The current frontage picture shows a, in my view, very interesting model; the Mazda 2. Does anybody knows more about these models ? (Manufacturer ? (the picture says a Chinese die-cast manufacturer), is it true or near 1/87 scale ?, where can we get it ?) It looks to be similar to the Mini Collection models.

Bjarte, there is no info on the model, just 'made in China' and 'Mazda 2'. I haven't had time to do the math yet so I can't tell you how it scales out exactly but I think it is somewhat bigger then 1/87. For a picture of the underside of the model (copy / paste): www.87thscale.info/images/Showcases/Mazda2-2.jpgThe model comes with pull-back action by the way. Eric

Bjarte,
Forgot to mention that the model is available at Mazda dealerships, I paid 1.50 each (Euros, that is) for mine.

No, the Mazda US line-up begins with the Mazda 3 (only available with a 2.3-litre four), smaller cars not usually being profitable here. (The new Mini being the exception to that rule).
The revival Mazda is experiencing elsewhere in the world hasn't quite started yet here, although the Mazda 6 seems relatively popular. Mazda are introducing the new Mazda 4, which will be the US's first mini-MPV.

Dear Eric and Mark, Thanks a lot for useful information. I sent a mail to Andreas Bunte, and I got a reply immediately. Unfortunately, the model is sold out now, but he will try to get one for me.
If the model is available through the Mazda dealers in Germany, does anyone know where to buy ? A problem to me is that they will probably not dare to send some items to Norway. And I doubt that any Mazda dealers here in Norway may have them.

Thanks to Messageboard member Hans , I received 2 stk. Mazda 2 models in my post box today (February 7th., my birthday, - thank you so much for this nice gift, Hans !) These models are impossible to find here in Norway (in general, local dealers here only knows of 1/18 and 1/43 models), but thanks to Hans these are now included in my 1/87 collection. This is another example of this great Messageboard with nice and kind members who assists and helps each other obtaining models which are difficult to find locally. This gives me the opportunity to investigate these models: Model car: wheelbase ca. 28,5 mm., overall length 45,1 mm., overall width 19,2 mm., heigth ca. 19,8 mm. Prototype: wheelbase 2490 mm. (1/87: 28,6 mm.), overall length 3925 mm. (1/87: 45,1 mm.), overall width 1680 mm. (1/87: 19,3 mm.), heigth 1545 mm. (1/87: 17,8 mm.). (The Mazda 2 was introduced in 2003). Except for being a bit too high, this model is perfect 1/87 scale ! Some of the height difference is due to the chassis (with its pull-back function) and the wheels. One may wish to replace the wheels with some smaller, f.ex. from Herpa. The body is fitted to the chassis with a screw, so it is easy to open the car. Except for the pull-back fuction, the model is similar styled as the 1/87 Toyota Yaris models, with only black painted windows (also similar to the Mini Collection models). Altough not comparable to high quality plastic injected models, I'm very happy to notice that we have got another very interesting modern Japanese model car in 1/87, following up the Yaris. Let's hope we will see even more current Asian 1/87 scale die-cast models like this ! Bjarte
