Looking at the pictures of the autos on the Miniatur-Wunderland, I am truely amaized. They look like stock models complete with interiors and people BUT they have a little electric motor, some kind of drive train, a battery, a computer chip, and both headlight and taillights that work!!! Where did they put it all! I wonder if anyone can get some pictures of the vehicles taken apart to show the details. The Faller system uses much larger vehicles like trucks and buses, the smallest being a VW bus so they can put their system inside. Nothing on the market that I know of even comes close.

This site may give you an idea of what is possible www.mikromodell.de/. It is in German, but if you click 'Autos' you will see a lot of pictures of interesting models. Apparently the miniaturization of components has gone as far as making it possible to get everything into an 1/87 Smart !

Dear Sirs: When I saw the Faller system at the Walther's Catalog,I was quite impressed with the whole concept. Now that I hear that small vehicles such as the Smart can be powered I find it fascinating.Probably the model railroaders are happy with this concept because the CARS and Trains move..................................

I have just found this web site with a lot of well-known 1/87 vehicles made available for the Faller Car System (FCS); www.bau187pkw.modellautobahnen.de/He also seems to offer almost any of your favourite 1/87 vehicles being converted to the FCS system. But with a price of about 85 Euros/each, don't count on any traffic jam in my planned 1/87 diorama(s) ! ;D

Here is another very interesting site dealing with powered 1/87 vehicles; www.modellautobahnen.de/Sadly only in German so far, but here is a lot of very interesting info regarding different kinds of powered 1/87 vehicles; Magnet-based systems, FCS, Infrared or R/C guided vehicles, PC interface and programs etc.) Has anybody experience with magnet-based systems, evt. in combination with the FCS system ? A magnet-based system may be an affordable option to get a large number of your 1/87 vehicles in motion.

Dear Bjarte: Thank you for all of these images.I do not know how this system works, but I want to try it.Walthers does not carry these powered vehicles any longer nor the Faller Range. This is the scenario that I liked the most: www.weiss-electronic.de/deutsch/images/intertraffic/bruecke_gr.jpg Question: Does Busch does this kind of vehicles?

If you're interested in putting your 1-87 in motion, this site is a veritable encyclopedia on the subject. Lots of tech data, supplier links, and how-tos, including what type of batteries, motors etc. to use to get your 1-87 squealing tires. If you spend enough time going through it (it is huge in content) you will find a lot of photos. I took a particular interest in the drive trains used in these little guys. Imagine making 1-87 scale u-joints (really!). www.tinyrc.com/

There was a recent series on Cable TV here in the UK all about models. They had three special editions focused on the model show in Dortmund, and had pictures of a highway diorama using the Faller road system. (One vehicle even had a micro camera mounted to it to get a "Driver's eye" view!) One thing that really interested me were some other people putting together a radio controlled car in 1:87! (A Smart, I believe) I'll see if this channel has any images on it's website.

I'll believe just about anything but a helicoper flying in 87th scale? I don't think so. See the site that Eric posted for what I am talking about.

A moving scooter I can believe. There is a radio controled motorcycle available in a larger scale. ;D. Someone is holding the tail of the helicopter in the video.
