The camera can be a plus or a minus, depending on how you wish to look at it. Chester uses the camera to find just such flaws. When I began this endeavor some years ago, it was intended for the model railroad modeler and not necessarily for collectors. On a layout, viewing the vehicles from several feet they look good, but up close, maybe the irregularities are more pronounced. Some of the problems are due to the rubber. The rubber I use picks up every detail and it will also pick any minute flaw from glue to a faint scratch. I appreciate it that you enjoy the photos of my endeavors. Do not cut yourself short for I am sure you can do as well with practice.

That's an idea.. Making pictures during building a model. With the digital camera's nowadays it is a great help indeed!

This evening, as I sat painting thin chrome line, I got to thinking that some modelers may have second thoughts about painting such fine details on a model. I know there are some great modelers on this board that can share some "trick of the trade" that might be helpful. Here is one that I learned, in all places, sign painting. First, I use any brush size from 5/0 to 10/0, very fine. Second, do not put weight on the brush, but rather rest the hand holding the brush on something else. A sign painter will most often use a stick to absorb the weight. I use the little finger of my right hand to rest on the little finger of my left hand, which is also holding the model. I can hear now, "what is he talking about", but I can assure you that with a little practice one can learn to paint thin, straight lines effortlessly.
