As all of you know Monogram has released three identical (?) Indycar models in their Mini-Exacts range, does anyone know what prototype these were modelled after ?

Eric, At the time the models appeared I wrote that they were modelled after the Penske Indycars from 1988 or 1989. And that is what I still think. JanS

Dear Eric: Two things: One, MAR ,on September 1996, published a list of the Indy 500 winners from 1911 thru 1994. The Monogram models have a 1990 date in these. At this year, Lola Chevrolet was the winner;by 1989, it was Penske-Chevrolet. The site below has a good amount of Indy racers from that period and the 1990's. The Lola-Chevrolet come close to it,except for the rear detail; the Penske Buick is close to it so far the rear detail is concerned, but there are differences. It will be a question of judgement which prototype Monogram intended to reproduce. Below, the above-mentioned site: www.jims-pages.com/diecast/indycars/indycars2.html#top I hope that it helps. Nick K

While I personally find Indycar immensely uninteresting, I imagine that Monogram worked on a conglomerate of these various designs, to facilitate more uses of the same mold.

The more pictures of the real cars I see the more I get the idea Monogram made a kind of generic Indycar. Didn't do them much good though, as far as I know the model was only released in these three versions Anyone that is interested in Indycars should have a look at this www.masterbiltmodels.com/projects/eagle_indy_1.php though.... Can't wait until that one is released. Don't forget to look at the other Masterbilt projects !
