the original post. I was unsure whether or not to include the rallye cars, but as they have potential to be modified into street-cars, I decided in their favour.
Today, Japanese cars have a market share of around 12 percent in Germany. That's not too far away from the 1988 figure, only that there is a larger variety of models to choose from, resulting in lower sales of individual models.

AMW makes the Lupo as well - apparently the grass is greener on this side of the fence!
