Dear Lee: The vehicle was taken. Two bids, and sold for $5.50. Too bad about the lack of proportions and too fast speeds; but I know for a fact that these items still good sellers.

For $5.50 plus shipping someone got a unit that has a RC transmitter and receiver, a servo that turns the front wheels, a motor, and a rechargeable battery good for about a minute. What would need to be done is regearing it to a slower, much slower speed and putting scale wheels on it. It could be done by someone who is clever.

Those little RC cars are available for less in stores. Somone got my wife one that looked like a mouse, and there wasnt much to be done with it. It was, however, fun to play with, really blew the dog's mind.
Regarding the Toyota AA, I remember seeing a picture of it driving around a coin. But I also seem to remember seeing a wire attached to it, so I am not sure if it was RC. I will see if I still have this pic.

Another entrant into 1-87 R/C vehicles here: www.lippold.net/index.html?modell.htmlI had to give this a try, I went to Radio Shack and bought one of their little R/C vehicles. Alas, it is much too wide for 1-87 and cannot be adapted without major modifications. For $19.95 it was worth it, I have many hours of desktop racing ahead of me even if it is in 1-64 scale.

By George I've done it! I've managed to fit the Radio Shack ZipZap remote controlled 1/64 scale guts into a Roco Faun. It's still a little crude and the model itself need finishing but now I have a 1/87 r/c vehicle. I had to swap the hard plastic tires for rubber ones (Roco off-road) and a considerable chopping went into the truck body but wheelbase is right and it actually runs. Perhaps I can get a short video out when all is complete.

Chester,
Congratulations, I'd like to see pictures !
One question though, most of these smaller r/c models have limited possibilities to control their speed (it's either on or off...) Does your model have a better remote or did you solve that in another way ?

Eric, At the moment, it is not a variable speed. It runs quite fast but I would like to try to gear it down so that the speed is less and it has more torque. Perhaps if I fit it into a Ferrari I would be pleased that it is quick but being it is a military vehicle I would rather it be able to negotiate rough terrain. I has a small servo to turn the front wheels on the vehicle and it does have reverse. I am at this very moment getting the front wheels to rotate a little easier. The Faun GT8/15 is an awkward little truck made specifically for lifting and hauling a 105mm howitzer. I may just put a "tarp" over the workings as I have fit it all into the bed and did not have to disturb the cab. Disguising the underside may be a problem and the antenna will need to protrude from somewhere. Needless to say, a great triumph here for me as I have admired the vehicles on some of the sites mentioned in the thread and have always wanted to try this albeit a crude attempt. Next, working lights.

Dear Chester:
And you conviced me: I will look for the R/C Kenworth T2000 semi trailer that is close to 1/87 scale. I did not saw that at Radio Shack; I should see where I find it now because the store that had it ran out of it.

While browsing I found this site: www.neu-mo.de/Instead of adding extra wheels at the bottom of the model these 1/87 tanks use drivewheels so the model really moves on it's tracks..

Making a good working pair of tracks in 1/87th scale would be a real feat. They are hard enough to build in 1/35th scale.

Lee, I agree and it has been tried by many. Even making a good looking set of tracks is hard enough let alone make them work. Every so often I give it a whirl, fail, and try again months later. George Barrett at Sheepscot Scale Products showed me a preproduction sample of some that he did that looked pretty convincing but that was some time ago and I haven't heard anything about them since.

April is almost here and the Dosyusha models will be released. Do you think Toyeast will be the easistes way to get them?
Any new about the Trumpeter RC?

Any new about the Trumpeter RC? I have a feeling that we won't see much of them, but one never really knows with Trumpeter ... maybe our best chance is bugging the importers into selling them here? Unfortunately I haven't seen them mentioned anywhere else.
