Hi all. I just thought I would start this thread for any of you to discuss F1 racing, wether it's in real life or in model form. Presently, I have been doing some temporary work for a F1 team that is local to me. I'm not sure if I should mention which team it is on here, but it is one that is part of a french car manufacturer, and has employed a certain driver that has won the driver's championship for the past two years (!!!). They had different scales of models on their merchandising list, and they described their scales thus: 1/18 scale (big); 1/24 scale (medium); 1/43 scale (very small). I wonder what they would make of 1/87 scale!

Jan Yes, Renault issued keyrings in their blue Mild Seven markings. There were other F1 keyring cars that were very close to 1/87. Many of them were made by a company in the UK called MDS-UK. Among the keyrings I have that are close to 1/87th are: [/a] Panasonic Toyota Mild Seven Renault (Alonso) HP Williams-BMW [/ul] I was hoping for more in this series but MDS appears to be out of business and I haven't seen anything like these for a long time. You can still find these on Ebay. It would be wonderful if High Speed would produce a series of models like these. I can only dream

Dear All:
A while ago (late 1970's,most of the 1980's) Formula 1 cars were made by Tomica (1/55 scale);ERTL did Indy Racers at the same scale. In the 1990's,most items were NASCAR racers, with very few formula or Indy Cars being made.As of now,it seems that no one are doing these,so one has to wonder how they would sell if made in 1/87 scale.Alas, myself,I would like to see a few of the modern racers being done plus some other, classic formula cars.

Watching the race with a couple of Brazilian girls was interesting... apparently the fact that Lewis Hamilton is cuter than Felipe Massa is outweighed by the fact that Massa comes from Brazil. Alonso is no longer cute at all. As for the race? This might shape up to become the best season since the Turbo era. A sheer pleasure to see new drivers doing well, and I cannot say that I miss Schumacher one bit. And it's so close! The first ten (10!) drivers finished on the same lap! Eric: This thread is probably off topic, maybe it should be moved elsewhere?

A couple of Brazilian girls, eh? You seem to have a good life! You can tell them that I have met Nelson Piquet Jr. while there! Anyway, back to the topic: I managed to look at a copy of the 2006 season merchandising catalogue, and as well as models of the cars in scales from 1/43rd to 1/10th there was a race transporter truck in 1/87th. The detail of it was a bit lacklustre in my opinion, though. I reckon that I could do a better rendition with some bits from the Herpa Extra shop!

Mmmm, What an interesting topic ! Well, let's begin by the stuff already related to F1 in this website: A complete listing of F1 models... time to update it, isn't it ? www.87thscale.info/formula_1_list.htm And this post by chewievette 87thscale.proboards23.com/index.cgi?board=Progress&action=display&thread=1170521125 Or that one (from me... not F1, but still open wheels racing cars) 87thscale.proboards23.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=1113916948Here are some links to my 64th and 87th scale F1 collection: Mostly Evrat, Minichamps and DIY made models: members.lycos.co.uk/minicollection/87_f1_antics.htm members.lycos.co.uk/minicollection/87_f1_1998.htm members.lycos.co.uk/minicollection/87_f1_1999.htm members.lycos.co.uk/minicollection/87_f1_recent.htm www.87thscale.info/building_a_formula_1_car.htm membres.lycos.fr/keroliver/keychainf1.htm membres.lycos.fr/teamaoc2006b/200609_polistil_f1.htm membres.lycos.fr/teamaoc2006b/200610_minichamps_87.htm Ok let's stop the links, lol, and let's talk about the real f1. A new year with many changes. Ferrari and MacLaren still on top of the grid. 4 drivers Massa, Raikkonen, Alonso, Hamilton ready to fight for the title... Let's open the bids ! New tracks and projects everywhere in the world, but let's don't carry away too quickly. This is thanks to BE who blows up the numbers of the TV audience. His numbers include all people who have watched a F1 race without notion of time, that is 365 millions people in average per race ! Now another study has found that 'only' 80 millions have watched a F1 race more than 30 seconds in average last year... BE didn't include people who use the remote control and zap quickly from channel to channel. (Article published in French on fr.sports.yahoo.com/f1/index.html, unfortunately, i can't find it right now) Here in taiwan, at least 3 F1 magazines appeared last year... they are all gone already. As for the F1 models, in big scales from 1/43 to 1/12, copyrights are very strict and only 2 brands can produce F1 models ! Hot Wheels and Minichamps. In 64th, there have been plenty of brands (see my collection) and think of these beautiful Kyosho F1 models... mamma mia ! so beautiful ! I haven't opened them yet... and I will not ! In addition to my 87th scale DIY models, I am working on a 64th scale generic modern F1 and then cast it and pain them in the team colors. As you can see, I do like F1, lol. So, if you can help me complete my collection in 87th or 64th scale, please contact me ! Oliver
