Dear Eric: By 2001 or 2002 a member of the Model Vehicles Unlimited club informed me that Johnny Lightning may introduce a line of 1/87 cars, but I was not able to confirmate that.Their 1/64 cars are a step above than the ones from Hot Wheels or Matchbox, but a tad below from the ( discontinued) ERTL Muscle Machines. And since their Chevrolet bus was awarded the best HO of 2001 by Toy Car and Models magazine and they are always releasing vehicles that were never reproduced in 1/64 ( Tucker,'62 Pontiac) they may do nice prototypes. The Utiltymaster Stepvan speaks by itself................ But of course, this is a speculation...............

I believe you will be seeing some very high quality American truck models coming out very soon from Masterbuilt Models. There is an association with Lonestaar models here and if any of you have ever seen or built any of thier pieces you know you have a very true to prototype piece that is very well done. You can see some preproduction work on the 1-87 Vehicle site of the new Masterbuilt pieces

Chester,
Has Masterbuilt Models issued models in other scales ? My understanding of the text at 1-87 vehicles was that there would be new 1/87 models from a manufacturer already making models in other scales you see and as far as I know Masterbuilt has only been announcing 1/87 models sofar.

Masterbuilt is definitely only 1-87. I see that Norscot recently ventured into 1-87 with the introduction of some Cat construction pieces and Boley also is releasing Motorart pieces of Volvo construction equipment with an articulated dump, an excavator and possibly more. They have also just this week updated their website to include a line of utility vehicles. Unfortunately, I think the choice of the IH 4900 and the GMC Topkick are awful. Two really ugly trucks.

Dear Sirs:
That makes my Johnny Lightning theory more and more close...........................
Just kidding.But as I said,that is what I heard.To be seen.On their Monopoly series,this company offers a 1/64 and a 1/160 ( N gauge) scale cars.

Actually, it's not Johnny Lightning, which is a shame, as there are lots of people who would like to see another of the big American diecast makers embrace 1:87 scale. [Johnny Lightning, Mattel, Playing Mantis - any of them]
Nor is it Masterbilt Models.
If all goes well, the public announcement will come in late May.

Construction equipment, I am sure now.
"On the brass front 2004 will see 3 new manufacturers enter 1/87 scale. EMD will produce the Terex Titan, CMC will release the Peterbilt 379 / Talbert Lowboy , Komatsu 575A-3 dozer and one new manufacture that is currently under wraps."

Make that two new manufacturers this year. Might be three, but I am not sure about the third yet.
