Quick question, what's the difference between Fiat's 619 and 160 models? They both came with the "H" cab and were offered in similar payload and horsepower ranges. I just can't figure it out.

Oh my, are you really trying to make sense of Fiat truck nomenclature? Well, good luck...
I can't tell you the difference but here's a few ideas:
* It's the same truck, name was changed due to the creation of IVECO in 1975. The 100's nomenclature has formerly been seen on OM trucks, OM 150 etc. So there might be a sense of standardization behind changing the name.
* It's basically the same truck, but slightly different. The Fiat "H" cab did not start out as a tilt cab, however the one from Unic did and I'm not sure about OM. The Unic was supposed to compete with sophisticated trucks, the Fiat was meant to be a fairly cheap and rugged truck, suitable for export to Africa and production in Southern America. Fiat did however also introduce a tilt cab later on, but I don't believe they switched their complete line to the newer cab. So the 619 might be a slightly cheaper but more rugged 160.

Oh my, are you really trying to make sense of Fiat truck nomenclature? Well, good luck... I wouldn't dream of it. The reason I am asking is that I was looking at what CR Ninive/1000 Models had produced and they called some of their models 619 and others 160. I can't make out any differences in the photos, though, and will just presume that the models came from the same mold. Wikipedia.fr has articles on both and claims that the trucks were in production pretty much at the same time, shooting holes in your first theory. You might be on to something with the second one.

After reading both articles I would disagree. I would even say that they answer the question more or less. In the Fiat 619 article it says it was replaced by the 170/190 models in 1975 but stayed in production (probably for export or solemly in Argentina). In the 160 text it says it came to light in 1975 and served as a transition model between the old and the new road code which slightly changed the rules on axle weight distribution.
So the 160 meets requirements for both, the new and the old road code. To me that doesn't mean that the 619 did any less. So I believe the 160 is basically a rebadged 619 with maybe an updated interior and some very minor changes. It was offered for those who wanted a new truck but one that was still able to legally pull the old trailers, which the new 170 wasn't designed for. The 170 had the tilt cab, but for some reason the Italians weren't too fond of that feature, many preferred old trusty and rugged mechanics, so the 160 kept the fixed cab.
So far I would call that a valid running theory and it's actually closer to my theory N°1.
The 619's from 1975 to 1980 are the ones that puzzle me also, but I would suggest it has to do with export marketing. The 170 was never offered in Argentina for instance, therefore couldn't replace the 619. The Argentinian/Brazilian models were produced in Brasilia (I think), so there was no need to update the product or name at all. So I don't think there was a 160 in South America either. But Iveco could have kept producing 619s in Italy, too. Remember, the 682 with the old "Baffo" cab was also still in production, but only for export to Africa. While it has been manufactured in Nigeria from 1970 on they still built it in Italy (for Lybia and some for Ethiopia). That one also kept its name until end of production in 1988! There is no rhyme or reason when it comes to export models.

Nice models. Looked at their own page, there was just one "Assembled and painted resin model". www.crninive.it/Not too shy, those prices.
