This was once one of the best sites around for 1/87 modeling; now it is basically a dead site. I've tried to liven things up the last 6 months by posting anything and everything but no one seems to want to join in. Surely, other members have acquired things or done some modeling they could tell us about! I am going to be inactive again (as I have been in the past) due to health reasons. If I survive this latest treatment I'll try some more posting. all for now, Swamp Daddy

There are several groups on Facebook for 1/87 scale vehicle modeling. Lots of activity there, and I recognize many as having posted here regularly in the past. I like this group, but I would guess the Facebook groups are doing so well by comparison due to it being so much easier to post photos there. I still check in here several times a week.

Yeah it’s a bit sad. As a German I still have other sites. But here it seems to be dead. But I hope you recover well!

In fact, this was probably the best address for Modellbau 1/87. Together with the database, it was the most important thing for me to manage my extensive collection. Probably it has not managed to break the generation change from the founders to potential successors. The image gallery of 1/87 Vehicle Club is still, albeit less active. With Google Translate you can also get good information on French and Dutch pages today. The measure of things today is the German mo87.de. It is today internationally positioned even if the language is German. In the meantime also English messages are accepted. Mostly because they show brilliant models. And Google Translate works both ways. Organized by Michael Scheel and Marc Schmid, the MO87 Fulda Meeting is truly the scene's hotspot and the place where small-lot manufacturers are to be found. Since the scene in the US also has great things to offer it would be very enjoyable if they would also work together more actively in the network. Or I just do not know that that is already the case? With warmest regards Markus of Switzerland United Collectors

Well, I survived my latest (and last hopefully) acquaintance with the knife. I won't whine here as everyone will (or has) found out getting old is no fun and not for wimps. There is a site which likes and invites photos in their threads. I am now using it for my modeling projects. I still have my PhotoBucket account for posting photos for this site. The site I am referring to is: www.zealot.com/index.php where they also know me as Swamp Daddy too. I have a number of projects underway there in the "Model RR/Scratchin' and Bashin'" thread. I participate in other threads too. The nice thing is the photos are in the text explaining what I am doing - quite convenient.
I too like this site and had my start at sharing and learning many years back which is why I am sorry it has fallen out of use. But short of allowing photos I don't think it will regain it's past glory. Someone with deep pockets (money) needs to take over and revitalize it. And, a way to accept donations is needed so participants can help too.
I will catch up on photo posting as mentioned in several threads of mine via PhotoBucket.
I urge all to check out the Zealot site too.
Have fun modeling, Swamp Daddy

I don't check in here as often as I should. I used to be known as 'Hemicuda' from long before anyone made a model of one, but then I was 'forced' to use the handle 'culcune' due to being a member of another proboard and forgetting my password there. My accounts apparently merged. I stopped by Burbank's House of Hobbies the other week, and due to budget constraints was only able to purchase one Oxford '68 Charger, with the intention of buying more and a few of the '69 Daytonas, but a check I was waiting for became 'lost' and another was sent out which has not gotten to me yet. So that is about the only update I have, and I would like to ask those who know to post some of the better Facebook groups, please.

I'm building/modifying trucks. My latest in-progress is a pair of Ford trucks (ConCor on left, Jordan on right) with scratchbuilt bodies. Here's generic-looking Mini Lindy cab with a body from a Mack (probably Jordan but I'm not sure).

I should probably say something, now that I am here.
First of all, I am glad that you are doing OK, Harry. And thank you for trying to liven things up a bit around here. As for this forum and its counterpart, the 87thscale.info website, it's certainly not a matter of money or technology. I am pretty sure that we could have both updated to current standards without too many problems. The challenge here is the community or the lack thereof. We were never many to begin with - maybe 30 or so - and when key members left (more than a few have passed on, actually) there was no way to keep up the buzz of the old days. A self-energizing circle really. And you know me, I've been drifting in and out of the online communities myself for the better part of two decades. Add to that the fact that Eric just isn't in the position to update the website (bear with him, please), and here we are.
I am open to suggestions, but short of bringing back Bill, Håkan, Marc, Mark, Bjarte, Rabi, Sylvain, Nick, Albert, Peter, Jean-Marc, Olivier, David, Dwight, Alan, Philippe, Todd, Jeff, Sander, Gary, Maz, Kenny, Jim, Vito, Barnaba, Tom, Joe, Wayne, Michael and a few others that I miss dearly, I am not all that hopeful.

Christian: You have indeed pointed out things. First, if you update the site too much I will NOT be able to login most likely. I am still running XP Pro and find I can no longer visit many sites as XP does not have newer matching security protocols. That aside, the answer is PHOTOGRAPHS. This site needs to let members post photos to this site. I have no idea of how to implement this nor of the cost. I maintain a PhotoBucket account and at first I could reference that location and the photos would appear here; then PhotoBucket got greedy and wanted a huge monthly fee to allow such 3rd party hosting. So I had to leave links here to the PhotoBucket location. This is inconvenient for many who won't bother to even click a link. I simply kept juggling my photos around adding new ones and eliminating many old ones at PhotoBucket.
I think if we could post photos directly to this site in our threads some who have moved on to easier venues would come back. FaceBook has simply run many other social sites out because of the ease of putting in photos. It is a phenomena I don't understand as their software is clunky, their messenger boring and hard to use. It is simply not a site that is organized well. But it suits many if not most people out there.
I put many of my projects now on Zealot (http://www.zealot.com/) where I am also "swampdaddy" as I am here. You can put in 10 photos per post. Check out this long thread of mine on a scratch building project called TRANSPORT CENTRAL. www.zealot.com/index.php?forums/scratchin-bashin.249/ Look at the Transport Central thread. You'll get smaller photos unless you join and then you see the larger ones. See how many photos are in that one thread. The thread on Transport Central was started here ages before I got on Zealot. And, I still update it here in Swamp Daddy's Workbench but I have to refer to my PhotoBucket account or to Zealot so people can see photos too.
However, if Zealot has a weakness it is that they cover just about everything modeling and sometimes not a lot in our focused area of vehicles and collecting them. But, sometimes there are threads there where I try to spark interest in autos/trucks/buses, etc. One is "Bus Lovers Unite" that I just started at Zealot: www.zealot.com/index.php?threads/bus-lovers-unite-those-infected-with-the-fetish-join-in-too.180661/ You can see it only attracts a few ho-hums on Zealot. Whereas the thread here started almost 10 years ago, 87thscale.proboards.com/thread/1713/bus-lovers-unite-2?page=1, was far more lively in it's day.
The liveliest thread on vehicles on Zealot that I started is here: www.zealot.com/index.php?threads/web-links-for-traction-parts.112687/page-2 Keep going to you see all the photos.
Did not mean to carry on so but a short simple answer would not give you much to think on. We need photos, photos and more photos on 87thScale.info to regain some old members and get new ones.
all for now, SWAMP DADDY now simply old member

I don't come by here much anymore as I usually search out the vehicles that interest me on my own. I have been impressed with the volume of new buses being made by Iconic Replicas. Some nice surprises in there.
Hope you are doing well, Swamp Daddy!

For awhile the "photo problem" was under control with 2nd party sites like PhotoBucket that allowed you to store photos and have them appear in posts here. Then, PhotoBucket got greedy and cut off the ability to have photos hosted there for other sites. They wanted terrible rates to do so. I kept getting notices that my account was almost full (though it wasn't) and I needed to upgrade. My answer was to delete half the photos I had there. Then I got notices I wasn't using the site enough and I needed to upload more photos. They have now relented and some 3rd party hosting is allowed; but, I simply can't trust them anymore.
I still use PhotoBucket and need to add some more photos of recent stuff so the few visiting this site can see them. Hope to do so soon. Got some more custom painted Packards and I need to photograph them.
Maybe our monitors will fix the photo business and good threads can appear again.
have fun, Swamp Daddy

Hello All,
Like everyone has said, we definitely need to post photos of the latest and greatest new 1:87 models announced on the market. In addition, to make the discussion even more attractive, the forum should become more of a clearinghouse for news regarding the most distinctive HO scale models in the world.
We see so little (I suppose, because there are so few) 1:87 scale Asian replicas. Is anyone planning any Hondas, Nissans or Toyotas (besides, of course, the wonderful Spark race-car models)? Announcing upcoming, with photos, here would be fantastic.
In addition, it would be wonderful to see an increasing focus on right-hand-drive HO scale models. Auscision's offering was excellent, but we haven't heard news about any future releases from them. It would be great to see more RHDs, including wagons.
Hopefully, more of this type of news will make it to this forum. Happy Holidays everyone!
Tony F.

Having just recovered from a turkey coma, I am now going to try and catch up on things on this site. I finished off some non-model projects at home which have kept me busy. Have a happy holiday season and let us know what 1/87 type gifts you get (or give yourself). have some holiday fun, Swamp Daddy
