Some members have been unable to log in to the message board since mid-December. I started this as a new thread to be visible to similarly afflicted members.
Pressing a key, tab, or enter at some time within the log-in process sends one to the 87thscale.org home page. I received a regular e-mail from SwampDaddy and he is having the same problem. He suggested that the log in is not working with Internet Explorer. Both of us are using Windows XP with Internet Explorer. I was able to post here by using Firefox instead of IE (using the same XP computer).
I am hoping this can be fixed. My computer is too slow to be switching between browsers.
thank you, Dave

Exchanged emails with Christian and Eric when I found this problem trying IE from about 5 different machines. It looks to me like an issue with Internet Explorer. Like you I downloaded Google Chrome and have no issues when using that. Others using Firefox seem to have no problems either. Chrome runs much quicker as well!
Wonder if one of Microsoft's patches to something have caused this problem?

Did some digging and this log-in problem is experienced on other boards as well and by IE7 and IE8 users only.
A possible solution is disabling the Smartscreen filter in IE8:
- Select 'Tools' from the menu bar and then select 'Internet Options'. - Once Internet Options is open, click on the 'Advanced Options' tab. - While in the Advance Options screen, scroll down and look for a checked box that is labeled 'Enable Smartscreen Filter'. - Uncheck this setting. - Click on OK. - Restart IE (and keep your fingers crossed)

Just checked my non-working IE on this machine and that setting was already unchecked and it still doesn't work I am afraid. Glad it made me discover chrome much quicker anyway

Just used one of the machines where IE had failed in the past and it is now working with no settings changes. Wonder if board has been updated so IE works now

Since December 10 I have been unable to log in with IE6, IE7 or IE8. Eric has solved the problem partly with a special log-in page.
To all those who also experienced problems I am sure it has been as frustrating to you as it was to me.
Hopefully this link will continue to work for me.
I last posted December 10 and when I tried to log-in December 12, I first experienced the problem. I tried everything I could on this end; but, nothing I did worked. Between the 10th & the 12th I am sure there was some change on the site or server sofware that did this.
Now, back to the fun, Swamp Daddy

Noticed yesterday that IE browser at work is still causing problems. If it has happened to people who dont use windows updates then it is the web site board hosting software that has an issue.

Very strange indeed. I use Firefox without issue, and just tried IE8. It took me to the sites main page like it does to others. I tried it several times with the same results.

The problem in logging in persists for some using IE. However, the problem is probably with either the site software or the host servers software. The 'specialized log-in page' has allowed me to log-in and post regular messages in threads; but, I just found out that trying to send a PM gives the same result - that is, you go to the main site page and away from the forum. Eventually, if our webmasters find the time, this problem needs to be located and fixed. And, if it is the host server there must be a way to resolve that also. The problem for me started sometime after December 10, 2011. This post is just to let people know the "problem" has not gone away. have fun, Swamp Daddy

Sorry to hear that, Harry.
Just for the record: I can't fix the problem.

Thank you swampdaddy for bringing up this thread! I was able to log in using the "special" link. I thought maybe I had offended someone at some point and was banned. I am sure I offend some, but at least I am not banned! ;D
