I see all kinds of vehicles going by where I live and am wondering if anyone would be interested in my posting photos of the real thing? I know when I start to model something, it is nice to have some photos as a guide to work from. I tried the building on Broadway to see if there was any interest in seeing real vehicles in action. The number of hits it is getting tells me that there are people watching the thread. Unless Eric says otherwise, I could see building a number of threads with real vehicles so the modelers would have a variety of ideas to work with. Leave your thoughts and comments here.

I for one, have been following the thread on the Broadway building. I think you've been giving us some great shots to model from of the vehicles. I chose service vehicles above but would more likely mean it to be construction vehicles. Fact is I could easily have checked all the catagories. I think most of us enjoy seeing photos of the prototype vehicles so we can more accurately portray them in our models.

I think it's a good idea, Lee. As you say, it's always interesting to get picture of a car before modelling it. For my part, before building a kit, I'm always looking for the more pictures I can get of the real car.
A variant of your idea would be to take pictures on request. I mean, if someone is looking for pictures of a specific car, he could ask here on the board, and perhaps some other members may photograph the real car for him. For example, I suppose it's easiest for us europeans to get pictures of european cars than for you americans, and vice versa.

I second the "pictures on request" idea. There are plenty of resources on the internet for vehicle photos, so I would prefer this board to focus on scale cars. Of course, we need the best infomation we can get for modelling projects. I would see this board as a kind of last resource, i.e. if one's own research in books, magazines and the WWW proves to be fruitless, we can always come back to this thread and try to find someone to supply us with the one photo we need. Or the two or ten ones, for that matter. I do not see much sense in random pictures of cars posted here, though.
That said, I very much enjoyed the Building on B'way thread, partly because I learned that construction equipment (not dump trucks, of course) is quite similar on our respective sides of the big pond. I also recognized I spend too much time looking out of the office window to follow the construction of a new office block on the other side of the street............

I voted for police cars, because that automatically gets pictures of family sedans, as well.
The pictures on request idea is quite good. As a matter of fact, I have already put the idea to good use.

I hear what is being said by everyone. What got me to thinking about pictures is most of what you see in pictures are "stock" vehicles. I see all kinds of light trucks, each different than the last with tool boxes, racks, small winches, tools in the bed................
So anyone looking for pictures of anything special?

I have already walked around LA with a digital camera getting pictures of various cars for Christian (Acuras and such as is not available in Europe), so the board has already been used in this way.
I guess that pictures on request would be the best way to do it.
I personally need less projects on my table, so I am not looking for any pictures right now. I am planning on getting a camera before Christmas, and then I will go get some shots of all the Brazilian-built Mercedes "Bullnose" trucks one sees around here.

So several feel that this is worthwhile. Should we simply create a new thread (under "the real thing" I would imagine) and call it "Photo Requests". Personally I would like to see it created as a data base. That is, a request for photo of make, model and year followed by the responding photos without a lot of commentary. I wouldn't want to have to wade through several responses to a photo like "wow great picture" or "I had one of those" (like I sometimes do). Perhaps have a corresponding thread for such things (??). Also I would think that blueprints or scaled drawings would be allowed.

Dear All:
Buses were not added here.
In places like Brazil,Bus Bodymaking was/is a big industry, and many interesting designs came and gone.

Dear All:
I thought of the issue and Buses can be described as Service Vehicles on my book;hence I voted for that.
Is a paid site now with limited acess, but there is a place where one can see the enormous variety of Bus Bodies which existed in Brazil from the late 1940's to now and people there makes models of them in several materials, paperboard being the favorite.

It looks like someone couldn't make up their mind weither they had a 4dr family car or a street machine. Note the scoop on the hood, spoiler on the rear and the large tail pipe.
