Just thought someone might be interested in seeing a rare find I made in the city of Portland , Maine this weekend. I don't have a clue how this '55 A30 got here in the U.S. and what's even more amazing is that it's a left hand drive.

There's not much mystery about how the little Austin got here; immigrants and returning servicemen brought all sorts of cars to the U.S. before the federal government clamped down on them in the late 1960s. Most, but not all, of these vehicles were converted to LHD.
I had a friend in Southwestern Connecticut whose mother had a Morris that was still RHD. She didn't want to change. Some other British emigres had their cars converted but kept all the old parts in case they decided to return to the UK.

Also, many servicemen bought their cars (LHD) in Germany. I feel bad for the Honda Accord in the foreground, too - much greater chance of the Austin surviving...
