I always thought that the Grand National was far below Herpas usual standards. It is clearly made in China, missing the usual crisp lines and the sharp "folded paper" edges that the prototype displayed. Also, the lights and grille are just painted on, and the rims are completely wrong.
I will admit that it is an interesting prototype, from which many interesting models can be made, but the execution is only so-so.

Well, what do you expect, it's a former Monogram model.

Dear Sirs:
Well, sorry about that.............in all,I like Herpa's version of the Buick;I find that is a tad more crisper than Monogram's version-and a tad more realistic.
Today I was looking at their Opel Ascona and I quite like their models from the past.
And then, there is their Mercedes 600 sedan.....................

The Maybach seems like an excellent representation (of an abhorrent car, I wonder how long before the "Maybach" label is put back to rest? Here's an image of a Maybach Zeppelin built by a quite amazing guy in Hamburg. Check out his other stuff, too! Sadly he has already done a lot of things I meant to do myself... galerie.hamburg-decals.de/umbautenpkw/maybach-zepp.jpg - I am not sure what this is, kit or scratchbuilt? Very interesting models. Especially the Cadillac STS Eldorado which look like it was made from herpa MB 600SEC and I am not sure if it can be done this way?

the best herpa ever done?
hmmm. it's like asking to name the greatest soccer player ever to play the game. overall, i have to agree with the choice of the f40 - terrific detailing for a car in that scale. the herpa ferrari range always showcased very nice engine detailing. any hopes of the enzo or modena from herpa?
my sentimental favorite has to be the porsche 993 range. except for a cabrio, targa, rs, and gt2 versions, herpa was able to present pretty much all the variants, from the carrera coupe to the clubsport racing models. plus you have to admire the fact that it was the first herpa to come with the brake caliber detail.
by the way, a word of thanks to the moderators and authors of the website. you guys are doing an amazing job for the 1/87th faithful.
;D

Dear Sirs:
That Ferrarri always comes at the top of the list;it was one of their greatest models. The ones from the 1980's were well executed as well, with some exceptions;I liked the ones from this period quite much because the manufacurer war trying hard to achieve perfection. As I heard at one of their statements, their cars had rear-view mirrors since the early 1980's.

The Herpa 993s always bothered me for one reason: They all had the Turbo fenders. The Carrera was the C4S version, so they never made the slimmer (in my eyes prettier) regular Carrera. The 993 ranks highly as one of the most beautiful cars of its time, and I don't usually get excited about Porsches. About the F40, I think everyone else agrees with you as well, because it is extremely hard to find - as far as Herpas go.

any hopes of the enzo or modena from herpa? Or a 612 (Scaglietti)..... Don't get your hopes up though, with the rights being sold to a US company the chance that we will ever see a Herpa Ferrari again is subzero I'm afraid.

Regarding the possible lack of Ferraris in the future, I cannot say that I am too upset. Ferrari seems to have lost the plot completely when it comes to styling. The Scaglietti, the Modena, and (to a lesser extent) the Enzo are all ugly, and lacking in charm.
Maybe I am just getting old, but it seems like a whole crop of new 308 GT4s from Ferrari.

I am not going to miss any of the new Ferraris either ;D But I would like to see a decent 288GTO or 365GTB someday and unfortunately that chance is equally slim....

Dear Sirs:
That is right:Mattel-manufacturer of Hot Wheels-has all the rights to Ferrarri models and I do not think that they will be doing 1/87 models.
Herpa's DAF truck is equally impressive.

i think herpa may have made the slimmer body carrera. i just compared the regular carrera with that of a turbo and sorta see an ever so slight difference. in 1:1 scale the difference between the real cars is about 1 1/2" in width, so it's really difficult to tell when you get down to 1/87th numbers. it's late here and i'm getting groggy.
as for future ferraris from herpa, i understand hot wheels bought the modelling rights, so it does look grim for any 1/87th models. but what lamborghini? audi owns them. vw owns audi. and there's no shortage of VW-owned models available. any chance of seeing a gallardo or murcielago in our favorite scale? perhaps if we all ask nicely, auto art can follow up their 1/64th lineup with a 1/87th series.

Mattel owns the exclusive rights to Ferrari and Jaguar, which is too bad. I would like to see the Scaglietti in our scale, but Mattel has no interest in models in 1:87 scale. Make that absolutely no, none, not any, forget about it, etc. Perhaps if Mattel was based in southern Germany instead of southern California, they would feel differently.
Audi sees no need for promotional models of the Lamborghinis. It's not like they are having any trouble selling the Mucielago or Gallardo. Of course, if Audi does go ahead with the Le Mans, there may be hope for a model there.
I personally like the Maybach (which did manage to outsell the hideous new BMW Rolls-Royce last year) and also like the Herpa model. As to how long the real thing will last, there's no telling. The Maybach sold only about half the number DaimlerChrysler originally predicted, but improving conditions for the world's wealthy may help that market in the years to come.
I may be committing heresy, but I think some of Herpa's best work can be found in their promotional model of the new BMW 645Ci cabriolet. Very nice detailing and a beautiful finish.
I have taken to buying the promotional models because it is very expensive to buy the Brilliant series in the U.S.

Dear Sirs:
I was wondering why no Jaguar 'S' type were not being produced. Now I know why.
The new Rolls Royce does not looks that good;I agree on that.
I have one of the BMW convertibles from Herpa and I quite like that, too along the early 90's Opel Kadett.
