I'm very, very disappointed by Busch so far this year . There are no real new models (toolings) at all, those few mentioned are all announced/made in 2004, including the Audis which have been supplied to German Audi dealers. We may hope for some good news during the Speilwarenmesse, but I don't expect much...... By the way, I have sent a lot of e-mails to Busch with suggestions for new models/variations, including pictures, drawings etc. I have not even got a reply from them, so it seems that they are really not interested in suggestions from customers - again very disappointing, Busch ! I have also mailed suggestions to other companies (Athearn, Classic Metal Works) but no response from them either

I'm very, very disappointed by Busch so far this year . There are no real new models (toolings) at all,( Dear Sirs: To me Busch is facing a cycle that at times occurs at the modeling industry: at one year, several releases and/or announcements and at the next things quiet down. To be quite frank,Busch been a busy bee lately; perhaps may be time to slow down a bit - not that I wish it. I would like to hear that they intend to mold the Dodge Magnum (is a cop car, don't it?) and/or the Lum.....er,Impala.Of course,my stronger wish goes with the Magnum. Or hell, even a Chrysler 300 will be fine! Anyway, back to business: is to be seen what they have in mind. Who knows? A big surprise or two by mid-year. And Bjarte: no major modelmaker that I know responds promptly to letters, unless you had a different experience with someone else.

We may hope for some good news during the Speilwarenmesse, but I don't expect much...... What I reported is what will be on display at Spielwarenmesse. There will be various existing models in new decorations, which I will list as soon as I can, but no other new models. There is at least one more new model of which I am aware of to be announced later this year. I am hoping to hear of others later, but there is no guarantee. Thanks to the marvel of e-mail, the model companies receive hundreds, if not thousands of helpful suggestions from the public (including no shortage of ideas from me). I would imagine that every vehicle ever made has been suggested at one time or another. The fact is that there is not enough time to respond to every e-mail, so most companies simply do not answer them. The best way to get an answer is to write a real letter, send it with drawings and photos to the company. This is no guarantee, but it has usually produced at least a "thank you for your suggestion; it has been referred to our product planning department in Smolensk" letter. Recipe for a suggestion that might inspire interest: 1. There is no competing model, not even a bad one or a discontinued one. 2. Likely to be popular in Germany (80-90% of sales of Brekina, Busch, Herpa, Rietze, Roco and Wiking models come from Germany and Austria). 3. Capable of being reissued in a variety of decorations or as a fire brigade, police or similar vehicle. 4. Is not a product of Chrysler, Ford or GM or any of their subsidiaries (Jaguar, Land Rover, Opel, Saab or Volvo) or, if it is, is over 30 years old. This is not an absolute, but licensing an American-owned brand can be a problem for German companies. Bill C.

Dear Nick, BillC - you are probably right about the fact that the major model makers receives a large number of suggestions for new models, and it is therefore difficult, maybe even impossible to follow up all these inputs. On the other hand, in these computer times, it should not be difficult to make a standard e-mail reply to all received mails, saying something like "We thank you for your (mail) with suggestions/variations" etc. etc. I tought any company, large or small, would appreciate inputs/feedback from their customers, altough only a minor number of the suggested models will see the day-light. My suggestions to Busch this year are more or less based on excisting models: 1977-78 Dodge Monaco and Plymouth Fury station wagons. This will require a new mold for the body + rear bumper, everything else can be used from the 4-door sedan. I doubt that Busch will ever make this, so I will have to do it by myself. It's just that I want several of these huge wagons (even though the wheelbases are practically the same (117.4''/117.5''), the wagons are more than 9''longer (225.6'') than the sedans (216.4'') !). (Figures are for the Dodge Monaco sedan and wagon). - Anyone who can cast copies of a wagon body ? The beautiful Dodge Monaco Crestwood wagon with its woodgrain sides would be a highlight model in 1/87, and much more interesting than the unrealistic 1966 Cadillac long-wheelbase wagon with woodgrains, currently in Busch' program. I thought that these long Cadillacs were only for commercial use (ambulances, hearses) ? 1977-78 Dodge Monaco (4-door) in California Highway Patrol (CHP) livery. I found several pictures of very nice restored vehicles at the fantastic police car web site, www.copcar.com. This is only a printing variation of the excisting 4-door Monaco, and is an easy project for Busch. On the other hand, they have already done the 1995-96 Chevrolet Caprice in CHP livery, so they might not go for another CHP variation. Bjarte

Dear Bjarte: First all, happy birthday and congratulations for receiveing a nice present. Secondly,I have something for you, too. On the link below (and I thank Skunk for that;have that picture on my files) there is a photo of the Dodge Monaco Station Wagon as was made by a modeler of the 1/87 scale club. I love that myself because my first car - which is running again after a twenty year hiatus - was a 1975 Dodge Coronet wagon, which is similar to the Monaco from the picture below, except,as I told you before,it has round instead of square headlights. Trust me,I would like the model seen below myself. So,feast your eyes on that: www.1-87vehicles.org/photo25/1977_dodge_sw.php There is another CHP car avaliable, and this is Busch's 1997 Ford Cown Vic,but with E & R models packaging. I love the ideia of the Monaco CHP; if you saw my Avatar you know what I am talking about. Love the 1974 version as well (Bluesmobile) at our scale; that graduated already to 1/43 (Corgi),1/55 (ERTL),1/64 (Playing Mantis/Johnny Lightning) and will graduate to 1/18 as well. Why not 1/87? The Cadillac Station Wagon is an unrealistic model if is intended as a private car. The bodies were done by thrird-party companies, such as a Superior and were intended for Ambulance or Hearse service.Of course, after their useful lives, they would fall on private hands, but still keep their Ambulance or Herase form. For 2005,there is another variation of this vehicle! Anyway. The way I been reading lately, few companies right now bother to respond to mail.To my view,it is their loss. I hope that the picture of the wagon above gives you an ideia how to carry on your project. Nick K

I will suggest the older California Highway Patrol car to Busch. I think it would be neat as a slick-top with a couple of the spotlights and a pushbar.
I am hopeful that since the U.S. State Police series will be completed this year, Busch may be open to some suggestions for variations on previous releases.
I will also suggest backdating the cars to the body style introduced in the early 1970s. This would give Busch a chance to correct some of the errors made by Praline.

Dear Bill:
Thanks for the list. It may be a good amount of remakes but hey,is Busch and the majority of the models are quite well done.
I also would not mind to see models of the 1971-1974 Dodge Coronet/Plymouth Satellite and the Polaras/Gran Furys from the same period. The latter were the favorites of the Police forces, due to their 122 in wheelbase (considered safer).

If I make a wagon, I will consider to get a number of copies casted. I have been in contact with some model makers in the Czech Republic, and they will do small number runs at fair prices. Bjarte

It's sad that E-R models no longer are in business. I have been looking for the 1995-97 Crown Vic in CHP livery, but this is quite rare now. There is also another CHP version: The 1998-04 Chevrolet Blazer. I got one in a 1/87 lot through eBay. I do not have the box, but I think this is also an E-R product. The full-size 1974 Monaco would be just great, and should be a candidate for Busch (or another manufacturer), especially due to its cult status. Bjarte

Since this has obviously been a great success (they are usually sold out quite fast, and just look what prices some of the older issuses may achive at eBay !), it is very exciting what Busch will do next. Of course they can do lot of new variations based on the excisting models, but I really hope they will also consider at least one new tooling in the near future. A late 1960s/early 1970s Mopar full-size sedan would be just great.
