Several years ago I was collecting these Revell Mopars as i would find them on E-bay. There were seven cars and each was available in seven colors. I became on line friends with a gentleman who I always seemed to end up bidding against. His name was Mike Cook and he was trying to obtain enough of them to fill a complete train. He passed away about a year ago, and I think you may be seeing his family starting to auction off the collection. Mike was a member of this forum, for a brief time. He also had some of the 1/87 scale Marx 1957 Ford wagons and 57 Cadillac ElDorados which I saw were on E-bay by the same seller. Some of the Revell Mopars he had were in unique colors as some were made in Mexico after the line was discontinued in the U.S.

It used to be that every once in awhile you would see a whole set go for $150 to $200 on eBay. Haven't seen a whole set in a decade. When issued, these Revell cars pioneered high detail and quality. At that time most cars were generic blobs of metal with the only other exception being the Varney Fords & the Studebaker which were much better than the blobs but not as good as the Revell cars. At one time when I first joined here I had maybe 5 sets untouched. Found them at a Hobby Shop going out of business around 1965. Traded them off over the years for other things I wanted but I did keep a couple of sets for myself. What might be nice would be for a current manufacturer to make similar sets of today's cars. Or maybe a set of 7 Mustangs of different body styles. Surely they would sell. Still, I can't complain as overall the quality of all manufacturers has risen a lot from the 50s & 60s stuff. I think River Point Station is at the top in quality currently. have fun modeling, Swamp Daddy

I think the Convert-a-car concept was an exceedingly good one and would be a good thing to revive today. 7 Ford cars & trucks for 2018 7 Chevrolet cars & trucks for 2018 7 Chrysler cars & trucks for 2018
set of 7 Mustangs through the years set of 7 Corvettes through the years set of 7 Chargers or Barracudas through the years
I bet they would sell as long as the price was reasonable.

Woooee, just checked this Convert-a-Car auction, 2 hours to go and it's at $70. Still, quite cheaper than what the Revell versions bring - usually $150-200.
Ebay never fails to amaze me.

Some of those are the rare Mexican releases molded in different colors than anything Revell offered in the U.S. The yellow, dark blue, and the dark green were never offered on releases available in the U.S. Also noticed several of the Wiking 64 Chevy Malibu hardtops in several colors.

jim68cuda: Did you bid on any of them?
And, if so, let us know if you win any.

Have fun modeling, Swamp Daddy No, I haven't bid on anything on E-bay for years. The yellow ones in the current auction were interesting because of their rarity and because the yellow is close to an original color Chrysler offered in '61. But I didn't bid. I have enough of the Revell Mopars in my collection already. I have each of the seven cars in almost all the original seven colors. I think the white Dodge Lancer sedan is the only one I don't have a good example of. All the others I have in all seven original colors.
