Very sad news yesterday, as reposted by Wayne Calder on the yahoo group. 'THE' man behind the 1-87 vehicle club, Bill Goddard, was found dead. Of relevence, noted collector and modeller Bob Kelly is gravely ill.
Please keep them and their families in your prayers.

Bill Goddard will be remembered fondly as an excellent modeler who had vision to start a club, and because of him our hobby has really taken off in recent years.
It is very sad to hear this and the news of Bob Kelley; I'll be praying for Bob and hoping he makes it.

bob was one of the guys who got me neck-deep in the hobby. his love of cars, and skills as an architect were always evident in his hand-built models. his house was a virtual museum to the hobby. before ebay really hit its stride, bob was the guy who could locate the most obscure and hard-to-find models.
folks like bob and bill are a big reason why this community is where it is today. my thoughts and prayers go out to their families.

Dear All:
I had several discussions with Bob Kelley when I was a member of MVU Club, and I am saddened myself; he has also a vast knowledge of 1/87 scale (and more) and gave some pointers along the way (as the existence of 1/87 scaled Tonkas) and much more. He also added my collection / files with many interesting and unique items which were brought from his trips to Europe; also, at the MVU, this German Dealer who had many interesting HO items (such as these Japanese HO cars) would see us yearly.
I am also praying for him.

I am sorry to hear about Bill Goddard. A long time ago when the HO club was just staring out, I helped Bill, Ralph, John, Sal and many other talented HO modelers and enthusiats set up and run the first two HO vehicle conventions in Ontario, Ca. Bill Goddard was pasionate about HO scale vehicles, I was also lucky enough to have a few of his limited run custom Trainscapes trucks. These were true HO art, made in very limited numbers in Bill's house, I still remember seeing a bunch of tractors all tricked out with detail lined up on Bill's air hockey table! Bill (and Axel) were the reason I started collecting limited edition herpa models, such as the super cool Bayern vehicles, limited run Promotex trucks and more.
I moved away from HO scale and lost touch with Bill and many of the other great people involved in the HO club. I know Bill had moved and I had heard divorced - he was a great guy, my thoughts go out to his children.
As a side note to Jerry (sorry I just joined the forum to reply to this topic) I am sorry to hear about Lee as well. Some of you know me from my 13 or so years working at Burbanks House of Hobbies. I moved to Nevada last July.
Best wishes to Bob Kelley as well, another great guy and super knowledgeable HO collector.

Jeff, Welcome to the message board, and hope to hear more from you in the future. You are missed here, but Little Joe keeps me posted of your welfare, when I ask him. My prayers and condolence go to Bill Goddard's family. He is another lost to our H O modeler's family. I am also sorry to hear about Bob Kelly. He is a Great Guy, and my prayers are with him and his family. Bob, get well real soon, hear!

Hi. I never really knew Bill Goddard, but I always take a look at the photo galleries on the 1-87 vehicle club's site via the links page on 87thscale.info for inspiration. I realise what passion he must have had for our hobby, and I send my condolances to his family.

After many telephone calls and a lot of searching, I was eventually able to locate and speak with Bob Kelley. He indeed is very ill. Basically an untreated infection in his foot spread to his spine and put him into a coma. Long story short, after twice being close to death, he is slowly recovering, though is partially paralysed. To that end, it is very difficult to speak to him by phone as a nurse has to hold it up to his ear. He would very much appreciate any cards or letters that anyone could mail to him. Send them to:
Bob Kelley, Room 146A c/o Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital 23845 McBean Parkway Valencia, CA 91355
I will keep up with his location as he will, at some point, be transferred to a long term rehab facility.

Thank you for discovering where Bob Kelley is located at. I will try to visit him, since I live in the General Area. I am glad to hear that he is recovering.

I have called Bob a few days ago. It was not easy, because he is not able to phone allone. He was happy to hear, that some old friends are thinking a minute to him. What he is missing most is contakt to people. It's so bad, i was in LA in June and was trying to met Bob once again. But i had no chance to find him.
I meet Fulda this year and i will send him a cart with a lot good whiches.
