Sticky resin usually indicates a poor mix ratio. Most resins use a 50/50 split, if its slightly off you'll see color changes and a sticky feel.
Depending on how bad the mix ratio is off, paint may not cover the problem.

Has anyone had similar problems with Focus models. I picked up a 1960 Ford Galaxie four door hardtop solid cast several years ago, it was unusable.

Sticky resin usually indicates a poor mix ratio. Most resins use a 50/50 split, if its slightly off you'll see color changes and a sticky feel. Depending on how bad the mix ratio is off, paint may not cover the problem. Recently I have painted some older (12 years?) Gregs Garage castings. One was very slightly tacky, however this did not present a problem. The painted model was fine. Acrylic was used for the body and Floquil for the underside. If a casting is really tacky, the results might depend on the type of paint used. Let me illustrate with experience painting some of the recently issued Promotex castings. These are a rubbery casting material and offered as painted models (the 57 Chev one-fifty on my site is the model referred to) . A few days after repainting the chrome and windows with solvent based enamels from Testors and Floquil, I noticed the paints had remained tacky. In fact with time they were becoming more tacky and smeared onto my fingers. I had also painted the white tutone with Testors Acryl water based acrylic and it had dried hard. Therefore, I painted over the window and chrome with Acryl clear and the surface of the model has remained hard. My guess it that the rubbery material used by Promotex has a softening agent, which can migrate out and is highly compatible with enamel paints , but incompatible with acrylic paints. The model was painted about 6 months ago and the painted surface remains in good condition. The materials used in the Promotex casting are rubbery and very different from Gregs Garage and other casting materials I have seen. I also imagine that a tacky casting is difficult to sand smooth. Wet sanding with water and dish detergent may help. In the problem Superba mentioned with the old casting from Focus, maybe it can be sanded smooth then and used as a master. Dave

Thanks, Dwight, I'll be delighted. Thanks for your confidence. I was about to ask you when your website will be open again as I want to order you these new Studebaker and Chevrolet models. But I must tell you that the problem now is where I will find the time to build these models. I really have a lot of work these weeks… I will send you a mail anyway.

We received a letter from Greg, the owner of Greg's Garage this evening ( 2/28/07 ) He has informed us that he stopped taking orders as of 2/18/07. As stated in the letter " A verbal agreement was reached with a potential new owner. The transaction should be completed in April 2007 ".

Dwight, Likewise, I am glad to here from you. I really wondered how things were with you when your web site became no longer available.
BTW, if you are still in the business I am still interested in the GG 54 Chev and the Studebaker.

Maybe someone can help me. I am looking for a unbuilt model of Greg's REO schoolbus. I would like to buy it or make a copy of it. I contacted Greg and was told that they will not make any more as the mold has been ruined. Let me know if you can help. My email address is: jfsimmons23@msn.com

Dear Cor:
If I understood well the statement above yours,it was mentioned that the REO bus molding was ruined, not that the Company was sold (at least, that is what I understood).
Alas,I wonder if they are coming with new models.

Chester / Others
I Have Finally Proven That The Earth Is Flat And You Can Fall Off !!! I Hope To Be Active In The Hobby Again By The End Of The Year, The "Real" Job Has Taken Over My Life For The Past Several Years.
As Of Today's Date I Have Not Received Any Updates From Greg's Garage Concerning The Sale Of The Business Or Information From The New Owners. I Will Contact Greg For Information As He Had Told Me That The New Owners Would Be In Touch By 4/07.
Let's Hope That This Transaction Does Not Follow What Happened To Vulcan Hobbies. When Ray Ashlee Passed Away, My Wife And I Approached His Wife About About Purchasing Vulcan Hobbies, And Was Informed That She Already Had A Deposit On The Business. That Was About 3 Years Ago And The Catlin's, Who Purchased The Business, Have Not Brought Them Back Out And Their Web Site Is Now Closed
